Due to their nature, these areas are often constantly lit even though not always in use. Clever use of simple lighting controls, can further reduce energy consumption using integral microwave sensors programmed to reduce the lux level and wattage of the luminaire, to operate at a low light level when unoccupied.

This allows energy to be saved without reducing the communal area to darkness, providing a safe lit environment for users.

Lighting Controls

Today’s designers need to consider energy efficient luminaires combined with lighting controls to ensure areas are only being lit when in use.

Lighting should provide a stimulating yet comfortable environment for inhabitants to work in, but be flexible to accommodate the natural light available.

Navigation House, the head offices for Wakefield & District Housing, have just completed a lighting refurbishment at their Castleford site. Significant savings have been made by replacing the existing T5 fluorescent luminaires with energy saving LED

With the project completed, CO2 omissions have been reduced by over 22 tonnes each year and energy savings have been calculated at over £6,000 per annum. with additional savings gained from not having to replace failed fluorescent lamps.

Luceco, part of Nexus Industries, provided Dubai Properties with a lighting solution. Offering a 60% energy saving compared with conventional fluorescent fittings, Carbon LED downlight luminaires were utilised, providing glare free lighting to enhance the overall environment.

Existing fluorescent 2X26W downlights were replaced with 18W LED Carbon downlight luminaires, easily achieving the required lux levels. Offering over 35,000 hours of operation, this maintenance free luminaire solved difficult re-lamping issues caused by the high ceiling.
