Goal: You must be able to raise the group’s answer correctly in order to be rank as first. After the game, the group’s ranking will be summed up and the group who got the lowest score wins the game and the group who got the lowest score loses the game. Procedure: The class will be divided into three groups. Each group must have a representative. The representative will hold the illustration board and chalk given to him/ her. The representative will be the one to hold and raisethe group’s answer the moment they answer the questions correctly.

Motivation ` What comes in your mind if you hear the word “Complicated”?How about “Complex”?

A. Activity

I Know How to Follow Instruction Objectives: Use the given activity to solve the complex fraction by following what it is said and putting the outcome of the instructions on the manila paper what

Material: activity sheet and manila paper Procedure: The class will be divided into three groups. Each group will be given an activity sheet with a questionnaire. They must follow the instructions to be able to solve the problem. The activity will only be given 15 minutes to finish the task.

Sample Problem: Instruction no.1 Follow the instruction carefully to solve the problem.

1. Write 26

and draw a bar line below it.

2. Write 14

below the number line.

3. Invert the reciprocal of the denominator.4. Place the reciprocal of the denominator beside the numerator of the

complex fraction then multiply.5. Simplify.

Instruction no. 2Follow the instruction carefully to solve the problem.

1. Write 26

and draw a bar line below it.

2. Write 14

below the number line.

3. Find the LCD of the denominators of the numerator and the denominator of the complex fraction.

4. Multiply the LCD to the numerators then simplify.

B. Analysis1. Which part of fraction is the numerator? The denominator?2. In solving problem no. 1, what did you do in order for you to solve the

problem?3. In solving problem no. 2, what did you do in order for you to solve the

problem?4. Did you get the same answer even if they are different instructions?5. What is the difference between the two instructions?6. Which instruction is easy to use in solving the complex fraction? (Answer

may vary)

C. Abstraction1. What is a complex fraction?

Complex fraction is a fraction that has a rational expression either in the numerator, the denominator, or both.

2. How do you simplify complex fraction? What are the methods? Method 1: Write the numerator as one fraction and the denominator as one fraction. Then invert the denominator then simplify.

Method 2: Multiply the numerator and the denominator of the complex fraction by the LCD of the fractions within the numerator and the denominator. Then simplify.
