Structuring a Presentation

Preparation: Structure
• Beginning– Introduction– Aims and Objectives/Overview– Background (if necessary)
• Middle– Present material in sections– Summarise at end of each section
• End– Summarise main points/themes– Draw main conclusions and way forward– Leave time for questions if appropriate
Presentation: Catching the audience attention.• Appearance
– Dress– Non-verbals
• Attention grabbing opening– Greeting– A quote– A visual aid
• Paralinguistics– tone of voice, pace, loudness
