    Our parents consider their marriage as a

    very important milestone in their relationship.

    Their marriage marked their love for each

    other. God wanted from the very beginning to

    make marriage part of our lives.

    God created human

    beings to love andbe loved. He created

    the first human

    beings, male andfemale, different but

    equal and He found

    it very good.(Genesis 1:27)

    In this way, God blessed the first manand woman to have children and to

    To love is the most basic and innate call for

    man. That is why God created a suitable

    partner for each other. God willed and wrote

    at the beginning of human history that man

    and woman should love each other. (CCC

    1604)

    As in Genesis 2:24, That is

    why a man leaves his father

    and mother and clings to hiswife and the two of them

    become one body.

    (CFC 1883).This does not speak of mere

    physical or psychological unity.

    It is about the promise of manand woman to think about and

    care for each other. (CFC

    C. HOW DID JESUS

    INSTITUTE THESACRAMENT OF

    MATRIMONY?

    When Jesus came, He elevated the

    love of a man and a woman for each

    other in the level of a sacrament. He

    said, so they are no longer two but

    one flesh. Therefore, what God hasjoined together, no human being must

    separate. (Matthew 19:6)

    Jesus made Matrimony as the

    sacrament in which a man and a

    woman become husband and wife and

    promise to be faithful to each other for

    the rest of their lives.

    Jesus furthermore showed the importance

    of a marriage by attending the Wedding

    Feast at Cana (John 2:1ff)

    Marriage has been an

    effective sign of Jesuslove and presence. Jesus

    love therefore is made

    concretely present in thelove of a husband and

    wife. This is what the

    Church celebrates in theSacrament of Matrimony.

    Jesus blesses the union of a baptized

    man and a baptized woman throughthe Sacrament of Matrimony. In this

    sacrament, He offers them special

    grace and strength to help them growin love and share this love with their

    children (CCC 1641).
