What are leopards ?

Leopards are mammals, and members of the cat family.They are in the group of cats called the ‘ big cats There ’. are about20 different sub-species (like breeds, or kinds) of leopard.

Leopards are about 2 mitres long from the nose to the tip of the tail. Their coats are golden-yellow with black rosette markings. The markings are not only on the fur , but on the skin as well. Black leopards , some times incorrectly called black panthers, have black fur and black rosette markings that can be seen faintly when the cat is in strong sunlight.
