Case Study 1

Mary is 87 years old. She has suffered Parkinson's.

She used to eat on her own however she has shaking

tremors in her hands which has prevented her from

eating.

Promoting Independence Case study 1Weighted cutlery or anti-shake spoons

Weighted cutlery are used in health and care settings.

They are heavier than normal cutlery therefore reducing the amount of shaking from a persons hand.

he has suffered a serious car accident and has

currently bed bound as he can’t walk.

Susan is 70 years old. She is a Muslim. She has had

to move to full time care in a care home because she

has had a stroke and is paralysed one side of her

body. She wants to follow all traditions of Muslim

such as follow ramadan and eat halal meet only.
