Target

The objective of immigrant education is to provide people moving to Finland with opportunities to function as equal members of Finnish society and guarantee immigrants the same educational opportunities as other citizens.

With maintaining own mother tongue,

Finnish as a second language confirms pupils multicultural identity and builds base to functional bilingualism.

Instruction preparing for basic education (preparatory

class)• For preschool children (6 year old) and pupils

in 1st-9th class (compulsory education)• For pupil whose mother tongue is other than

Finnish, Swedish or Sami language • Administration of education in Vaasa decides

how learning groups are composed (max. 10 pupils)

• 6–10 year old at minimum 900 h (5 h / schoolday) and for older at minimum 1000 h (5-6 h/ schoolday)

• Studying F2 and all other lessons than pupil in same age exept other languages and religion

– State pays expenses afterwards to organiser of schooling
