I am working in KWS Malindi Marine Park as a JICA volunteer of environment teacher. This presentation is for practice card game named "bidi". Students can study about, how to protect speceis from extinction, why species faced to endangered, and so on.TRANSCRIPT

What is bidi?
「 bi 」 signified “bio”,
「 di 」 signified “diversity”
All creatures related each other by food chain / web.
Today there are more than 30 million species living on the earth.
However, deforestation, global warming, poaching, and other human activities threaten other species.
In this nature game, we will roll play what is happening now through card game.
In this game…It divided into 7 areas.
Each area has
10 cards of endangered species,
2 cards of extinction cards,
10 cards of conservation,
9 cards of special occasion.
Total 91 cards to play.
Player must collect
5 species of an area
and say “bidi!!”
to win this game.
Players for 7 people.

1. Divide cards into 72 species cards, 10 conservation cards, and 9 special cards.
2. Mix up 72 species cards and 10 conservation cards.
3. Distribute 5 cards for each players.4. Add 9 special cards to remained cards
and mix up.5. Put mixed cards on the “ 山札” on the
sheet.

It has 10 to 1 scores depends on how endangered.• Extinct Cards ‥ 2 cards
You can use anywhere but no score gain.• Conservation cards ‥ 10 cards
You can exchange any card from card in the conservation area.
• Special cards ‥ 9 cardsNatural hazard 2 cards
Unexpected hazards changed environment, hand your all cards to the
person on your left.
Development 1 cardRoll the dice, then players put your
same area cards, which the number ofdice to conservation area.1,2 = Asia 3,4 = Africa5,6 = S. America※Human destroyed nature by “Development”. Those natures cannot recover easily.
• Pollution card 1 cardRoll the dice, then players put your
same area cards, which the number of dice to conservation area.1,3,5 = Europe/Russia 2,4,6 = N. America
※Pollution damage toenvironment and speciesfaced to endangereddue to human activities.
• Global Warming card 1 card
Roll the dice, then players put your same area cards, which the number of dice to conservation area.
1,3,5 = North pole/South pole
2,4,6 = Oceania
※Enhanced global warming
threaten species.
• Poaching card 2 card
Players put all 8, 9, 10 numbered cards on the conservation area.
※Poaching is one of the activities,
which offend law to kill animals
for sell.
Once poachers hunt down
many species,
the ecosystem broken down.
• Treaty card 2 cardA player, who get this card, declare 1 area, such
as “Asia”, then put card on that area.When another player get another treaty card,
declare 1 another area, such as “Africa”, then put card on that area.
Once treaty cards putted on 2 areas, those areas acknowledged as same area.
※Treaty is promise of countries.We create document to make promise.Washington Treaty: Stop dealing with products
of endangered species.Ramsar Treaty: Conserve area of migratory birds to rest.
How to play?
1. Start with 5 cards each and decide who is first. Then he will take 1 card from “ 山札 cards”.
2. Choose 1 unnecessary card from own cards, and put on the “ 保護区 reserve” with reverse the card.
3. If picked card is “Special occasion”, follow its order.
4. Once you collected 4 cards of same area, say “bidi!” and win the game!!
How to put score?1. Once some one say “Bidi!” and end the g
ame, players sum up the score, which written on the cards.
2. The player, who collected 5 same area cards, he will get 10 point bonus score.
3. The player who got highest score will be “Bidi Champion”!
