Learning Task:

Farm animal barrier game.

Description:

This activity is done between two children, one of which has pictures of farm animals with their names. The second child has the same pictures of farm animal, but without their names.

The first child read the name of an animal, and asks second child to pass him the picture of the animal that match with name. Then second child ask first one if the picture is right or not.

Background Information:

Children need to know how to match the animals with their names, so from this activity they learn how to match things with their name in their daily life. They need to know the names of things around them which enrich their vocabulary.

This activity accommodating kenestetic intelligences as children match between the picture and it’s name.

This activity provides social connection between the two parties of it.

Child has to have reading skills.

Has matching skills between things.

Has background about farm animals.

Learning Theory & Instructional Strategy:

o This activity is based upon a cognitive approach where children make links with different experiences (seeing, listening, matching and reading).

o This activity responds to children’s way of learning through hiding pictures they are asking for.

o The activity prepares children for social connection with others.

Introduction of the Learning Task:

Show two children the location of activity in the shelf.

Put barrier between them to not allow them to see the cards that each of them has.

Tell the first child to take the cards with

it’s name, and second child to take the cards without their names.

Help the first child to read the name of animal like rabbit and help him to ask second child to pass him the picture, so help him to say like, "Please pass me the card with the picture of a rabbit".

Help second child to choose the right picture, and to say "This is the card with the picture of a rabbit.”For example.

Tell the first child to not say wrong if the answer is wrong, but say try again.

Tell the first student to place on his side of the barrier as a record of the

response made by the second child.

Show the children how to tidy up the activity.

Preparation:

Search for pictures of farm animals, and their names.

Print them out.

Cut them, and stick them in hard papers.

Laminate the cards.

Tray.

Plastic bag.

Box.

Extension Activities:

Extend the difficulty level of the game by adding more cards of farm animals or have additional

sets of cards with different kinds of animals.

Enrichment Activities:

Extending the pictures to include picture of the food that the farm animals eat.

Assessment Techniques: Teacher observes children while they are doing this activity.The teacher makes anecdotal notes about:Language: vocabulary: name of farm animals.Matching skills.Also review the final set of cards that the first student has lined up in pairs with the children to see if there are any mis-placed cards. If there is one in the incorrect place there will be more.

Evaluation Rubric: Does not use names of

farm animals; may not have expressive vocabulary to do so.
