WARM UP

1. “Homework check” LO#( 5 minutes)

a. Ask Ss to open their homework and distribute the key.

b. Ask them to do peer check and while they are checking silently walk around and observe them.

c. Write down the major errors Ss make and discuss after they finish.

2. “Subway stories” LO# ( 5 minutes)

a. Ask Ss whether they like subways or not. Why?

b. Ask them to tell the class about their first experience in the subway.

c. If there are students who know any interesting or funny stories which happened in the subway let them tell their stories to the whole class.

New Information

1. “Subway hero” LO# ( 10 minutes)

a. Ask Ss to open their SB on page 88, look at the picture and tell what the text is going to be about according to them.

b. Ask Ss to read the text and copy out all the unknown words.

c. Explain the words after they finish.

d. Now ask them to open page 89 and complete exercise 1d. Allocate 5 minutes to this.

e. When they finish, ask random Ss to read and correct if there are any errors.

f. Now ask Ss to get divided into groups of “A” and “B”.

g. Ask group “A” to make questions based on the text for group “B” and ask group “B” to do the same.

h. The group that has more correct answers wins.

2. “If you learn it, I will be happy” LO# ( 10 minutes)

a. Tell Ss that today they are going to learn first conditional.

b. Write the following sentences on the board:

If it rains tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.

If my father doesn’t buy me a bike for my birthday, I will be very unhappy.

c. Tell that in this case there is a real possibility of rain tomorrow and in this condition I will stay at home.

d. Explain the second sentence in the same way.

e. Tell Ss that first conditional is used to talk about actions/events in the future which are likely to happen or have a real possibility of happening.

f. Tell Ss that in case of first conditional we use If + present + will + verb

g. Now ask random Ss to make sentences.

PRACTICE/COLLABORATION

1. “Card game” LO# (15 minutes)

a. Divide the class into two or three groups and distribute each group a set of “If” card and a set of “Action” cards. (See Appendix 1)

b. Tell Ss to match an “If” card with an “Action” card.

c. When they finish matching, ask each S to make a sentence using conditionals and two cards.

d. For example, if the picture shows the person staying up late the S might say, “If I stay up late, I will feel tired the next day.”

e. Continue until all the Ss participate.

2. “Board game” LO# ( 15 minutes)

a. Ask Ss to get into pairs and distribute the second handouts. (See Appendix 2)

b. Tell them they need to throw the dice and move accordingly.

c. When they land on a square, their pair needs to ask them the question on the box starting with “what will you do if…” phrase.

d. The S must answer the question using the first conditional.

e. If a student makes a mistake while answering he/she must go one back to their previous square.
