“Barbara Woolworth Hutton (November 14, 1912 – May 11, 1979) was an Americandebutante, socialite, heiress and philanthropist. She was dubbed the "Poor Little Rich Girl," firstwhen she was given a lavish and expensive debutante ball in 1930, amid the Great Depression,and later due to a notoriously troubled private life.

Heiress to the retail tycoon Frank Winfield Woolworth, Hutton was one of the wealthiest womenin the world. (Wikipedia)

BARBARA HUTTON (1912-1979) AND HER SEVEN HUSBANDS

1933: Alexis Mdivani, a self-styled Georgian prince, divorced 1935. - Her first husband,Alexis Mdivani, used her great wealth to his advantage. They were married on June 22, 1933, in the RussianOrthodox Church in Paris, France. Barbara's father provided a $1 million dowry. Alexis and Barbara divorcedin March 1935. Alexis Mdivani had previously married Louise Astor Van Alen, a member of the Astor family,on May 15, 1931. They divorced on December 1, 1932. .

1935: Count Kurt Heinrich Eberhard Erdmann Georg von Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow, divorced 1938. - Kurt Haugwitz-Reventlow, with whom she had her only child, a son namedLance, was her second husband Reventlow dominated her through verbal and physical abuse, which escalated toa savage beating that left her hospitalized and put him in jail. He also persuaded her to give up her Americancitizenship, and to take his native Danish citizenship for tax purposes, which she did in December 1937 in a NewYork federal court. At this point she lapsed into drug abuse. Hutton then developed anorexia, which would plagueher for the rest of her life and would leave her unable to have further children.

1942: Cary Grant, divorced 1945. - As World War II threatened in 1939, Hutton moved toCalifornia. She was active during the war, giving money to assist the Free French Forces and donating her yachtto the Royal Navy. Using her high-profile image to sell war bonds, she received positive publicity after being deridedby the press as a result of her marriage scandals. In Hollywood, she met and married Cary Grant, on July 8,1942, one of the biggest movie stars of the day. The married couple was dubbed "Cash and Cary". Grant didnot need her money nor did he need to benefit from her name, and he appeared to genuinely care for Hutton.Nevertheless, this marriage also failed. Grant did not seek or receive any money in their divorce settlement.

1947: Prince Igor Troubetzkoy, divorced 1951. - Hutton left California and moved to Paris,France, before acquiring a palace in Tangier. Hutton then began dating Igor Troubetzkoy, an expatriate Russianprince of very limited means but world renown. In the spring of 1948 in Zurich, Switzerland, she married him.That year, he was the driver of the first Ferrari to ever compete in Grand Prix motor racing when he raced in theMonaco Grand Prix, and later won the Targa Florio. He ultimately filed for divorce. Hutton's subsequent attemptedsuicide made headlines around the world. Labeled by the press as the "Poor Little Rich Girl", her life madegreat copy and the media exploited her for consumption by a fascinated public.

1953: Porfirio Rubirosa, divorced 1954. -Her next marriage, lasting 53 days (December 30, 1953– February 20, 1954), was to Dominican diplomat Porfirio Rubirosa, a notorious international playboy whomeanwhile continued his affair with actress Zsa Zsa Gabor. In a scathing review of the marriage ceremony in theMilwaukee Sentinel, Phyllis Battelle coined the oft-quoted phrase: "The bride, for her fifth wedding,wore black and carried a scotch-and-soda."

1955: Baron Gottfried Alexander Maximilian Kurt von Cramm, divorced 1959. -Her next husband was an old friend, German tennis star Baron Gottfried von Cramm. Cramm represented Germanyduring the rise of the Nazi party to power in the 1930s. The Nazi regime attempted to exploit his appearance andskill as a symbol of Aryan supremacy, but he refused to identify with Nazism. He was persecuted as a homosexualby the German government and was jailed briefly in 1938. Despite his enormous popularity with the public, on5 March 1938, Gottfried von Cramm was arrested by the German government and tried on the charge of ahomosexual relationship with Manasse Herbst, a young Galician Jewish actor and singer, who had appeared inthe 1926 silent film Der Sohn des Hannibal. After being hospitalized for a nervous collapse after his arrest, on14 March he was sentenced to one year's imprisonment Cramm admitted the relationship, which had lasted from1931 until 1934 and had begun shortly before he married his first wife. Herbst moved to Palestine in 1936.This marriage also ended in divorce. He died in an automobile crash near Cairo, Egypt, in 1976.

1964: Pierre Raymond Doan, divorced 1966. - In Tangier, Hutton met her seventh husband,Prince Pierre Raymond Doan Vinh na Champassak. The civil ceremony was per formed in Jiutepec, Morelos,Mexico by Mayor Celso Castre jon in the garden of Miss Hut ton's $2 million Japanese‐style home.The prince, apainter and writer, born in South Viet nam, was a French national. This marriage, too, was short-lived. RaymondDoan was an adopted member of the former royal family of the Kingdom of Champasak and a Buddhist.

BARBARA HUTTON’S ONLY CHILD

1936: Lawrence "Lance" Graf von Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow, died 1972. -Hutton had one child, Lance Reventlow, with her second husband, but Reventlow's parents' marriage, Hutton'ssecond of seven, was tumultuous and did not last; after the couple divorced in 1938, Reventlow became the subjectof a bitter custody battle. In 1944, Reventlow's father was awarded custody until he reached school age, afterwhich his mother would gain custody. Before his father was to relinquish custody, he sent Reventlow to Canada.Hutton regained custody of Reventlow in 1945. Reventlow was largely estranged from his father until the Count'sdeath in 1969.

In 1948, at age 12, Reventlow was introduced to the world of Grand Prix motor racing when his mother marriedPrince Igor Troubetzkoy, who won the Targa Florio that year. In his teenage years, Reventlow's money affordedhim the latest in exotic cars, which led to his involvement in motor racing.

In Hollywood, Reventlow became friends with fellow auto enthusiast James Dean and competed in club eventsaround California. On September 30, 1955, he was one of the last people to speak to Dean when they met ontheir way to an auto race in Salinas, California. Reventlow said he had coffee with Dean at a restaurantapproximately thirty minutes before Dean was killed in an automobile accident while driving his Porsche 550Spyder in Cholame, California.

Winfield House is a mansion set in 12 acres (4.9 ha) of grounds in Regent's Park, the second largest private gardenin central London, after that of Buckingham Palace. Since 1955, it has been the official residence of the United StatesAmbassador to the Court of St. James's. The first house on the site was Hertford Villa, the largest of the eight originallybuilt in the park as part of John Nash's development scheme. The actual house was designed by Decimus Burton forthe notorious Regency rake, Francis Seymour-Conway, 3rd Marquess of Hertford, who used it for orgies. The villawas damaged by fire in 1936 and was subsequently purchased by the American heiress Barbara Hutton, who demolishedit and had a mansion built in the Neo-Georgian style, designed by Leonard Rome Guthrie.

Maharani Sita Devi Sahib of Baroda, born to Telugu family on 12 May 1917 in Madras, India. She was knownas the "Indian Wallis Simpson". She was a daughter of the Raja of Kashipur, a zamindari. At age 13, she marriedKaramjit Singh, a younger son of the Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala.

She was fluent in several European languages and was considered to have a strong sense of style.[1] She was a musefor several photographers from Cecil Beaton to Man Ray.

Sita was one of the very few wealhier persons than Barbara and Marjorie in the world.

In 1972, Reventlow was seeking real-estate developers as partners to build a ski resort in Aspen, Colorado, where hehad a home. He was an experienced pilot, with thousands of hours, rated fully for IFR on multi-engine planes, but onJuly 24, 1972 Reventlow was a passenger, scouting locations for real estate in a Cessna 206. The pilot was aninexperienced 27-year-old student who flew into a blind canyon and stalled the aircraft while trying to turn around.

The plane plunged to the ground, killing all aboard.

The death of her only son in an air crash in 1972 sent Hutton into a state of despair.

Los ricos también lloran ("The rich also cry") is a popular telenovela produced in Mexico in 1979, starringVerónica Castro, Rogelio Guerra and Rocío Banquells. Castro also sang the theme Aprendí a Llorar ("I learnedto cry"), a song written by Lolita de la Colina. The telenovela was produced by Chilean Valentín Pimstein andCarlos Romero, it was directed by Rafael Banquells.

Los Ricos También Lloran was aired in 1991-1992 in the Soviet Union and post-Soviet states. It wasshown on one of the central TV channels and became the second ever non-Soviet TV series aired in the SovietUnion, after Escrava Isaura. It was watched virtually by the whole population and became for a long time areference point, with multiple traces in Soviet and post-Soviet popular culture.

Plot : Mariana Villareal finds herself homeless after her father dies and her stepmother takes over their hacienda.She escapes to Mexico City and a priest asks Don Alberto Salvatierra (a millionaire) to care for the young girl.

Don Alberto takes pride in educating the girl but his own son Luis Alberto (a womanizer) tries to seduce her butthe father orders him to stay away from her. Esther, Luis Alberto's cousin, moves into the Salvatierra mansion withthe hopes of marrying him. Luis Alberto finds Mariana's charm to be the reason for him to change and falls inlove with her.
