MegaLineNet® from LEONI is a copper system family for
all transmission classes and categories that delivers a sound,
future-proof investment. MegaLineNet® incorporates the cable
technology of the MegaLine® patch and data cables as well
as the MegaLineNet® and VarioKeystone® system solutions.
MegaLineNet® DC provides system components that are
specifically designed to meet data center requirements.
GigaLineNet®(Fiber optic connection technology)
GigaLineNet® is the name given to the range of fiber optic
cable products that allow extremely high bandwidths and
long transmission distances. The range is made up of the
GigaLine® fiber optic cables and the GigaLineNet® system
technology. The GigaLineNet® DC system components are
specifically adapted to data center requirements.
VarioLine® (For copper and fiber optic connection technology)VarioLine® stands for data center system components, which can be used in both the copper and fiber optic connection
range. The components in this catalogue are support frames for the copper modules MegaLineNet® DClink and the fiber optic
modules GigaLineNet® DClink and GigaLineNet® DC MTP®/MPO module with the corresponding accessories as well as cable

The data center is frequently referred to as the heart
of a business, as it is from here that production and
administration processes are controlled. Failures lead to
catastrophic consequences that can threaten a company’s
very survival. Availability must be guaranteed virtually
24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Reliability is influenced to a major extent by the cabling.

Enormous energy requirements, greater environmental

Reducing costs
Requirements cannot be viewed in isolation. For example,
ecological optimisation can lead to a reduction in costs, while
expensive, industrially prefabricated components reduce
installation and testing times and thus cut costs incurred
as a result of downtime.
Single cables – laid-worn out-forgotten
Not only is the laying of new cables difficult and time-consuming,
but it is also virtually impossible to remove old cables, with
the result that they often end up simply being cut out or left in
place. This means that there is no possibility of reuse or recovery.
An unobstructed flow of cooling air is out of the question in
this case. Only a higher volumetric flow rate and/or a lower
air temperature – both of which involve additional costs and
environmental impact – can help here.
Multi-cable – laid-used-reused
Pre-assembled multi-cable solutions produce a clean, clear
cabling layout, which not only contributes to simpler, faster
cabling but also improves cooling air circulation. The cables and
components used are also RoHS-compliant.
A small number of multi-cables laid quickly and cleanly
guarantee an unobstructed flow of cooling air.

Generic communications cabling systems are defined in
standards EN 50173-1 and ISO/IEC 11801. In addition, specific
requirements for data centers are defined in EN 50173-5
and ISO/IEC 24764.
The cabling used in data centers consists of three
subsystems: ■ Network access cabling ■ Main distribution cabling ■ Zone distribution cabling
Fiber types
When using MM fibers, the requirements of class OF-300, using
OM3 fibers, must be met as a minimum. Single-mode fibers
must comply with category OS1 or OS2, whereby OS1 fibers
do not meet the attenuation requirements in each case.

Standards
Standards
The max. extension is 2,000 m. In data centers the main
distribution cabling is frequently designed using fiber optic
technology, while in smaller networks the external network
interface (ENI) is connected directly to the zone distributor (ZD).
The standards describe various models for flexible and fixed
connections in and between the subsystems.
The cabling of the main and zone distribution must, according
to ISO/IEC 24764, meet the requirements of class EA for copper
technology and transmission classes OF-300, OF-500 and
OF-2000 for fiber optic technology as a minimum.

VarioLine® Consolidation points
In office cabling (EN 50173-2), consolidation points (CPs)
between floor distributor (FD) and telecommunication outlet
(TO) offer extremely flexible solutions for rapidly changing office
configurations. The CP can be installed in raised floors, inserted
ceilings, columns or ducts. From there, flexible cables (CP cables)
lead to the data outlets at the workplace.
In data centers, CPs as local distribution points (LDP) can provide
an additional patching option between zone distributor (ZD)
and equipment outlet (EO) (EN 50173-5). The CPs are connected to
the EO using flexible pre-assembled cables fitted with jacks and
connectors, known as consolidation point cables.
The robust VarioLine® CPs are made of zinc-plated sheet steel and
are available in three sizes for 6, 12 and 24 channels. The modular
structure ensures that most Cu and FO systems are suitable for
universal use. Different module panels for the copper and FO
connection systems from LEONI are available for VarioLine® CP
housings. The easy snap-in installation of the housing cover
on the floor or zone distributor side makes troublesome screwing
and the use of special tools unnecessary. The patch side is covered
by a hinged cover with a strip bush as dust protection. The incoming
cables and the CP/patch cords can be held by cable ties. The housing
can be earthed if necessary.
The CP cables pass through the raised floor via the necessary floor
outlets which are installed in the base plate. VarioLine® CP floor
outlets can be closed flush with the floor when they are not required
and are set upright to pass cables through. The cover then also
protects the cables as they come out.

High-speed connections
To meet the extensive requirements for fast point-to-point
data transmission applications in modern data centers,
LEONI offers fully pre-assembled high-speed cables that exceed
the requirements of the IEEE 802.3-2005 Type 10GBase-CX4
standard and of the IBTA (InfiniBand Trade Association) standard.
Compared with conventional CX4 and InfiniBand® cable solutions,
LEONI patch chords offer improved electromagnetic compatibility,
which is achieved using special dual screening. This technology
ensures interference-free and complete data transmission across
the entire transmission path, right up as far as the connector.
LEONI ParaLink® cables
Thanks to the use of high-quality LEONI ParaLink® cables,
the systems have typically low attenuation characteristics
at transmission distances of up to 17 m (10GBase-CX4) and a data
transmission rate of 10 Gb/s per channel.
CX4 patch cords
LEONI CX4 and InfiniBand® patch cords are manufactured semi-
automatically. Manual production has been reduced in order to
achieve a high level of uniformity in the manufacturing process.
EDS patch cords can be used in data centers for cabling switches,
routers and servers in Storage Area Networks (SAN) or High
Performance Computing (HPC), as well as in mobile phone
base stations.
