St Mary’s, Woodkirk  Lent Prayer Diary 2012   Reflect and Pray every day

19th

March “Why, what hath my Lord done? What makes this

rage and spite? He made the lame to run and gave the blind

their sight.”  Help me to recall afresh all the blessings you have

given me. The renewed energy, the fresh insight into your truth,

the purpose you have made possible for my life. Amen.

20th March I pray for everyone we know to keep fit and healthy.

21st March “Every Saint has a past, every sinner has a future.”

Do you repent of your sins? Do you forgive others?

22nd March Pray for those in leadership positions. Help us to trust

their judgement, support them in difficult situations, and pray for

them regularly.

23rd March Tell out my soul the greatness of the Lord. Dear

Lord – you know we love and follow you. We ask that you will

give us the strength and knowledge to proclaim that love to

others in both words and actions so that they might willingly join

in worshipping you.

24th March Help us to give up worrying about the small things

and think more of those bigger problems which people face and

help to ease them. There are millions worse off than us in the

world, what can we do to help them? 25th March April I pray for all the people who pass through St

Mary’s each week. Help them to feel a part of our church, and

help us to welcome them as our nearest neighbour.

26th March “In life no house, no home, my Lord on earth

might have. In death no friendly tomb, but what a stranger

gave.”  Jesus, you have gone ahead to prepare a home for me.Yet you had no-where to lay your head. Take up your residence in

my heart and my home afresh this Lent. Help me always to make

space for you. Amen.

27th

March Lord, help us to stand up for you. Be with us as we

move forwards and leave our comfort zones as this is the only

way we will improve as human beings.

28th

March I pray for those who are seeking forgiveness. Help

them to realise that your love and forgiveness in unending.

29th March Brother, sister, let me serve you. We know, dear

Lord, that to be true followers we have to offer our all as you did

for us. Encourage us to be generous with our time and talents –

however great or small they are – and our belongings so that

others might be helped or comforted.

30th March Remember that there is nothing that can separate us

from your love. Bind us together Lord!

31st

March “When I survey the Wondrous cross on which the

Prince of Glory died” We thank you, Lord, for the great sacrifice

you made for us by dying on the cross. We know our sins will be

forgiven if we truly repent and we ask you to help us to keep free

from sin for your sake. Amen.

1st April Lord, your world is suffering under the damage we are

causing due to pollution. Am I doing the most I can to reduce the

amount of energy I use to respect what you have given us and

leave a clean legacy?

2nd

April “Here might I stay and sing no story so divine, Never

was love, dear King, never was grief like thine.”  Jesus, your

profound love led to profound grief and pain. My love too often

shies from pain, and so remains shallow and weak. Help me to

bear the pains I see around me and so learn to love more deeply.

Amen.

3rd April Matthew 3 v 3. John was the man the prophet Isaiah was

talking about when he said, “someone is shouting in the desert,

prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for him totravel!” Father help us to create paths that will lead others to you,

and may people still be walking these paths after we have gone.

4th

April Be with all those who worship the false gods of our age.

Help them to see that Jesus’ way of life is the true way to

everlasting happiness.

5th April What a friend we have in Jesus. Dear Lord, we

sometimes forget that we can ask you for guidance, help and,

most importantly, forgiveness for all the stupid and tactless

things we say and do. Remind us, Lord, that your patience is

endless, your example enduring and your help invaluable. Help us

to strive to be the same to those around us.

6th April All righteous people will rejoice because of what the

Lord has done. They will find safety in him. All good people will

praise him. Father we pray that we will never forget what youhave done for us in the past, help us to hold that vision for the

future and never lose sight of you.

7th

April Lord, help my reflections continue through Holy Week.

Help us all at St Mary’s to be together and remember the sacrifice

you made for us, and listen to the words in teaching, prayers and

hymns. Amen.
