St Mary’s, Woodkirk Lent Prayer Diary 2012 Reflect and Pray every day
22nd
February “My song is love unknown, my Saviour’s love to
me. Love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be.”
Father, I thank you for the love you have shown me. I pray for
those whose lives are lived devoid of love, that something of your
love for them might be expressed through others. If I can be the
means of bringing your love into someone’s life, use me, Lord.
Amen. 23rd February Given something up for Lent? How is that helping
others? Why not give what you save, or make a conscious effort
to help somebody in some way each day through Lent.
24th February Fairtrade supports food producers abroad so they
get a fair price for their food and goods. Do I go that extra mile
to ensure I buy fairly traded goods?
25th February Lead kindly light, amid the encircling gloom
Dear Lord, we rely on you so much to bring us through each day,
each predicament, especially when all seems lost. And we look to
you with confidence to help us through it all.
26th
February Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, for
thee Lord, I want to dedicate the whole of my life to you and not
just the parts I think I can spare. I pray to you please direct all my
thoughts and actions so that I shall come to know how I should
live my life to your praise and glory. Amen.
27th February I thank you for your selflessness, and that you will
instil this in me. Help us to give to you in mind, body and soul.
28th February “O who am I, that for my sake, My Lord should
take frail flesh and die?” Jesus, I don’t deserve the love you
have shown me, and I never can. Help me, this Lent, to absorb thewonder of your love for me afresh, and to respond with a deeper
love for you. Amen.
29th
February We pray for young families and that we find room
in hearts to make a place for them at St Mary’s.
1st March Lord, you gave the ultimate sacrifice of your son for us.
Are we prepared to make sacrifices for the greater good? Are we
prepared to live our lives like Jesus?
2nd
March Don’t walk ahead of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk
behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me, and be my friend.
3rd March Thank you Lord for my life which you have enriched
with your love.
4th
March “He came from his blest throne salvation to bestow .
But men made strange, and none the longed-for Christ would know.” Jesus, people still fail to recognise you today, just as they
did then. I pray for those who need to know your presence with
them in the traumas they face today, that their eyes may be
opened to your love. Amen.
5th March Lord, I pray that I will be kind to others, help ones in
need, give up things which are not necessary and look after
friends and family when they are ill.
6th March Lord, when I am tempted to feel sorry for myself, help
me to see with fresh eyes the goodness which you have brought
into my life. Amen.
7th March How lovely on the mountains are the feet of Him
who brings good news. Dear Lord, we give you thanks for all the
wonder of nature, the mountains, the valleys, the birds, animals,
plants, trees and every little thing which makes our world such a
wonderful place to be in.
8th
March Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is
hatred in life, let me bring peace and love to others so that all
may go through life without pain.
9th March Anger is only one letter away from Danger. How is this
affecting countries across the world, and how can our ownactions affect people closer to home.
10th March Psalm 23 v 5 Even though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for though art with me thy rod
and thy staff they comfort me. Lord help me to see that to
experience the highs of your mountains I need to experience the
desolation of the valleys. Reflect and pray for all those working to
support others who suffer; in the health service, counselling
services, bereavement support, hospices. What do we do to make
lives better for others?
11th March Be still for the presence of the Lord is moving in
this place. Lord, as we sing this hymn we know your spirit is with
us here. Please help us to be quiet and listen to what you have to
say to us now and when we are out in the world with its many
distractions.
12th March “Sometimes they strew his way, and his sweet
praises sing…. Then “Crucify” is all their breath.” Forgive me,
Lord, for the times when my life is inconsistent with the praises I
sing in church. Help me to live each day – and this day – and an
offering of praise to you for what you have done for me. Amen.
13th March Dear Lord, let us think at this time of all our blessings
and to remember those who have little of material or emotional
things.
14th March I pray for those preparing for confirmation. As they
reflect upon the promises they will make, remind us of the
promises we have given in our lives to you. How are we doing?
15th
March I pray for all ill people to get better, especially those
suffering from cancer.
16th March Bind us together Lord, bind us together, with
cords that cannot be broken. Dear Lord, we know you love us as
individuals but also, we believe, as groups of similarly minded
people embracing the same ideals and aspirations; may we, as
members of this church and community, use our love, talents and
abilities to help those around us for the good of all.
17th March I pray for all children, in all parts of the world. Help
them to know you more and plant seeds of your love that will
grow through their lives.
18th
March I thank you Jesus for my friends and family; our
parents, brothers, sisters, Grandma and Granddad. Help us to be
closer as a family.

St Mary’s, Woodkirk Lent Prayer Diary 2012 Reflect and Pray every day
19th
March “Why, what hath my Lord done? What makes this
rage and spite? He made the lame to run and gave the blind
their sight.” Help me to recall afresh all the blessings you have
given me. The renewed energy, the fresh insight into your truth,
the purpose you have made possible for my life. Amen.
20th March I pray for everyone we know to keep fit and healthy.
21st March “Every Saint has a past, every sinner has a future.”
Do you repent of your sins? Do you forgive others?
22nd March Pray for those in leadership positions. Help us to trust
their judgement, support them in difficult situations, and pray for
them regularly.
23rd March Tell out my soul the greatness of the Lord. Dear
Lord – you know we love and follow you. We ask that you will
give us the strength and knowledge to proclaim that love to
others in both words and actions so that they might willingly join
in worshipping you.
24th March Help us to give up worrying about the small things
and think more of those bigger problems which people face and
help to ease them. There are millions worse off than us in the
world, what can we do to help them? 25th March April I pray for all the people who pass through St
Mary’s each week. Help them to feel a part of our church, and
help us to welcome them as our nearest neighbour.
26th March “In life no house, no home, my Lord on earth
might have. In death no friendly tomb, but what a stranger
gave.” Jesus, you have gone ahead to prepare a home for me.Yet you had no-where to lay your head. Take up your residence in
my heart and my home afresh this Lent. Help me always to make
space for you. Amen.
27th
March Lord, help us to stand up for you. Be with us as we
move forwards and leave our comfort zones as this is the only
way we will improve as human beings.
28th
March I pray for those who are seeking forgiveness. Help
them to realise that your love and forgiveness in unending.
29th March Brother, sister, let me serve you. We know, dear
Lord, that to be true followers we have to offer our all as you did
for us. Encourage us to be generous with our time and talents –
however great or small they are – and our belongings so that
others might be helped or comforted.
30th March Remember that there is nothing that can separate us
from your love. Bind us together Lord!
31st
March “When I survey the Wondrous cross on which the
Prince of Glory died” We thank you, Lord, for the great sacrifice
you made for us by dying on the cross. We know our sins will be
forgiven if we truly repent and we ask you to help us to keep free
from sin for your sake. Amen.
1st April Lord, your world is suffering under the damage we are
causing due to pollution. Am I doing the most I can to reduce the
amount of energy I use to respect what you have given us and
leave a clean legacy?
2nd
April “Here might I stay and sing no story so divine, Never
was love, dear King, never was grief like thine.” Jesus, your
profound love led to profound grief and pain. My love too often
shies from pain, and so remains shallow and weak. Help me to
bear the pains I see around me and so learn to love more deeply.
Amen.
3rd April Matthew 3 v 3. John was the man the prophet Isaiah was
talking about when he said, “someone is shouting in the desert,
prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for him totravel!” Father help us to create paths that will lead others to you,
and may people still be walking these paths after we have gone.
4th
April Be with all those who worship the false gods of our age.
Help them to see that Jesus’ way of life is the true way to
everlasting happiness.
5th April What a friend we have in Jesus. Dear Lord, we
sometimes forget that we can ask you for guidance, help and,
most importantly, forgiveness for all the stupid and tactless
things we say and do. Remind us, Lord, that your patience is
endless, your example enduring and your help invaluable. Help us
to strive to be the same to those around us.
6th April All righteous people will rejoice because of what the
Lord has done. They will find safety in him. All good people will
praise him. Father we pray that we will never forget what youhave done for us in the past, help us to hold that vision for the
future and never lose sight of you.
7th
April Lord, help my reflections continue through Holy Week.
Help us all at St Mary’s to be together and remember the sacrifice
you made for us, and listen to the words in teaching, prayers and
hymns. Amen.
