Lehi City Historical Archives 2013 Synopsis of the great things of the Archives January 2013 Moved the books and the Lehi City crews fixed the broken bookcases for us. Set the goal of 2,013 photographs and histories in 2013. We met this goal early in December. When we set this goal we did not think we could do it, but it came about. We typed up the tour stories of Carl Mellor. He donated his notes and stories to the Archives. Started compiling the Original Pioneer Cemetery burials. We have a listing of nearly 50 people who were buried in the cemetery. The Friends of the Archives was formed and changed to the Lehi City Historical Archives Board. Initially three people joined the Board. The People’s Co Op information was greatly increased by the work of Lynette Harris. Her particular interest expanded our files on the Peoples Coop. This was the 200th birthday of Porter Rockwell. The first six months of 2013 included BYU classes coming to visit the archives and also other writers. Our collection of information was greatly increased in 2013 by donations and research by the Archives. Councilwoman JoAnn Brown collection was donated to the Archives. This was a tremendous collection of photographs, documents dealing with Lehi City History and her service in both the County and the State. JoAnn was the first women city council member in Lehi. Judy Hansen donated a large collection of photographs dealing with the tearing down of the old Lehi Hospital. Received a collection of Sego Lily Elementary scrapbooks from Carl Mellor. This is a great collection of memorabilia. January started our year of the Eagle Scout projects with 3 new

January 2013 Moved the books and the Lehi City crews fixed the broken

bookcases for us. Set the goal of 2,013 photographs and histories in 2013. We met

We typed up the tour stories of Carl Mellor. He donated his notesand stories to the Archives.

Started compiling the Original Pioneer Cemetery burials. We have alisting of nearly 50 people who were buried in the cemetery.

The Friends of the Archives was formed and changed to the LehiCity Historical Archives Board. Initially three people joined theBoard.

Judy Hansen donated a large collection of photographs dealing withthe tearing down of the old Lehi Hospital.

Received a collection of Sego Lily Elementary scrapbooks from CarlMellor. This is a great collection of memorabilia.

January started our year of the Eagle Scout projects with 3 new

starts this month. We started advertising projects and by the yearsend we had fifteen Eagle Projects completed. We have a new mapand plan box, photographs of parts of the cemetery, photographdocumentation books of the Transportation Projects of Lehi, church,school and parks, Thanksgiving Point, Outlets at Traverse Mountain,American Fork Canyon, Hutchings Museum, Businesses of Lehi, andtrivia listing from the Lehi Yearbooks. These young men have mademajor contributions to the Archives.

February 2013 The year started out with 8,000 items in our basic file. On February

4, 2013 we hit 9,000 items. In December 2013 we passed the15,000 mark. We almost doubled the information we had in 2013.

Started the Almanac Pages on the Lehi Web Page. We added thelisting of Miss Lehis to this page.

John Haws donated the Messersmith collection of histories andphotographs to the Archives.

Councilmember Michael Southwick got a microfiche reader donatedto the Archives.

We received a collection of Biographies from the Daughters of theUtah Pioneers.

In February we expanded with a donation of photographs from theBroadbent collection and other photographs within the City. Wereceived a collection of photographs of Porter Rockwell, and acollection of other Lehi sites. Judy Hansen donated photographs ofPykettes and the Gaisford printing shops.

The Lehi Library and also Lehi High School donated the collectionof Lehi High School yearbooks. They were documented andcataloged and added to the collection

The Lehi Library also donated some other old books and twobookcases to the Archives.

March 2013 The work in March centered around the new park going in on the site

of the Sulphur Springs encampment. We did research on all of theparticipants at that site. Met with the Lehi Historical PreservationCommission and the Lehi Parks Department on this park. There wasstories and histories written on the settlement at Sulphur Springs,biography references to the event and other historical happenings.The Commission will continue to work to make this happen.

Received a large donation of Library of Congress photographs ofthe Jordan River Bridge.

Received a donation of Julian Mercer of his writings for the DailyHerald and his perceptions of the history of Lehi. There wereoriginal photographs and other items.

John Haws donated two original stock documents from the PeoplesSugar Company. (Stock before Utah­Idaho Sugar). Lynette Harrisframed them and they are on the wall at the Archives.

Received documents, pamphlets, newspaper clippings about theNauvoo Women Statutes being produced in Lehi.

The Board met and emphasised access to the Public. This still is aproblem and needs to be addressed.

We cataloged and sorted the Utah Historical Quarterlys. We listedall of the articles and placed them in the category files for researchbasis. Since this initial group, we have received significant donatedcollections from Woneva Meyers and from Connie Nielson.

We received a donation of a collection of photographs, stories,histories from the Kirkham family of Idaho Falls. The father was fromLehi originally but is now deceased. It includes a collection ofhundreds of photographs of his service in World War II.

April 2013 John Haws donated 11 volumes of Heart Throbs of the West. This is

an early Daughters of the Utah Pioneer books. He also donated thebook “When the White House Comes to Zion”,

Russell Felt donated copies of the 3 books of the Diaries of IsaacFox.

The Archives received a valuable donation from Sondra Smith.There was a Graduation Exercise program form the CongregationSchool in Lehi from 1905. There was 1914­1915 Lehi High SchoolYearbook. This was a yearbook we only had a photocopy of. Therewas a Literary Guild magazine of Earl Holmstead from January 1931.There were three really old negatives. There was a tribute to SilasTerry, the class president who died while in High School. There wasa photograph of Hannah Harrison. There were two old scripts ofplays from the High School­College Chums and Snowbound. Therewas Earl Holmstead’s acceptance into the Gamma Phi Sorority at theUniversity of Utah. There was an old photograph of a early baseballpark in Lehi. Article on Louis Robinson. There was also a viewingsigning book at the death of Earl Holmstead and an early work timebook. These are all great artifacts of history and a valuablecollection.

On April 22, the Archives received the largest donation to date. GaryLewis donated his whole collection of memorabilia of the LehiRoundup Rodeo and the Civic Improvement Association. Thiscollection is the finest collection of such history around. Garydonated his collection of Rodeo Programs going back beyond theCivic Improvement Association Programs to the Blackhawk Rodeoand programs. He has a collection of Rodeo ribbons used by theCivic Improvement Association. He also donated a collection ofRodeo Posters and a Poster of all the tickets through the ages. Italso includes photographs of all the specialty acts of the rodea andRodeo t shirts and hats. Mayor Wilson and the CIA have committedto build a case for the collection. This is a major collection to theArchives and a fitting tribute to the Civic Improvement Association.

Received a donation of scrapbook items of Donna Anderson tomake into a collector picture history book. This is a new process weare looking to try at the Archives. We are starting with the LehiRoundup Rodeo and will prepare a picture album with photographsand sell it for a limited edition to only those who pay for it ahead. We

will be preparing a draft of this in the next few months. Received a donation of 1933 Lehi Free Press talking about the

Sugar Days Rodeo and an article by 93 year old Stan Clark talkingabout the first rodeo. These are some great additions to our Rodeocollection.

Researched the John Austin and the Parley Austin Cabin. Obtainedphotographs of the deeds for the property for John Austin originaldeed and the deed to transfer the property from John Austin to hisson Parley. Obtained 46 photographs of the Austin Family.Obtained some 11 photographs of the cabin in its original state.

Carl Mellor donated a piece of cable of the original telegraph Line. Itis a three foot piece with insulators. Carl instructed me on the historyof the telegraph line in Lehi. My write­up of his education is locatedin the Archive files under the Lehi City web Page. It will hang in theLehi Archives as a tribute to the man who knows more about LehiHistory than any other man. The City Crews have hung the wire in theArchives. Carl Mellor also donated a history of Canute Peterson.

Evans Chilton and a historical book on Kate Fowler Wyneva Meyers donated three wonderful photographs of the old

Cedar Fort Grocery store and a disc with a historical document (500)pages history of Cedar Valley School. The Cedar Forts haverecently been increased by several other donations. A collection ofCedar Fort newspaper articles have been added to the Cedar Fortfiles. Four new Cedar Fort files were added.

Judy Hansen of the Friends of the Archives donated a History ofTooele County by the DUP, a State Comparison of City’s Crime from1994, an article on the history of the Mormon Battalion. Rhea Lewisof the Friends of the Archives brought some pictures of thedestruction of the Lehi High School, the back of Laney’s Store theday before it burned down, some pictures of the Civic ImprovementAssociation and the Mt. Timpanogos special edition magazine inconnection with the dedication. John Haws donated a 1911calligraphy thank you to the Cedar Fort Relief Society Presidentsigned by all the ladies of the Relief Society and a 1900 walletowned by Lehi Resident John Broadbent.

Judy Turner donated the July 2012 National Geographic withphotographs of the Lehi Foam Day.

We started a new War Veteran Story files at the Archives. John Haws donated his Utah Statehood Centennial Newspaper

produced by the Deseret News on Jan. 4, 1996; 1896­1996. This isa great addition to the Archives.

Researched and printed out all the stories of Old Folks Parties from1891­1906. There were dozens of articles on Old Folks Parties heldin Lehi.

The Sons of the Utah Pioneers came and toured the Lehi HistoricalArchives on April 16. Several Members brought donations for theArchives. They are committed to help with build the Archives.

May 2013 It is the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Lehi History by Hamilton

Gardner. Started the Historical Timeline of Lehi History. This is amajor project and will be actively worked on over the next year. It wascompleted and placed this year on the Lehi City Archive web pagesfor all to access. This was a major success of the year.

We also started adding to our web pages and typing up the 1913biographies of Lehi people included in the History. This was anothermajor project for 2013 in connection with the 100th anniversary. Allthese stories are now available on the Web pages for all to read andenjoy.

Prepared Biography Files on all of the original 52 settlers at SulphurSprings. Researched their stories and found photographs of thesepeople for the Archives.

The Lehi City Almanac was expanded. The Categories added: Lehi Librarians Directors of the Civic Improvement Association Update on the Mormon Battalion Lehi Roundup Parade Grand Marshals Lehi Militia Involved in the Utah War Lehi Militia Involved in the Defense of Fort Limhi Lehi Militia Involved in the Walker War Lehi Militia Involved in the Tintic War Lehi Roundup Royalty War of 1812 Veteran Settlers at Sulphur Springs. The Archives received a valuable donation of historical items fromthe Jordan River Pump houses. The Pump Houses are goingthrough some major remodeling and rebuilding. The Lehi HistoricalArchives received a donation of documents and letters dealing withthe building of the Pump houses, the engineering, and the history.Archibald Gardner of Gardner Village fame and his son built the

pumps for the Jordan River Pump houses. These are someremarkable documents. There is also some historical engineeringbooks from the turn of the century. This was donated by LynetteHarris. Lynette Lewis Harris obtained the pump records from herbrother, Gregory Glen Lewis who lives and works at the pumps.These records were going to be put in the garbage but our familythought they should be saved. Rita Lewis’ grand father JC Wanlasshelped build the pump house and worked there as did Gary'sgrandfather and father. This is literally a donation of hundreds ofitems.

John Haws donated a “Red Letter Testament” printed in 1901 thatwas given to his son J.K. on his eighth birthday. This was owned bya Broadbent in Lehi at the turn of the century. This is a bible that putthe New Testament speaking in the words of the Savior in red. Healso donated the books Duties and Blessings of the Priesthood andthe Walnut Tree. He also donated a CD of Touched by an Angel,original Strength of the Youth Pamphlet and a MASH YouthConference T Shirt.

Lynette Harris donated 51 photographs of Ray Brown’s service in theKorean War. It has photographs of the ship and war equipment,Thailand and photographs of Japan. There are also about 50 slidesof his service in the Korean War. There was also service papers ofSherril Karnar and a dog tag from the Korean War for Byron D. Keith.

Lynette Harris donated a vintage 1960’s Dutch Master Cigar Box. Itheld the photographs of Ray Brown.

Brent Wagstaff donated a 1949 Utah Centennial History Book. Brentdonated the four volumes of the Treasures of Pioneer History byKate B. Carter and the two volumes of Our Pioneer Heritage by KateB. Carter. These are major volumes by the Daughters of the UtahPioneers.

David Michael Dayton completed compiling and printing the MormonPioneer Companies and a listing of people who came with eachcompany from the LDS site. There were eight large volumes of

information. This is a great addition to the Archives.June 2013

Celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Veterans Ballpark. Had a displayof Vets Ball Park photographs at 60th Anniversary of the VetsBallpark. Archives received an autographed ball thrown tocommemorate the 60 anniversary. It was autographed by DeanKirkham, original chairman of the park, Mayor Bert Wilson and theCity Council.

Cataloged 75 years of Lehi Roundup Royalty photographs andarticles about the Queens. It was a major project. Thanks to DonnaAnderson for this collection.

J. Knollin Haws donated some articles on Camp Floyd , a bookAmerica the Beautiful by the Disabled Veterans of America, somemovie tickets over 25 years old and some funeral programs of Lehiindividuals.

Debbie Thurgood donated a booklet on the history of the automobilein Utah including the John Devey automobile made in Lehi. She alsogave me a photograph of the automobile license from the JohnDevey vehicle. This was the first motorized vehicle in Utah.

Judy Hansen donated the histories of Darrall Maurice Carter and theCarter Band and Merlin Gaisford and his military service. She alsodonated four histories of different Hansens of Lehi. She alsodonated some photographs that are being copied. She donated twoLehi Heritage Newspapers from 1981, the latest program from theAmerican Legion Memorial Day celebration and the newspaper withthe stories of the Veterans in the Herald.

John Haws donated some birthday party cards and Valentine Cardsfrom the 1950’s. He also donated some Mt. Timpanogosgroundbreaking program and site construction photo. He donated aLehi Jr. High yearbook from 1966. He donated a picture ofGeraldine Ekins and John in the John Hutchings Museum. He alsodonated a pin from the Utah Centennial and a George Washington

dollar from the Presidential Collection. Douglas and Colleen Calton donated a World War I McClellan

saddle that was used by a Lehi soldier. His father bought the saddlefrom the man and Doug used it as a young man. This saddle isincluded in museums around the country. Colleen donated earlychecks from the State Bank of Lehi. Colleen also donated 3 bricksmade by the Slater Brick company. The first brick company in Lehi.One brick is inscribed with an S; one brick with Lehi, and one withSBCO standing for the Slater Brick Company. She also gave ahistory of the Brick Company. They also donated a 1944 Lehi FreePress.

There were some railroad shipment invoices sent from Salt Lake andProvo to Lehi Station and the Lehi Junction station. These are from1882 and are very frail. There is also a telegram to Lehi inviting themto the Old Dominion Telegraph Line celebration at Saltair sentAugust 20, 1895.

Lynette Harris , and Gary and Rhea Lewis donated some flags,banners and other items that were hand sewn for the RodeoGrounds. Lynette framed a picture of the Rodeo Grounds. Rheahad some pictures of her and Gary as children on floats in theparade. They also had a picture of the Lehi Marching Band andsome other pictures of floats.

Cathy Allred of the Daily Herald made a donation of all of the articlesof the paper that she wrote on northern Utah County on the years atthe Lehi Free Press and at the Daily Herald. This is a majorcollection of articles and a fitting tribute to the lady who has coveredour community in the news. She also donated the last year `(9months) issues of the Lehi Free Press to the archives.

Jim Strong donated the book Porter Rockwell Chronicles Vol III.2001 by Richard Lloyd Devey

Charley Nelson donated a poster of the Salt Lake Olympics and anarticle from the Herald on the archives.

Amy Wesson donated some close­up photographs of Porter

Rockwell on the This is the Place Monument. She also donated aphoto of Lyman Curtis, founder of Salem, Utah.

Stan and Peggy Lewis donated some items in celebration of theLehi Roundup including the 75th anniversary belt buckle, hats, a ringgiven to rodeo winners and some coins and commemorative keyrings.

Ron Stine donated a print of a James T. Hayward original painting ofthe Winn’s Floral Shop­Farmers Paradise. He owns the originalpainting by the Lehi Artist. This is a new florist that was not on the listof Lehi Businesses

Ron Meyers donated a document and a copy of a print of ChiefArapeen and the wording of the document where Brigham Youngbought Sanpete County from Chief Arapeen. The rights are ownedby Ron Meyers.

Hutchings Museum donated a photocopy of the Chipman Store inAmerican Fork. They just recently received as a donation the CashRegister from the Old Chipmans store in American Fork.

Held Open Houses at the Archives. Over 100 people attended. Themain attraction was the Gary Lewis Rodeo collection.

July 2013 Lehi City provided 6 new file cabinets for the Lehi Biography

Collection. These drawers have now expanded to over 2,000biographies. It is a tremendous collection.

Mayor J.H. Hadfield of American Fork,(Lehi Native) donated theRoundup 50th anniversary Belt Buckle which we did not have. Healso donated a 1954 and a 1959 yearbook which we only had copiesin our files.

Karen Hadfield Adams donated a disc with all of the Hadfieldphotographs and biographies on it. This is a major collection of theHadfield history of Lehi.

Judy Hansen donated some photographs she took at the AmericanLegion Memorial Day Program. These are some wonderful

photographs. She also donated a collection of Willow Parkphotographs. She also obtained off of the internet some earlyphotographs of the Road north of Lehi going to Salt Lake, EarlyGovernor Rampton photographs and some photographs of theMormon Meteor.

Chris Horton completed his Eagle Project. He documented about200 businesses in Lehi with information and photographs of each. Itis a great documentation of businesses in 2013.

John Haws donated his collection of City Council memorabilia, flyersand advertisements. He also donated a collection of Lehi StakeRoadshow programs, Lehi High School Drama programs, cardsfrom the 50’s, 1972 graduation announcement, passes to the UnitedStates Capitol,Little League Football Articles,

William Brown and Susan Corson donated genealogical records forJohn Austin and Parley Austin including copies of citizenshiprecords, birth and death records, patriarchal blessing and baptismand priesthood ordination records. These are the owners of thecabin at Hutchings Museum.

The family of James Henry Allred and Kate Markland Jones donateda large collection of stories, poems, and biographies of Lehi and theAllred clan who lived early in Lehi. They were descendents ofSamuel Mulliner of Mulliner’s Mill fame.

Kenny Norris provided a scrapbook of photographs of Cedar Fortand Lehi to make copies of the great photographs.

A Micron Groundbreaking Shovel used on July 1, 1995 was donatedby John Knollin Haws, City council member at the time. He alsodonated a Micron groundbreaking shirt used on July 1, 1995.

Rhea Lewis donated the 2013 print of Stan Wanlass road raceseries.

Doug Calton donated a 1940 valentine given to him by Shirley SmithHaws

Clyde Rasmussen continues to save and donate his Deseret News

which are clipped for the Archives. This is a great service. Added the following to the Almanac Page: Timeline of Veterans

Ballpark and Newspaper Hall of Fame with three from Lehi.August 2013

Met with Jim Penrod, the owner operator of the old Penrod Store onMain Street. I went to his house and went through the photos that hehas. There were many photographs that I had never viewed before.Many of them were on the inside of the Pennys store. There wasalso a photograph of the Elk Saloon sign above the Penny’s sign. Itis a great photograph. He is going to donate copies of all thephotographs and biographies of his parents, and he and his wife.

The biographies of the Religious Leaders of Lehi have been copiedand included in their individual folders. This was a major addition (50new residents) to our Biography files. Copied all of the history of theearly wards as provided in the Book LDS Religious History­first 100years and put in their individual files.

Michael Glathar completed his Eagle Project. He gathered almanactype information about the High School. This information will beadded to and eventually end up in the almanac files. While it was notcomplete, it contained information from 1970­2013 using theyearbooks they had at the High School. With a little bit of work, thesewill be major additions to the Almanac Pages.

Debbie Thurgood donated some amazing old articles from the LehiFree Press­over 50 years old. The John Hutchings Museum donateda historical record of visits by school to the Museum.

John Haws donated an original dedication program of the Lehi FifthWard Church, Lehi Fifth Ward Album made in the 1960’s, Certificateof Membership in the Genealogical Society of Utah, Provo TempleBuilding Fund Certificate, Photographic page of early schools inLehi, Lehi Utah Stake Presidencies, medal from a Lehi YouthConference, International Symbol of FHE 1970’s,two Lehi ResidentHistories and some 1800’s Patriarchal Blessings. He also donated a

Woneva Meyers donated eleven Utah Historical Quarterlys, 1976Mountain Bell Lehi Phone Book, History of the Cedar Fort RodeoGrounds, several photographs of Cedar Fort, 1977 Cedar ValleyWar Book of Remembrance, 6 Utah Historical Society Newsletters.She also provided an important service. She worked and identifiedall of the people in the seven photographs. This makes thephotographs, much more valuable. This was a wonderful collectionshe donated.

Charley Nelson, former City Building Maintenance, brought ascrapbook with all of his awards he received for the City and theMemorial Grounds from the Salt Lake Tribune. He also broughtphotographs of Lehi, his father (Lehi Cop) Ashley Nelson, his motherand family. There were some great photographs of Lehi. Weobtained copies for the Lehi Archives files.

David E. Haws donated his Bible he used in 1975 on his mission toEngland. for the Lehi Archives Bible collection.

We had a very successful Friends of the Archives Board meeting.Assignments were made on the signage at the Archives. Wediscussed a page on facebook, discussed recent donations andmade some assignments. Some concerns were the Lehi RollerMIlls and the changeover and the effect on artifacts. The AmericanaCollection was also discussed and the efforts that are being made toresearch these items. Deserae Parker is a volunteer for the Friendsof the Lehi Archives. She brings the enthusiasm of Youth to theBoard.

Rhea Lewis donated some photographs of the tearing down of theLehi Riding Club. She also donated a book of stories, biographiesand information about the Wanlass, Jackson and Lewis families.This is a tremendous collection. Her help on the archives is beyondbelief.

Lynette Lewis donated the book “Memories That Live­Utah County

Centennial History” She also found a biography of FrancesWashington Kirkham. She also found some letters of early LehiYouth who wrote letters to the Juvenile Instructor. These kids werenine years old when they wrote these stories

John Hutchings Museum donated the records of School Visits from2004­2008.

The family of Susan Walton, donated some scrapbooks, GoldenApple award and letters and information about her 35 years teachingat Lehi Elementary. She taught at the Lehi Elementary from1977­2012. She died two months ago. They were given to BoardMember Deserae Parker.

Woneva Meyers , a former resident of Cedar Fort, that lives in Lehidonated some wonderful photographs of Cedar Fort. She alsodonated information from the Utah County on the poundmaster.James Shelton Hacking was a county commissioner and the countyanimal control. She has done research at the Utah County and at theState Historical society and donated copies to the Lehi Archives. Itis some wonderful history. The Lehi Archives continues to get somegreat photographs and information about the Cedar Valley.

September 2013 Created a page on the Archives web page that will have all the

Richard Van Wagoner stories about the Mayors of Lehi. Bill Gibbs,44th mayor was the first one in commemoration of his death. Typedup the Richard Van Wagoner’s essays on the terms of Silas Barnesand David Evans, J. Hamilton Gardner, and John R. Murdock, IsaacGoodwin, Israel Evans and William H. Winn, Samuel Thurman,Andrew Rasmus Peterson, and Ollie Ellingson. This project wascompleted in the month of December 2013. All of Richards storieson the Mayors are available to all on the Web Page.

Finished the Almanac Pages on the Lehi High School­Student BodyPresidents, Cheerleaders, Senior Class Officers, and the Plays andMusicals produced.

Started the People place in the History of Lehi. This was added inDecember to the Web pages and has been updated each Mondaysince and will continue to as major additions are made each week. Itis a significant document.

Completed files on all of the Governors and Territorial Governors ofUtah.

The Hacking Collection donated by Woneva Meyers was completedcataloging and filing.

Rhea Lewis donated 6 remarkable photographs for the Photographcollection. Two are of the Lehi Second Ward. One is of a YoungWomen Rose Night and the other is of a primary graduation withbandalos. There are two recent photographs of Rhea and GaryLewis. There are two of Wanlass Historical photographs. One is ofthe Wanlass Barn (Shelby Taylors recently) in New Survey. Theother is of the Thomas daughters.

The family of Susan Walton, a Lehi Elementary teacher of 35 yearsdonated her teaching award, some stories she had written for herstudents,newspaper clippings, a teaching bag and memorabilia fromher teaching years. They also donated the Centennial BrighamYoung Banyon 1875­1975. There is also the Book by Dr. Seuss“And To Think that I Saw It On Mulberry Street” from 1937­Herfavorite book.

Received an Instruction on Mens Military Dress from the 1930’s;Jazz Blue Edwards Rookie Card from 1990, some 1920’s AlpineSchool District class advancement certificates, Genealogical Societyform and an early Word of Wisdom Pamphlet from the LDS Church.

Nancy Weitzel and the Hester Rippy Literacy Center donated someartifacts from the Literacy Center. There was the dress that Hesteralways wore, her necklace and hair piece. There was Hester’sclipboard and a box full of historical items from the Literacy Center.They also donated a regular size file cabinet from the LiteracyCenter.

experiences Woneva Meyers donated some early photographs of buildings in

Cedar Fort; Some information on the brands book of the StateHistorical Society and early information on the early animal industry inUtah. There was also a copy of the deed of the old Cedar Fortschool. Woneva also donated some wonderful biographies,photographs and stories of life in Cedar Fort in the Hackingcollection.

Hand­written Temple and Family Record book of Margaret BerryBennett Beck from the turn of the century was donated.

Judy Hansen obtained from the Fenn family photographs, genealogyand a copy of the oral history of Harold Fenn’s War Stories. Ireceived them the day before Harold died. She received also thebiography of Blanche Roberts and a copy of a 1917 Lehi yearbook.

Connie Nielson donated 12 Utah Historical Quarterlies that theArchives did not have. They are from 2004­2006.

Amy Hadfield Barnes donated the book Pistol Packin Parson aboutand By Lehi Marshal George Ricks. This was in response to arequest on the internet to Lehi people.

Hutchings Museum (from the gang) donated a poster and flyersabout their Pirate Night held in September and other upcomingevents.

October 2013 Moved all of the LDS files to the new file cabinets and were able file

and straighten all the current files in folders and hung. Filed the Veteran War Stories in new files. The Friends of Camp Floyd held their meeting at the Archives. (7

Spent three hours with Carl Mellor. He had information on theScandinavian Gathering Place he wanted to explain to me. He tookme to see the Peck and Russon Historical Marker in northern Lehi.He showed me the old Sego Lily School and the Fourth WardChurch. He gave me two books of photographs of his tours of Lehifor me to copy. He helped me find the old Clark home to answer therequests of a Mr. Isaac Clark about his father. There was a lot ofinformation he wanted me to know.

Typed up a listing of the missionaries sent from Lehi for LDSmissions prior to 1904. This will go to the Almanac the first ofNovember.

Gave a tour to Representative Kay Christofferson of the Lehi CityArchives. He donated the Christofferson book and is going to dosome volunteer work for the Archives. He is going to gather all of thelegislators that represented Lehi from the Territory Legislature to thecurrent time.

Obtained the cornerstone from the old Lehi Tabernacle. It wasdisplayed on the Lehi Stake Center grounds and they were gettingrid of it. The Lehi City Parks department were able to move andpreserved the piece and it is in the Archives.

Worked on getting the Hadfield family donated by Karen Adams intoall of the files. I typed several of the stories for the Web as I amgoing to focus on William Hadfield in the November web pages.Typed up a poem tribute to William Hadfield and a story of hisservice as a Lehi Mailman.

The Archives were able to locate a book on Veterans produced byRichard Van Wagoner. This is a tremendous asset in the work weare doing on the Veteran Collection.

Went on a Three Hour Tour of Lehi with Connie Nielson and CarlMellor. We visited the sites of Lehi and taped Carl talking aboutthem.

Met with and visited the Utah State Archives. Julian Mercer donated some photographs of the Lehi Class of 1954

and a program of the graduation. Pleasant Grove Jr. High School donated a collection of National

Geographic Hardback books on the National Parks and a couple ofsmall historical booklets on prohibition and immigration. These arehard back books with photographs and historical descriptionsincluding those in Utah.

Received a photograph of the State Street Confectionary. It wasstarting in 1920. I had no record about this business before. It wasan exciting donation by Lowell Jensen. I researched and foundsome information about the business and the people who owned it.

Jim and Lavee Strong donated a hard­book on the history of theBushman family. They also donated an early history of the Lehi UtahRelief Society.

Judy Hansen completed Oral War Histories of Vivian Carter andAlvin Schow.

John Haws donated a 25 year old Cub Scout shirt full of old badges.He also donated an 1892 Utah County School District Diploma(poster size). His wife Jeanette Haws donated a LDS Hymn Book ofprevious days that was used in Lehi.

The Christofferson Family donated a Hardback Book on theAlexander DeWitt Christofferson Family.

Marilyn Banasky donated a Veterans of the Blackhawk War1909­1951 handwritten record book. There were also original lettersabout Blackhawk Encampments

Lehi Stake has donated the cornerstone of the Old Lehi Tabernacle. Leonora Bolles donated a copy of the original plans for the Mathias

Knutsen Home at 395 North Center Street Lehi and a 25 year oldpicture of the home.

Chase Murphy for his Eagle Scout prepared a book documentingAmerican Fork Canyon in 2013. His book is a tremendous photoalbum of pictures and stories of American Fork. This is anothergreat Eagle Project and addition to the archives.

businesses including B&K auto, Cash’s Western Auto, Maverick,Lehi Drug Co.; GRS drivelines, Palisade Propane, Wasatch Bank,from Clyde Rasmussen.

Received a box of Music from the Clark Family. It is a collection ofantique music from the 1920­1940’s. Included in the collection issome rare historical Mormon music books and Music Books fromBYU. These are some tremendous assets. A file cabinet is beingdonated for the collection. It will be here in the next month.

The American Legion provided a listing that can be used by theArchives to obtain records of those that participated in the recentwars in the Middle East. We are excited for the relationship that isbeing fostered between the Veterans and the Archives.

Found two scrapbooks prepared by Richard Van Wagoner on thehistory of World War II from the files of the local newspapers. It is atremendous work recently discovered.

The Jorgensen family of Salt Lake donated a box of memorabiliafrom the Jordan River Pumping Station and George Knight of LehiCity councilmember and employee at the Jordan River Pumpingstation.

Lynette Harris donated photographs and articles about Dallin Harrisand his monument to the Olympic torch parade that ran through Lehi.It was unveiled on Feb. 5, 2002 in front of the Legacy Center. It washis Eagle Project and a lasting tribute to the Salt Lake Olympics.There were also photographs of the Olympic torch parade through

Lehi and through Camp Floyd. Woneva Meyers donated information about Outhouses in the United

States. Mary Lou Wells donated four wood newspaper picture stamps used

in the early days of newspapers in Lehi. There are four differentpeople all of them from Lehi. This is a great addition to thecollection.

Judy Hansen donated 30 photographs of the John Beck Homecoming down. Judy Hansen also obtained 5 war biographies of LehiResidents. These are tremendous stories of World War II.

Hadfield family donated three more Hadfield Histories American Fork Historical Society donated a 1962 Program of the

re­dedication of the Alpine Stake Tabernacle. Connie Nielson donated a history of her business, Bridal Center

celebrating 50 years in business. Connie donated 8 Utah HistoricalQuarterlies, Newspaper Articles, Old Obituaries, Old Peterson Homedescription, an original adobe house in Lehi. She also obtained twodifferent aged film strip projectors. This collection was filed andcataloged.

The friends of Camp Floyd donated some biographies of pioneersin the Lehi area who married Camp Floyd Soldiers. There was alsosome major research on the Utah War.

John Knollin Haws donated a bag of used United States stamps. We received copies of Photographs of a section of the Lehi

Cemetery Headstones. John K. Haws Jr. donated a collection of stories of Lehi and Cedar

Fort for the Archives. Konner Jackman donated over 150 photographs of the Lehi

Cemetery. Daniel McDonald donated a photographic book documenting

Thanksgiving Point. The Photographs also had hard copies andwere on a disc.

Mayor Bert Wilson donated a file of Lehi Roundup Celebration rodeo

programs and parade outlines. There were some items about theparade and rodeo that the Archives did not have before.

The Friends of The Archives Board took a tour of the Buildings andsites of Lehi, learning from one another. It was a very educationalevent for all.

December 2013 Cataloged the 15,000 item on Sunday December 8th at 10:27 p.m. I

am thrilled with finally meeting this goal. Exceeded our 2013 goal of 2013 photographs and History. We met

it with hundreds to spare. Mrs J.W. Clark donated a box of music. All the music is from the

1880’s to the 1940’s. The music is being cataloged by title and willbe put into a new file cabinet.

Mrs J.W. Clark donated seven issues of Etude Magazine from1947­48. She also donated “Concerning Music in the Church ofJesus Christ of Latter­Day Saints”; Latter­Day Saints Anthems vol. 1(1906); Sing the Songs of BYU (1926); Music from the Heber 4thWard, and one choir music from Alpine Stake from the early 1900’s.

Brent Wagstaff donated a Legal File Cabinet. This will house theMrs J.W. Clark Music Collection.

Jay D. Hadfield donated a Wood Holder for blueprints, plans andmaps. This was his eagle project. This will hold 48 maps etc. andwill hold the tubes to protect them. This is a beautiful solid woodcreation for the Archives.

Russ Felt donated the huge Book­ History of Utah by Orson Whitney.Pleasant Grove Jr. High School donated a Book on National Parks.

Rhea Lewis donated a story about Christmas memories in Lehi thatshe wrote.

Edna Loveridge donated the book about the first Blacksmith in Lehi.Joseph Johnson Smith and his family. He was friends with DavidEvans and came to Lehi because of this friendship.

John Haws donated the book “The Christmas Orange by Linda

Bethers. She is the librarian at the Sego Lily School. Broadbents donated a new historical pamphlet about the history of

their store. Knollin Haws donated the 100th Anniversary Boy Scout Patch to the

Archives. Colton Kunz donated a photography book of the Outlets at Traverse

Mountain. All of the Casualties from World War I were typed up for the Lehi

Archives veteran files. We are surprised that most died from theSpanish Flu of 1918 only at their Encampments around the country.

We developed a relationship with the Facebook site “So you thinkyou are from Lehi...” They put memories down of Lehi and theArchives are going to post some of them on our webpage and savethem by category in our files. This gets more people involved in theHistory of Lehi. This is an exciting social network experience for theArchives. We typed up postings on the Lehi Bakery, WilfordBrimley, Gift­A­Rama, Lehi Christmas Parade.

We held a meeting with the Stakes of Lehi. While the attendancewas disappointing, we received a new Board Member­David Brewer.He is employed by the LDS Division of Family History and has a newdepth to the board in technology and access of the public. We areexcited for the new year. He believes he can obtain a couple ofMicrofilm machines for the Archives. We already have a microfichemachine.

Met with Nan and Betty Broadbent about information about theBroadbents store. Made and appointment to meet with them aboutthe donation of the poster of Mr. Broadbent’s mission in England andother Lehi treasures being donated by the Broadbent family. Theyhave had a major impact on Lehi throughout the years. They areexcited about being associated with the Lehi Archives. Sent theminformation about their relatives and stories that we have in theArchives currently.

Restructured the Biographies on the Web Page to include the 1950

biographies. I typed up twenty­one Biographies from the 1950History and will start putting them on the web. It will be one of ournext goals to complete all these histories now the Mayors stories arecompleted.

As you can see it has been a tremendous year for theArchives. We hope that this year will be as kind to theArchives.
