Executive Summary

All “New Hire” Drivers complete Leavitt’s Orientation & On-The-Job-Training (OJT) Program prior to being released for solo tractor-trailer operation. Leavitt’s initial orientation and training programs are designed to take both experienced (2 plus years’ experience) and entry level (less than 2 years’ experience) drivers to a competence level that will permit them to operate tractor-trailer units in support general flatbed freight to include over length up to eighty (80) feet in length. Training related to product length exceeding 80-feet will be handled In-Accordance-With (IAW) Leavitt’s “Advanced Skills” training process.

New Hire training for both experienced and entry level drivers will be documented

using Leavitt’s Flatbed Training Sheet, Orientation Record & OJT Training Record

(Attachments 1, 2, & 3)

Experienced drivers with 2 plus years’ experience will be released for solo operation on a case-by-case basis once they demonstrate sufficient skills

The trucking industry has been suffering from a shortage of drivers for a number of years . Senior drivers are leaving the industry at an increasing rate, and the availability of experienced replacement drivers diminishes as time goes on. The only way to offset this ratio is to bring in entry-level drivers , despite their lack of experience and knowledge. Entry-Level drivers will not be able to get the experience they need unless they have the proper education and training to drive a large commercial vehicle safely.

Leavitt's Freight Service has become a Premium Service Provider by employing successful and knowledgeable people to do the job as a team. When we bring entry-level drivers to our team, we immerse them into a training system that was built by veteran drivers with experience from across the trucking industry.

Utilizing outside sources such as (1) Great West Casualty Company (GWCC) Value Driven Driving course, (2) Amer ican Transpor tat ion Research Ins t i tu te (ATRI) Large Truck Crash Causation Study & (3) Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) Skill Standards for Professional Solo Tractor-Trailer Drivers combined with 60-years of industry experience, Leavitt's has put together a Dr iver Finishing Program (DFP) that will provide the entry-level driver the sk i l ls for a safe and successful career.

Driver Finishing Program (DFP) Curriculum Overview

Leavitt’s Driver Finishing Program is 8-weeks in duration designed specifically for the needs of the entry level driver graduating from an accredited Truck Driving School. With the specialized nature of our business of transporting over-length loads, a unique task-orientated approach was developed to allow the trainee to advance at a reasonable pace under the overs ight of top -notch t ra iners.

Fol lowing the f i rst week of class room & lab instruction, the trainee wil l be matched up with In-Truck Trainers for the fol lowing 7 -weeks of which they wil l
