ASMP www.asmp.org The American Society of
Media Photographers (ASMP) is a trade organi-
zation that promotes photographers’ rights, edu-
cates photographers in better business practices,
and produces business publications for photogra-
phers. It was founded in 1944 by a handful of the
world’s leading photojournalists, and today it is
recognized internationally for its leadership role.
ASMP has over 6,000 members, including many of
the world’s greatest photographers, in 39 chapters
nationwide.
The America Society of Picture Professionals
www.aspp.com is a community of image experts
committed to sharing their experience and knowl-
edge throughout the industry. We provide profes-
sional networking and educational opportunities.
If you create, edit, research, license, manage or
publish pictures, ASPP is the place for you. Since
1966, ASPP has sought to bring together the dif-
ferent groups of image professionals through its
educational programs, chapter meetings, quarterly
magazine The Picture Professional, and regular
emailing of announcements, job postings, etc. At

issue of the magazine with certain archived articles
about the business of photography, book reviews,
chapter programs, a Find a Pro link to its members,

Art Directors Club www.adcglobal.org Founded
in 1920, the Art Directors Club is the premier orga-
nization for integrated media. As an international
creative collective and self-funding nonprofi t, the
ADC’s mission is to promote the highest standards
of excellence in visual communications through
programs in the converging fi elds of advertising,
interactive media, and design.
PACA www.pacaoffi ce.org The Picture Archive
Council of America, is the trade organization in North
America that represents the vital interests of stock
archives and others who license images for com-
mercial reproduction. Founded in 1951, our mem-
bership includes 100 companies in North America
and over 50 International Affi liate Members.
PACA’s Mission Statement is “to foster and pro-
tect the interests of the picture archive community
through advocacy, education and communication.”
Accordingly, they work to develop useful Industry
standards and promote ethical business practices;
actively advocate copyright protection; collect and
disseminate timely information; and take an active
role in the picture community by building relation-
ships with organizations from related industries.

PLUS www.useplus.com The PLUS Coalition (Picture
Licensing Universal System) is an international non-
profi t umbrella organization, dedicated to building
bridges between communities involved in creating,
distributing, archiving and using digital images, by
creating standards to communicate rights infor-
mation associated with visual works. Stock photo
agencies, ad agencies, advertisers, design fi rms,
photographers, illustrators, publishers, museums,
libraries, and their associations, from 26 countries
have worked together to develop the PLUS Stan-
dards. All of these communities are stakeholders in
the Coalition, and work cooperatively to ensure that
the Standards are designed to serve the interests of
all involved organizations and individuals.
SAA www.stockartistsalliance.org The Stock Artists
Alliance is the only trade association dedicated to
the business interests of professional stock photog-
raphers. SAA supports its worldwide membership
with substantial information resources and ongoing
advocacy initiatives. We are dedicated to building
positive, mutually benefi cial relationships with our
partners in the image licensing industry.

news and information magazine for and about the
professional design community including graphic
