The Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17th in the Garden Room at 6:00p.m. This important meeting immediately follows the monthly Board of Directors meeting. ALL CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP are encouraged to attend. Newly elected board members will be announced and the state of the Club will be addressed. There are four board terms that are expiring this year. Any full resident member who is interested in serving on the Board of Directors should contact me to have their name placed on the ballot. You may email me (llentz@

crown-colony.com) or contact me by phone at (936)637-8830. Ballots will be mailed out to all voting members on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 and must be returned to the Club office by noon on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. Our annual Halloween Costume Contest and Party on Wednesday, October 28th was the biggest and best yet! With Halloween punch, a “Make Your Own” Smores station, popcorn and a barrel of candy, over 60 little ghosts and goblins (as well as a variety of superheroes, princesses and dragons!) and their parents enjoyed a beautiful East Texas evening under a full moon. While there were no Werewolves, there was an Elvis sighting! Thanks to everyone who dressed up and came out to this fun filled event – you all did a BOOtiful job on your costumes! This SPOOKtacular event is becoming one of our most popular children’s parties! As Elvis would say, “Thank you, thank you

very much!” The weather is perfect right now for al fresco dining on the Patio. Join us on Thursday evenings for the Pot of Gold weekly drawing and stay for NFL Thursday Night Football! The big flat screen television will be set up on the Patio for those who want to enjoy the fall season. Remember that Thursday is also Happy Hour with half price drinks and wine by the glass from 5 to 8 p.m. Make your reservations early for the Thanksgiving buffet here at the Club. Whether dining here at the Club or ordering a dinner package, Chef Agustin’s culinary staff will make your Thanksgiving gathering a special occasion! Our best wishes go out to everyone for a safe and happy holiday season this year! We are thankful for the opportunity to serve you and your family and friends!

See you at the Club!

Congratulations to the LGA on hosting a great Club Championship. You will see our winners in their pictures. Congratulations to each one of them on their victories. We had great competition and we hope that all of you will try to play in next year’s event.

Ladida was a tremendous success this year. Due to the rains of May we had to move this year’s event to September. That turned out to be a blessing. We had 88 players of which 34 were new participants in the tournament. So it looks like this may become a permanent time for ladida. As you can see by the pictures we were still represented well by our Crown Colony members. Congratulations to everyone for a great job! la-di-da Results are on pages 14 & 15.

Challenge Cup: If you missed out on The Challenge Cup, I’m sorry. Competition was great as after round one the matches were all tied at 2 ½ points each. So on Sunday the singles matches would decide who is the Challenge Cup Champion. As you will see the Red Team prevailed even thru a try by the blue team of making water sprinklers come on the last two holes. No proof they did this but we have sources. I hope to see you all participate in this great event next year.

Senior Golden Open: One of our ongoing events is the Senior Golden Open Tournament. We invite all of the local seniors age 60 and over to come play some golf with us. The flights are done by age and the rules are lift, clean and cheat. There is no out of bounds we play the ball up and all putts are good inside 18 inches. So you can see we usually have some pretty low scores. I have to say one of the most inspiring groups is the 80 and above. They are a resilient group that wants to play golf forever. I hope we can all follow in their footsteps and do the same. If you missed this one, be on the lookout for next spring we do this twice a year.

MGA NewsBy Mike Reitzel

2016 MGA officers elected at our annual meeting were Doug Chandler as President and Secretary/Treasure is Mike Haney. Bunker raking was noted in our last newsletter and I would like to mention it again this month. We have to get back to playing the ball down in our bunkers. That means care must be taken to rake each bunker thoroughly after making a shot. In fact, just like ball marks on the greens, if we could look at the entire bunker every time we enter one and take care of irregularities everyone would benefit. Just like the rough, occasionally you are going to get a bad lie, but it does not have to be in another

members foot print next to the rake. Please be courteous and rake the bunker when you are finished.

October MGA Results October had 14 play days with 224 players averaging 16 players per day. The high was 20 players and the low was 10 players. 21 different players placed in at least one event and 62 players placed in October. Low scores were posted by Don Butler with low rounds of 60,63,63 65,66,68 and 69 and 7 trips to the pay window. Dale Green also had 7 trips and Gary day was close behind with 6 trips.

The la-di-da tournament began on a wet note, but thanks to Stephen and his crew, we were able to ride the course, lift, clean and place, and drop out of the bunkers. Thanks, too, to Ben and staff for making everyone welcome and being available to answer and solve any questions that might arise. A huge thank-you to Lin, chef Agustin and waitstaff for the great food and decorations for the welcome party, as well as the meals for the rest of the tournament. We thank Suzan Knox and the la-di-da committee for a successful and well-run tournament. Aren’t we lucky to belong to the best country club and play on the greatest golf course in East Texas? The club championship has concluded and a new champion has been crowned. The lead changed several times

over the course of play and the match was not decided until the final 18th hole. Cecily Delane, Congratulations!!! Runner-up is Ella McGaughey. 1st flight winner is Mary Ellen Rowland. 2nd flight winner is Mickey Benton. A big thank you to all who played. Many of our members are still out of town, but we hope to see them back with us soon. (We did have an incident one day during a round. Donna Hill decided to retrieve her embedded ball on the bank of #4, but in the process of leaning down she lost her balance and took a header into the water. Her pride suffered greatly, but she also sprained an ankle in the process. Like the trooper she is, she managed to finish competing in the tournament.) Can’t keep a good golfer down! cont’d. on page 15

The Member-Member will be played on October 28-29. There will be all types of interesting and unusual costumes. It is the time to lose inhibitions, act silly, and have fun for two days. Results will be in the December Leisure. Final Babe of Babes will be November 5. September winners are Gayle Brent, Donna Chicoine, Cheryl Faircloth, and Dot Jones. There will be a gross and net winner, but the biggest winners will be the survivors of breast cancer. All monies collected each month goes toward the research and cure of breast cancer and stay in our local community. Please call the pro shop if you will be unable to play. The tournament schedule is winding down, but there is still time and play and be eligible for the year-end awards. Remember, tee times for play days are 10:00 a.m. and be sure to call in 30 minutes before play if you plan to participate. See you on the course!!
