April 2017 We’re split this month. For the first two weeks our spiritual lives are in turmoil. This Sunday, April 2, we read the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, the event which many say was the trigger that caused the authorities to go after Jesus. Some people had had enough with that trouble maker, and started plans to get rid of him. Other people, of course, could not get enough! On Palm Sunday, April 9, we are tossed between the crazy party that is Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, and the ghastly spectacle that is Jesus’ arrest, trial and crucifixion. The services during Holy Week, on Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, fill out the story. Every year I read these stories and find something in them I have never seen before. I am moved, thrilled, troubled, by something new new?? How can that be?? every year. I invite you to walk this Way of the Cross over these next few weeks, and to enter into the great story of our salvation. April 2017

We’re split this month.

I am moved, thrilled, troubled, by something new – new?? How can that be?? – every year.

I invite you to walk this Way of the Cross over these next few weeks, and to enter into the great story of our salvation. I am looking forward to participating with you in these solemn liturgies – and in the celebration of Easter that lasts through the Great Fifty Days.

************************************************************************************ LENTEN FISH DINNERS

Our Lenten fish dinners are our biggest fundraiser of the year and we would love to have you join us for the last ones of the season! Parishioner support is vitally important! We invite all to either come and volunteer (sign-ups on the bulletin board), donate desserts, or just come and eat and

enjoy fellowship! The dinners are Friday nights during Lent, from 4:30-6:30pm. We hope you will join us! More pricing information can be found on our website, www.stmatthewsliverpool.org, or on the bulletin boards.

************************************************************************************

If you wish to bring your own trivia questions to add to the mix, we welcome them too! ************************************************************************************

BREAKFAST WITH THE EASTER BUNNY

On Saturday, April 8th from 8:00-11:00am, all are welcome to join us for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny! The breakfast, hosted by Erin Straub, will fund a Girl Scout Gold Project

benefitting Clear Path for Veterans. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, and coffee. Adult cost is $6 and children 10 and under are $4. We hope you will join us to support

this great cause!

************************************************************************************ EASTER EGG HUNT

All children are invited to participate in the hunt! Bring your baskets! We will be inside in the case of bad weather.

************************************************************************************

THE OPEN TABLE FREE MEAL

St. Matthew’s is hosting our free community meal, The Open Table, on Sunday, April 30th, from 4:00-6:00pm. The menu is baked lemon chicken with noodles, dessert and drinks. Please join us and bring your friends and family! Please sign up to volunteer or plan on eating with us! (Menu subject to change) * Donations for the dessert table are greatly appreciated as well. Please mark as “Open Table”.

********************************************************************************************THE SAMARITAN CENTER:

For those of you who like to plan ahead, here are the 2017 dates: May 6, September 23 and October 28. Sign up sheets are placed on the bulletin boards for when you’re ready to sign up. Bakers welcome! Please join us! Any questions, please feel free to call Clinnie at 315-382-6689,

THE GIVING BOUTIQUE "DONATE A CARD" PROGRAM: If there is one thing we know for sure, it is that St. Matthew's parishioners are good at making cards! We have found a way to not only put those cards to good use, but also to support the Giving Boutique, The Sunshine Committee (that sends cards to parishioners) and also the outreach ministry. You can now purchase a card at the Giving Boutique and leave it in our Sunshine Committee card box there at the table, for them to send out to whomever they wish to! Now, even if you're not a card-sender yourself, you can still brighten the day of someone through the Sunshine Committee! (see Lisa Sager for more information on this committee)

Look for the Giving Boutique to be set up throughout the year during coffee hour, and at

special events. ************************************************************************************

RUMMAGE SALE!

This is a way-in-advance notice! In early September, St. Matthew’s will hold its Annual Rummage Sale, which as you all know is a big fundraiser for us here at St. Matthew’s. We ask that you kindly think of us while you are doing your spring

cleaning. Although we cannot accept items now, we hope that you will set them aside for us, and contribute to our sale when the time comes at the end of August. Thank you for thinking of us and we hope to make this year’s sale a huge success!

************************************************************************************

ST. MATTHEW’S STUDENT-BENEFIT GOLF OUTING: Mark your calendars for June 3rd for our annual student-benefit golf outing to raise money for scholarship funds for St. Matthew’s graduating seniors! We will provide more details as we get closer, but we do appreciate anyone who wants to start polishing their clubs now!

ST. MATTHEW’S SEEKS A NEW TREASURER

St. Matthew’s has been very fortunate in having Deb Smith as our Treasurer for many years. Deb and Bob have recently decided to become part time residents in Florida. Because of their change in lifestyle Deb will have to step down as our Treasurer effective in October of this year. We would like to extend an invitation to anyone who may have an interest in becoming our Treasurer to please contact one of the Wardens or any Vestry member. Deb has graciously offered to work with our new person for a couple of months prior to her leaving in October. The person replacing Deb must have a working knowledge of Accounting principals as there are monthly adjustments and year end reports that need to be compiled.

Words cannot express our gratitude for the years of hard work and dedication that Deb has given us. She has been an amazing asset to us and will be greatly missed. We wish both Bob and Deb the very best in their new venture. ************************************************************************************

DONATE ONLINE:

Many of us are online more than we’d like. We pay our bills online, make donations to charity online, and now you are able to make your recurring pledge to St. Matthew’s online, as well as one-time donations. It’s easy to do and you don’t have to remember to bring money to church to put in the plate! Please visit www.stmatthewsliverpool.org/give to find out more!

TRANSITION NEWS:

We are sure that there are many questions out there as to the transition here at St. Matthew’s, as we begin our search for a new rector. Please contact your warden’s, Bill Jones (491-3959, [email protected]) and Penny Dugas (652-3989, [email protected]) with any questions or concerns.

************************************************************************************

EASTER FLOWERS:

If you would like to have flowers on the altar for Easter, please get this form in soon! You can turn it in in the offering plate on Sunday(s).
