May 2 was a day that senior ath-
letes PJ Heath, Buddy Byers, Briar
Herd, Ashley Jaggers and Cameron Pike
will always remember. All five athletes
signed scholarships to play for a college.
Jaggers signed with Morris Col-
lege in Sumter. She plans to play either
power forward or center. “It felt good
to sign because I’m taking my talents
to the next level,” Jaggers said. When
asked why she wants to attend Mor-
ris College, she said, “My brother went
there; I wanted to keep it in the family.”
“I was pretty excited about signing “I
really like the campus and the golf coach
is cool,” stated Herd. Herd signed with
Spartanburg Methodist College to play
golf in the fall. Herd has been playing golf
all four years of high school and is glad
he’s moving up another level in his golf
career.
Heath plans to attend Southern
Union in Alabama to play basketball.
“I’m kind of nervous because it’s so
far,” stated Heath. “I’m going to miss my
family and friends because they’re the
people I’m with all the time,” said Heath.
In college he’ll play small forward.
“I like those positions because you
get the ball a lot,” said Heath. “I feel good
about signing because it showed how hard
you worked and how successful you’ve
been.”
Byers signed to the Georgia
military academy to play football.
“It was a great moment,” Byers stated.
Even though he played safety in high
school, he’ll be playing corner in col-
lege. He chose to go to Georgia Military
because of the program.
“Their programs are great, and the
military side of it will give me the disci-
pline I need,” Byers stated.
Byers plans to attend Georgia Mili-
tary for a year and a half then transfer to a
D1 school in the spring.
Senior Buddy Byers signed to Georgia Military.
Senior Ashley Jaggers signed with Morris College in Sumter.
Senior Briar Herd signed with Spartanburg Methodist.
Senior PJ Heath signed with Southern Union in Alabama.
Senior Cameron Pike signed to Coker College in Hartsville.
