Millennium Development Goals: The MDGs are eight goals that have been established by the United Nations to improve conditions around around the world by 2015.

United Nations: The United Nations is an international organization that works in the area of peace and security, development,

human rights, humanitarian affairs and

“Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education”Out of the nearly 800,000 Guatemalan children who do not have access to school, 2/3 of them are girlsGirls from poor homes are 3 times less likely to go to school than girls from wealthier families.The ability for girls to attend school is also affected by how far away the school is from the home

Reduce the death of children under 5 years of age by 2/3“In 2008, 10,000 fewer children died each day than in 1990”Efforts to treat and prevent pneumonia and diarrhea, as well as helping families better understand nutrition have helped with this cause“Under-five mortality remains high in Southern Asia”

deforestation is occurring in Oceania, South-Eastern Asia and Latin America

Tree planting programs have helped in this area

“The number of species facing extinction is growing by the day, especially in developing areas.”

Providing safe drinking water is also part of this goal
