Learning @ Lovejoy8th Annual Conference
Providing Excellence in Professional Development
Welcome to the 8th Annual Learning @ Lovejoy professional development experience. Our conference team has worked diligently to provide you with exceptional learning and col-laborative opportunities.
Our national conference week will open with Robert J. Marzano, PhD, cofounder and CEO of Marzano Research Laboratory in Colorado. Drawing from his book, The Art and Science of Teaching, Dr. Marzano presents a model for ensuring quality teaching that balances the necessity of research-based data with the equally vital need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of individual students.
The remainder of the national conference week will feature:
• Ian Jukes, Director of the InfoSavvy Group, will provide a comprehensive look at how the pervasive nature of the digital culture has and continues to change the brains of our students.
• Based on the concept from Switch, coauthored by Learning @ Lovejoy 2013 presenter, Chip Heath, Lovejoy administrators identified teachers that have demonstrated suc-cessful efforts that are worth emulating. These efforts are called Bright Spots. Lovejoy ISD Bright Spot presenters will share the best practices and effective strategies that are happening in the classrooms at Lovejoy ISD.
• Rick Wormeli, one of the first nationally Board Certified teachers in America, will share a provocative and candid look at what grades really mean, as well as exploring partici-pants’ core beliefs about teaching and learning.
Thank you for making Learning @ Lovejoy part of your summer professional development plans. We hope that your conference experiences will be empowering and will serve as a catalyst for enhancements used in the process of educating your students. Please let us know if there is anything that we may do to assist you during the conference. On behalf of Lovejoy ISD, we look forward to sharing this journey with you as we believe that they are all our kids.
Dennis MuizersDeputy Superintendent, Lovejoy ISD
Special Thanks to the Lovejoy ISD school board and administrators for the vision and commitment to make Learning @ Lovejoy a reality for not only teachers of LISD, but educators across the state. Together we can make a difference because.....they are all our kids.

Learning @ Lovejoy 2014National Conference Team
Based on the concept from Switch, co-authored by Learning @ Lovejoy 2013 presenter, Chip Heath, Lovejoy administrators identified teachers that have demonstrated successful efforts that are worth emulating. These efforts are called “Bright Spots.” The administrators contacted the teachers or teams of teachers and identified strategies and ideas that they wanted them to share with others in a “Bright Spot” session. We are excited to continue this feature during Learning @ Lovejoy 2014 and are looking forward to the sharing of best practices and effective strategies that are happening in the classrooms at Lovejoy ISD.
