• We have to remove connotation of words that have slipped in to the Punjabi vernacular.

• There is a difference between Punjabi and Gurumukhi.

From One

came the sound Ong

which formed many.

ਇਕ = One = = 1

ਗੁਿਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਰਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਰਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥The Guru has given me this one understanding: there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||6||

ਏਕਾ ਮਾਈ ਜੁਗਰਤ ਰਿਆਈ ਰਤਰਨ ਚੇਲੇ ਪਿਿਾਣੁ ॥ ਇਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਿੀ ਇਕੁ ਭੰਡਾਿੀ ਇਕੁ ਲਾਏ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥The One Divine Mother conceived and gave birth to the three deities. One, the Creator of the World; One, the Sustainer; and One, the Destroyer.

ਕਰਿ = Creation

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਿੇਖੈ ਰਸਿਜਣਿਾਿੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਾਿ ॥

Having created the creation, the Creator Lord watches over it.

O Nanak, True is the Creation of the True Lord

ਕੀਤਾ ਪਸਾਉ ਏਕੋ ਕਿਾਉ ॥ You created the vast expanse of the Universe with One Word!

Ong

• Ong is Namm also called Naad.

• It has no shape color or form.

Everything was made from the

Shabad

• This is not “Shabad” as the way

we commonly use it.

• This Shabad is the Sound that

made the Creation.

• Through the practice of Simran

you will hear this Sound.

ਓਅੰ = Shabad = Namm = Naad = Ong

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਬਰਿਮਾ ਉਤਪਰਤ ॥ From Ongkaar, the One Universal Creator God, Brahma

was created.

ਓਅੰਕਾਿੁ ਕੀਆ ਰਜਰਨ ਰਚਰਤ ॥ He kept Ongkaar in his consciousness.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੈਲ ਜੁਗ ਭਏ ॥ From Ongkaar, the mountains and the ages were created.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਬੇਦ ਰਨਿਮਏ ॥ Ongkaar created the Vedas.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਬਰਦ ਉਧਿੇ ॥ Ongkaar saves the world through the Shabad.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਗੁਿਮੁਰਖ ਤਿੇ ॥ Ongkaar saves the Gurmukhs.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਿਰਿ ਿਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਸ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਿੈਗੋ ॥ The One and Only Creator of the Universe is All-pervading

everywhere. All shall once again merge into the One.

ਏਕੋ ਿੂਪੁ ਏਕੋ ਬਿੁ ਿੰਗੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਤੁ ਬਚਰਨ ਚਲਾਿੈਗੋ ॥੪॥ His One Form has one, and many colors; He leads all according to His

One Word. ||4||

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਧੁਰਨ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਿਾਗੁ ਅਲਾਪੈ ॥ Ongkar is one sound it is one rag and alap.

ਰਬਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਆਚਾਿੁ ਨ ਰਕਨ ਿੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ Without the Shabad, no one

achieves a lifestyle of good conduct.

ਗੁਿਮੁਰਖ ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਰਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥ The Gurmukh through Ongkar is

absorbed in to Truth. ||16|

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਰਸਰਸਰਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥ Ongkar created the entire Universe.

ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤਮਾਸਾ ਤੇਿੀ ਿਰਡਆਈ ॥ All the plays and dramas are to Your

glory and greatness.
