Term 5 Home Learning Pack
Weeks 1 and 2Year 6
Dear parent/careerWe have put together this file to support your child’s learning during the period of time in which we may not be in school.
This document has been created so your child can work independently and with few resources - hopefully, it can be used anywhere! We appreciate the food tasks may require particular ingredients which, at the moment, are not easily accessible. Please feel free to adapt these or simply ask your child to support preparing a meal; our main aims with Food Technology sessions are to emphasise preparation, timing, hygiene and evaluation projects.
We understand that individual schedules may make this challenging; however, we hope this document will help during your child’s ‘learning time’, whenever that may be.
Please get in touch via dojo if you have any questions.

Can you describe what you’ve just seen in one word?
Electricity - Do not recreateThis simple motor is made from twisted copper wire balanced on a battery on top of strong magnets. Electric motors use the forces produced by magnetic fields to produce a turning motion. If you put a length of wire in a magnetic field and pass a current through it (such as from a battery), the wire will move.
Small direct current motors like this one may be used in hand-held tools and toys.
Where could simple motors like this might be used?
What could you change to make the motor turn more quickly?
You can make the wire coil turn faster if there is more electric current.
How to change a circuit.

Electricity can flow through the components in a complete electrical circuit.A circuit always needs a power source, such as a battery, with wires connected to both the positive (+) and negative (-) ends. A battery is made from a collection of cells connected together.A circuit can also contain other electrical components, such as bulbs, buzzers or motors, which allow electricity to pass through.Electricity will only travel around a circuit that is complete. That means it has no gaps. You can use a switch in a circuit to create a gap in a circuit. This can be used to switch it on and off. When a switch is open (off), there is a gap in the circuit. Electricity cannot travel around the circuit. When a switch is closed (on), it makes the circuit complete. Electricity can travel around the circuit.
Art TaskHow our sessions will link to the National Curriculum:
1. to create sketch books to record observations and use them to review and revisit ideas
2. improve mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials
3. learn about great artists, architects and designers in history.
Andy Warhol You might know Andy Warhol simply as a painter of Campbell’s Soup cans or the artist who made colorful Marilyn Monroe prints.
Looking back, his art probably feels more retro than revolutionary—after all, we’re used to seeing “art” every day which is much weirder than these familiar pop art images. But Andy Warhol wasn’t just another pop art artist; he’s actually one of the reasons that art is so diverse today.
Born in the 1920’s, Andy Warhol grew up somewhat isolated from other children due to some persistent health problems. He spent a lot of time drawing, studied art in college, and eventually entered the world of commercial illustration in New York.
He was good at it too, creating magazine ads with a particular inky style that was very popular for a time.
Getting his art into the galleries, however, wasn’t so easy. Back then there was a clear line between fine art and commercial art, and Warhol had become a well-known commercial illustrator.
But Andy Warhol decided to use that to his advantage. He began to experiment with the stuff of commercialism itself—logos, trademarks, icons—things that had no “fine art” qualities at all.
His break out paintings were the (now famous) series of Campbell’s Soup cans. They immediately became popular with the public and catapulted Warhol’s career.
Draw an item in the house in the style of Andy Warhol.
Use bright, bold colours. Outline in black.

When drawing circuit diagrams, rather than drawing detailed components, we use simple symbols to represent the different components.

Salvador Dali Dali claimed (like most surrealists) that his images were “dream sequences” or inspired by his subconscious. Surrealism was a popular movement in the mid-1900s that attempted to create art which was “truer” than life. They did this by avoiding logic and reason, which were considered hindrances to creativity. It’s an idea which is still somewhat believed today. Salvador Dali’s artwork ranged from just a little bit strange to overpoweringly absurd, but his gift was in using just enough realism in his work so that viewers would believe despite the absurdity of the situation.
Draw your own dream sequence in the style of Dali; the weirder the better!
