Facts:

The period when the megalithic monuments were constructed is known as megalithic period.

The megalithic monuments, ancient Tamil songs, Tamil inscriptions were the major source of information.

Megalithic age is also known as Iron Age.

The Deep South Indian parts are the ancient tamilakam.

It is the Tamil speaking areas of south India which the historians referred as Tamilakam.

The practice of burying the remains of the diseased by placing them in an urn is called urn burials.

Concept: Tamilakam, megalithic age, iron age

PRE-REQUISITES

The students do not have any previous knowledge about tamilakam and the megalithic age.

INTRODUCTION

The teacher enters into the class and wishing the students and accepting the wishes of the students then

enter into a friendly conversation between the students and creating an atmosphere to learn. Then ask in which

state they live and which is the capital of the state. The students replied to the question and then ask in the past

Anyone of you know about Tamilakam .It refers to the Sangam period territory of old south Indian royalties covering modern Tamilnadu, Kerala and southern parts of Andhrapradesh and Karnataka.Which are the places? Ok, the historians used this to refer the tamil speaking regions of India including Kerala and Tamilnadu.It is a single cultural area having a common language. Anyone of you know which is the language? Yes, then shows a chart regarding one of the culture of ancient Tamilakam through a song.

One of the main practices of tamilakam is the practice of burying. These urn burials are known in different name according to the shape and nature. There are different sources in which historians got to understand the tamilakam.

Anyone of you know about urn burials. The practice of burying the remains of the deceased by placing them it in a big burn is called urn burials otherwise it is called Nannangadi (BB)

This custom was prevailed in ancient Tamilakam. Locally available stones are used for this. Anyone of you knows about any of the name of these urn burials. Ok, these are known in different names like stone circle, dolmen, cist, rock chamber, thoppikkallu(tomb stone) Kudakkallu(umbrella stone), sarchophagus, Menhir were the remarkable among them.
