North West premier Supra Mahumapelo said he is not losing sleep over revelations of an attempt on his life and pointed out that he is currently preoccupied with his duties as the head of the provincial government. A Mahikeng councillor belonging to the ANC – Gaasite Legalatladi – recently appeared before the court to answer to charges of plotting to murder Mahumapelo. Legalatladi, who was granted R3 000 bail, will make her second appearance in court in 28 January 2014 for trial. Speaking about the allegations in Mahikeng, Mahumapelo vowed that he would not be
distracted from his duties by those who are plotting to kill him. “The residents must allow the law to take its course,” Mahumapelo said. “I would like to urge all the people of the North West to ignore this incident. We must not be distracted from our mandate by nocturnal activities of people who go about plotting the demise of others at night,” he added. “We will continue doing our work without fear or favour and leave this case in the hands of the police who are carrying out their investigations,” he added. The Hawks arrested the councillor on Tuesday last week for conspiring to murder
Mahumapelo and Mahikeng local municipality mayor Gosiame Seatlholo. She allegedly approached a traditional healer on November 21 asking for help in killing Mahumapelo and Seatlholo using muti. The healer reluctantly agreed to help her, and told police of her intentions on November 28. She was arrested in Mmasebudule village, Zeerust during her second consultation at the traditional healer’s kraal at the village. In the past years, ANC politicians from the North West province have either been murdered or survived attempts in their lives in cases that police link to the infi ghting for power within the party’s corridors of infl uence.

An illegal job scam is negatively affecting the image of the Madibeng Local Municipality in Brits. The local government body’s head of communications – Lebogang Tsogang – has revealed that a certain man only identifi ed as “John Martins” is duping unsuspecting residents by claiming he is a manager at the municipality. “He is selling jobs to the community members and this is affecting us in a bad way,” Tsogang said.Tsogang revealed that “John Martins” is taking advantage of advertisements in the local newspapers where people seek employment. “He then requests the people to do a money transfer where they will be guaranteed employed at the municipality as cleaners,” explained Tsogang. Tsogang further said three people were spotted by the municipality’s security staff looking foe “John Martins”.
“They told the security personnel that they had come to commence their work as cleaners as they had paid him money. They were assisted by the Public Safety and Security Division on that illegal scam to open a case of fraud at Brits SAPS,” she said. “The municipality would like to urge our communities to never give anyone money for job because it is illegal and against the constitution of the country. The municipality will also do an internal investigation on this matter to get the culprit that is using the name of the municipality to commit fraud,” she further explained.
Anyone with any information regarding this matter is kindly requested to assist the police and the municipality on the investigation. Alternatively, they can contact the Madibeng Local Municipality on 012 318 9542.

BOJANALA PLATINUM DISTRICT Municipality Festive
Message
As the festive season approaches, the Executive Mayor of the Bojanala Platinum District
Municipality – Councilor Louis Diremelo – would like to appeal to all residents to approach the upcoming holiday celebrations with caution. Each year, during the festive season, the number of road fatalities on the major roads within the North West province
increases and this has been a worrying trend as precious lives are needlessly lost due to negligence and carelessness. Councilor Diremelo urged motorists and road users in general to strictly observe tra c laws and exercise extreme caution and restraint when using the roads. Drunken driving is regarded as one of the major contributory factors of road accidents and fatalities in the province and the country at large, followed by speed, fatigue, driver and vehicle tness.“We would like to urge all our motorists to adhere to the road regulations and to drive carefully. Our drivers must value the lives of the people that they will be transporting. Please drive within the permitted speed limit so that we can all arrive alive,” Councilor Diremelo said. e executive mayor also took time to re ect on what has been a very eventful
and challenging year for the district and the country in general. He pointed out that violence against women and children remains one of the greatest crimes that the district is grappling with. “ e deplorable incidents of gender based violence we continue to experience even during this season of kindness should be condemned. All of us must unite in action and intensify our collective e ort in support of the anti-rape campaign to expose perpetrators to eradicate the scourge of rape and abuse,” he said. “As we prepare to celebrate Christmas and recharge for the tasks that still lie ahead of us in the new year, we call on all of our people to remember that this season of peace, goodwill and sharing also presents us with an opportunity to expand our giving encompassing the lonely and needy.
“We should celebrate it by giving the light of hope and love to those who need them most, our orphans, widows and our elderly. As we prepare to celebrate the end of a productive year and recharge for what will undoubtedly be a hectic year, let do so responsibly mindful that more advances still lie ahead for us to score and celebrate as part of our legacy, history and rich heritage,” he said.

Coaching a football team in the South African topfl ight League can be one of the most unpredictable and insecure jobs. Yet, Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese is slowly making his name as one of the rising talented coaches in the country at a time when a number of his peers have been fi nding it diffi cult to hang onto their positions. About seven coaches have already lost their jobs this season – a confi rmation of the unpredictable nature of the job. After winning two cup competitions last season – the Telkom Knockout and the MTN8 cups – Freese has now set his sights on consolidating the rise of Platinum Stars as one of the emerging forces of South African football. Taking over from Cavin Johnson two seasons ago, Freese is well known for his attacking style and desire to win all the homes matches that his team plays. Having been with the club for a long time, Freese is well aware of the culture of an institution that means so much to the people of Rustenburg and the North West province. “Football has become my life. I always strive to be the best that I can as a coach. I have continued to learn and improve myself because you need to be always aware of the new developments in
coaching,” he said during an interview with Leseding News. Freese has been with Platinum Stars since the merger between Mapate Silver Stars and Highlands Park over a decade ago. A left-sided fullback or winger with Dynamos (Ladysmith), Leicester City (Johannesburg), Orlando Pirates and Benoni United, he began his coaching career in the development system with Bidvest Wits. He was there for seven years before joining Highlands Park and subsequently Platinum Stars. Armed with a Safa Level II badge, Freese has overseen the likes of Daniel ‘Sailor’ Tshabalala, Michael Khaile, Bafana Tshabalala, Thuso Phala, Allan Thomas and Bradley Grobler. He has also led the Platinum Stars Under-19 side to a brace of victories in the SuperSport Cup, as well as the plate competition at the 2009 Metropolitan Premier Cup. Freese had a stint in charge of Stars as co-coach with Thierry Mulonzo between the departure of Owen da Gama and the arrival of Miguel Gamondi in 2007, and then again with Cavin Johnson after Da Gama left the club for a second time in March 2012.
He was appointed head coach on a permanent basis for the 2013/14 season when Johnson left to join SuperSport United. “Coaching in South Africa is a very risky job because clubs can dismiss you in a short space of time. You have to produce the
results quickly or else you could fi nd yourself without a job.
“The coach has its challenges but there are also the rewards
that come when you
realize g o o d results. The idea is bring out the best out of your players. “Motivating them and making them believe in themselves is more important than any other strategies that you might come up with,” he adds. But does having played the game help? “Being a former player certainly gives you a better perspective when you are analysing the game. However, there are some coaches that do well without having been former players. The most important thing is how you manage your players,” he said.

Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has admitted that selecting the squad that will represent the country in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations is likely to cause him headaches as several players are making a strong case to be included in the national team. Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 victory over Ivory Coast in the Nelson Mandela Challenge recently has brought to the fore the talent of players that have previosly failed to make it into the national team. With the date of that match falling outside the Fifa calendar and with many clubs refusing to allow their players to take part in the match against Ivory Coast, Mashaba used a virtually new cast of players. Playing against a formidable Ivory Coast team, Mashaba’s charges returned the faith that their coach showed in
them by dominating and winning the match, which is played to honour South Africa’s late, first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela. The players - a number of whom were playing for the national team for the very first time - held their nerve to win the encounter, and the trophy that comes with it. The match was also being used by Mashaba to begin his preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations, where Bafana will attempt to win the continent’s premier tournamnet for the secodn time in their history since first winning it in 1996. Mashaba admitted that the performance of some of the players that were not part of the team’s qualification campaign had perfomed above expectations. “Yes, the team played very well, this was a good performance,” Mashaba said. “It will be headache for us now to select the final team that will represent the country during the Africa Cup of Nations.“
