Greetings, students, faculty and alums!

As I am sure you know, the carnival season is upon us, and with

this brings to mind fond childhood memories. Being brought up in

New Orleans, Mardi Gras was always a fun time for friends and

family alike to get together and celebrate life. Going to parades

with my siblings, trying to catch the most beads, dancing in the

streets, and eating Popeye’s fried chicken are just a few

recollections I have of this yearly celebration.

While I enjoyed Mardi Gras as a youngster, as a Catholic I always

knew Lent was right around the corner. My mind would be

preoccupied with what I was going to give up for forty days…

abbreviations, nail polish, and peanut butter were a few of the

Lenten highlights for me. However, silly as this may sound, the idea

of doing or giving up something intentionally to better focus on self

-growth is probably one of the reasons I desire to be a counselor.

My hope is that this might encourage self-reflection in order to

see where growth is needed in your life. Thus, may this Mardi Gras

season be one of merriment but also lead to a more peaceful you.

Laissez les bons temp rouler!

Yours truly,

Sarah Finney

Professor kevin foose was a stand-up comedian

before entering the counseling field! Ironic as it

may seem, he says the skills needed for stand-

up comedy have been an asset in his counseling

practice. Take a gander at these nostalgic pieces

which can still be spotted in his office!
