Lesson 2

1-1042 1

I’m too tired to take another tour

group today. Maybe I should

quit.

Use the code to find some hidden help for these people. Then look up the verses. Draw lines to match the problems to a verse that will help.

I’ve got to do a

report on this. I don’t think I

can do it.

We’ll have a test on Egypt.

I’m afraid I’ll fail.

Since our last Bible story . . . . . . 80 years have passed! This is what has happened to Moses.

Moses was raised by the daughter of Pharaoh in Egypt.

When he was grown up, Moses knew he was an Israelite. He saw how badly the Israelites were treated by the Egyptians.

Once he tried to help an Israelite man who was being beaten by an Egyptian. Moses ended up killing the Egyptian. Moses had to run for his life.

He ran to the desert of Midian. He got married. He took care of sheep.

Moses has now spent 40 years in the Midian desert. One day, he is taking care of his sheep near a mountain called Horeb. He sees something strange . . .

Moses: That bush over there is on fire. But why doesn’t it burn up? I’ll go over and see.

God: Moses, Moses!

Moses: Here I am.

God: I am the Lord God.

Moses: Oh, Lord! I’m afraid to look at You!

God: I have seen My people suffer in Egypt. I have heard them cry because they are slaves. Now I will help them. I want you to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. Go to Pharaoh, the powerful ruler of all the Egyptians. Tell him that you will take My people out of Egypt.

Moses: Me? Who am I? Why would Pharaoh listen to me?

God: I will be with you.

Moses: But what if the Israelites don’t believe me? What if they won’t follow me?

God: Tell them I sent you. Tell them My name: _________________________.

Read Exodus 3:14.

Moses: But what if the leaders of Israel still don’t believe that You sent me?

God: I will give you amazing signs to do. Then they will believe you.

Moses: Lord, I’ve never been a good speaker. Are you sure this is a good idea?

God: I’m the one who made your mouth. I will teach you what to say.

Moses: Lord, please send someone else to do this.

God: I am sending _______________

____________________________ to go with you. He is a good speaker. The two of you can go to Pharaoh together. With My help, you can do more than you think.

Read Exodus 4:14.

Moses: All right, Lord. With your help, I will go.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

to the Book of Exodus. First look in the contents for the page number. Book names are also printed at the top of every page.

to chapter 3. Look for the big numbers along the left side of each page. Turn pages until you come to chapter 3.

to verse 1. The first verse of a chapter doesn’t have a small number. Look for the small numbers for other verses. They are in the paragraphs.

Try using the HOP-SKIP-JUMP plan to find the three verses below. Circle the lily pad as you find each verse.

Exodus

2 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 Romans 8:28 Joshua 1:9

Finding a verse in the Bible is as easy as HOP-SKIP-JUMP. Start with the table of contents in your own Bible.

HOP to the book in the Bible. (Look for the page number.) SKIP to the chapter. (That’s the big number.) JUMP to the verse. (That’s the small number.)

Now let’s find this week’s Bible story. It starts at Exodus 3:1.
