The Operation Rebuild: Learn, Play, Grow Outside!campaign aims to fund the creation & maintenance of a new playground and outdoor classroom at Pond Cove Elementary School.

PROJECT HISTORY

Our plans embody more than just a new play structure. This project is an opportunity to create a space for outdoor nature-based play and learning for children in our community.

The exciting design includes:• An upgraded and expanded outdoor classroom,

with new raised planting beds, a bird andbutterfly garden, and weather observation andcompost stations

• Two age-appropriate large play structures, awooden boat, sand play area, a tree fort, swings,a ping pong alcove, and sports areas

• Accessible features and ADA-compliant fixturesso ALL students can play

• Adventure-play style landscaping throughout thespace

THIS PROJECT WILL BENEFIT OUR ENTIRE TOWN! Located behind the library in our town center, the new playground will be enjoyed by town families and visitors after school, on weekends, and during school breaks.

We are seeking community partners for sponsorships and-kind donations to achieve our fundraising goal of $300,000. Naming opportunities are available and we look forward to featuring partners on our project website and social media pages.

A natural playground gives kids the chance to wonder, take risks, build confidence, learn via all their senses and practice environmental stewardship. What could be better?

Thank you for considering helping Cape kids learn, play, and grow outside!

The current playground has aged equipment, site maintenance challenges and doesn’t meet updated safety codes.

Following a community input survey in 2015, a grant funded the design of a nature-based “adventure playspace” by a licensed landscape architect in 2016. State funding cuts prevented the school system from completing the project several years in a row.

In 2018, dedicated parents and school staff launched the Operation Rebuild: Learn, Play, Grow Outside! campaign to bring the project to life! Provided funds can be secured, construction will occur during the 2019 summer break.

Dear Community Business,

It is an exciting time for Pond Cove Elementary School and Cape Elizabeth! I am reaching out to you as a member of the non-profit organization founded to lead Operation Rebuild: Learn, Play,

Grow Outside!, the campaign to support the installation of a new playground at Pond Cove.

A renowned, nature-play based landscape architect has completed an inspiring design plan for the new playground and outdoor classroom space! After consecutive years of budget cuts, the Cape Elizabeth School District and Town Leadership requested outside fundraising assistance to make the project a reality this summer!

Outdoor play boosts creativity, helps with problem solving and mental focus, and promotes collaborative social play. The natural design of this new space includes an extended outdoor classroom area designed to host connection to the elementary science curriculum. It truly gives areas for playing, learning and growing!

The playground will serve 600 elementary school children daily through recess and visits to the outdoor classroom. However, the incredible benefit comes from location within the heart of Cape Elizabeth: Via access from Cape Elizabeth’s Town Center and the Thomas Memorial Library, this space will be enjoyed by town families and visitors on weeknights, weekends, holiday breaks, and during summer vacations for generations to come!

There are many ways that you can help support this project in our community. Enclosed please find the Pond Cove Playground Sponsorship Packet, including a Project Information Page, Donor Naming Opportunities, an In-Kind Materials Donation List, and Project Design Plans!

Individuals or business donors will able to name a portion of the project (this provides high visibility for your company) or simply donate to the $300,000 budget required to complete the project. The design of this project also leads to a variety of in-kind needs including building materials for play structures and raised beds, soil, sand, bark mulch, rocks, cut trees, shrubs and trees for planting.

As a sponsor, you will join a powerful list of community and town organizations stepping up to make this happen now! We would be thrilled to promote your contribution and partnership via our website, social media activities, and project materials.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions about the project or our non-profit organization. Thank you for your time and consideration of a donation. We will be back in touch to see how you can help!

Sincerely,

The Pond Cove Playground Committee
