The Life Cycle

The embryonic root is the first part to emerge from the seed.

After about a day, the two cotyledons (now called the seed leaves) appear above the ground, coming off of the stem. They become green and take on the job of producing food.

Then, the True leaves develop and are responsible for making food for the plant. Soon after, the buds will appear.

Seed LeavesDuring day 2 or 3, the root system and the cotyledons split and are now turning green. They continue to grow and make food for the plant until the true leaves

appear.

TRUE LEAVESFrom days 4 to 7, the true leaves continue to emerge and grow at a rapid pace. They have wavy, irregular edges, and a rougher texture.

Eventually the seed leaves will wither, die, and drop off.

BUDSSoon after the true leaves develop, the buds

develop. They will appear at the top of the stem in a cluster. The buds are closed tightly and are greenish-yellow in color.
