LETTER FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am most grateful to God for the opportunity to lead Holy Family Parish at a pivotal time of great renewal and hope. It is a wonderful blessing to work side-by-side with so many of you in bringing the love of Christ to the world in so many ways. You have greatly encouraged me by your overwhelming support of a parish vision many years in the making.

Accomplishing this vision will empower our church and school.

The following pages describe the vision of the Honoring Our Past . . . Building Our Future Capital Campaign. I am confident we will repair, restore and beautify our school and church and build a new fellowship hall to greater serve our community. This needed work will honor the legacy of those who have come before us and allow us to serve the Lord faithfully for many more generations.

Please take a few minutes to read this case statement and pray for how God may be inviting you to support this noble effort. May God be praised for the work that we may accomplish together through Him.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,

Fr. Phillip Kaim, S.T.L.Pastor

Gracious and glorious God, we thank you for the abundant love and

grace that you pour upon Holy Family Church and School. Graciously hear

our prayers for our parish and abundantly bless

this campaign, that this house in honor of the

Holy Family may ever be a place for your children

to gather as devoted followers of you.

As we continue our Second Fifty years together, enlarge

our vision to see the possibilities that you place before us. Bless

us with a sense of unity and a spirit of

cooperation, as we face the responsibilities and challenges of “Building Community and Making

Disciples” now and through the years to

come. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

HOLY FAMILY PARISH HISTORYDestined for greatness from the beginning,

Holy Family Catholic Church is a faith-filled community determined to respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in building a promising future. Just as it was in its early years when it embraced its mission to build community and make disciples, our parish is inspired by the Holy Spirit which has fanned in it new flames of hope.

Bishop Loras T. Lane lit the flame in April 1962 when he announced plans to build

a new cathedral in the Rockford Diocese. Although this idea changed, the parish went ahead with school construction. Hope for the future warmed hearts as the new elementary school broke ground on a chilly day in March 1963. Seven months later, the church community built the convent to house the School Sisters of Saint Francis.

For the first 11 years, parishioners worshipped in the Meilinger Center, named for beloved founding pastor Monsignor Herman Meilinger. In 1970, Bishop O’Neill gave permission to build a permanent church dedicated to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Three years later, with approval

received, parishioners moved forward with building plans and in the spring of 1975 the new church building began to emerge. Later that year (Aug. 30) worshipers celebrated the inaugural Mass with dedication ceremonies enjoyed on June 13, 1976.

Over the years, Holy Family has continued to rely on guidance from the Holy Spirit to keep the spiritual flame alive. As it has for over five decades, the school continues to provide a strong academic and spiritual foundation to its students. The church’s many outreach ministries make Christ present to those in Rockford in need of his comfort. The impact of Holy Family’s spiritual programs reaches well beyond Rockford thanks to the parish’s Light of the World Evangelization Ministry. Even today, Fr. Beauvais, one of the three original beloved priests assigned to this church community, continues to provide counseling. His continued service is just one example of the dozens of ministries that truly make Christ present through Holy Family Catholic Church.

In a spirit of joy and friendship, that same commitment to discipleship propels Holy Family to embark on the Honoring Our Past . . . Building Our Future Capital Campaign.

THENeed Holy Family takes great pride in the work of the church and school in helping our children reach their full potential academically and spiritually. Together, Holy Family Catholic Church and School encourages its members to fully experience the reality of Christ’s presence in the world.

The challenge for Holy Family Catholic School is to maintain a robust enrollment by continuing to serve current families while attracting new ones. To ensure it meets this test the school building requires noticeable improvements. (You will find details of those upgrades under Maintenance Items on next page.)

Holy Family Catholic Church serves the many needs of Rockford families. Its growing list of religious education, adult formation and ministry programs educate those craving for the knowledge and love of Christ. Continuing these services requires the parish to address shortcomings with office and worship space. Doing so will encourage fellowship drawing more disciples into a deeper lived reality of the risen Christ.

Members of the church and school community overwhelmingly support addressing overdue maintenance

items, updating our facilities to a more 21st century feel and building a fellowship hall that will draw current and new

families together to continue to serve Holy Family’s mission for generations to come.

OUR VISION AND MILESTONES

$1 Million Celebration GoalMaintenance Items

The school desperately needs to install new sinks and plumbing, repair the skylight, and replace the current retaining wall. A new boiler to replace the nearly 60-year-old system is also on the list of items for replacement along with new HVAC controls.

Other parts of the campus are also in need of attention.

♦ The Meilinger Center, which houses the gym and cafeteria, needs roof and skylight repairs, new air handling units, HVAC control valves, general plumbing maintenance and replacement of the retaining wall.

♦ The church building requires upgrades to its air handling unit, a reworking of the electrical controls and mechanical maintenance.

♦ The Harte Center, home to the parish offices, needs a new boiler and air conditioning unit along with general mechanical maintenance.

$5.2 Million Challenge Goal Fellowship Hall

After reaching our first milestone, we’ll look for the support needed to construct a new fellowship hall. This facility will become the social center of our campus providing us the room we need to continue to grow our ministries and programs and better serve our people and the community at large. It will feature upstairs bathrooms for easy access and a catering/serving kitchen to prepare food and refreshments.

Conveniently located off the new narthex, the new fellowship hall will accommodate a large flow of parishioners as they exit Mass. In addition, visiting guests who attend weddings, baptisms or other services will enjoy a seamless transition to this bright, open, welcoming space equipped with state-of-the-art media equipment. The fellowship hall will create convenient opportunities for people to get to know each other better, learn from one another and grow in fellowship.

$1 Million Victory Goal Parking Lot Repairs

As we achieve our next fundraising milestone, we will invest in the improvement of our parking lot by replacing sections that need immediate attention. The work on the parking lot will follow the construction of the new fellowship hall.

$800,000 Platinum Goal Enhanced Worship Space

The final milestone is to beautify, brighten and enhance our worship space for the greater glory of God. Achieving this goal requires the installation of new carpeting, improved lighting and other enhancements to the sanctuary to emphasize the centrality of the Eucharist in our worship.

FUNDS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE ALL FOUR MILESTONES:

$8 MILLION

There are many ways to contribute and support the capital campaign. A pledge is a commitment made in good faith, but it’s not legally binding. Most donors fulfill a pledge over a three-year period making it easier to maximize their support. You may complete your commitment through monthly, quarterly, semiannual or annual installments.

METHODS OF GivingCash Gifts made by cash or check are the most common and will allow Holy Family Catholic Church to address its immediate needs.

Credit/Debit CardDonors may fulfill commitments by credit or debit card through the church’s website at www.holyfamilyrockford.org.

Securities Charitable gifts of stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have appreciated offer special tax advantages and can be a great way to provide a significant gift to Holy Family Catholic Church. Contact Lisa Mayer, business manager, for assistance with transfers to Holy Family Capital Campaign Account.

Life Insurance You may donate an old policy by simply naming Holy Family Catholic Church as the owner and beneficiary. Or you can consider donating a new policy.

Planned Gift Planned giving is the process of carefully selecting the best method and assets for making a charitable gift. Such a gift can enable you to take full advantage of the tax laws to accomplish your financial and charitable goals. A bequest contained in your will is the most common form of planned giving.

Corporate Matching Gifts A matching gift program provided through your employer or board membership may allow you to increase the value of your gift. Many companies match charitable gifts of employees, retirees or board members.

GIVING CONSIDERATIONS Diocesan policy stipulates that a parish must have at least 75 percent of a project’s cost in the bank and the other 25 percent pledged before beginning construction. We are eager to break ground as soon as possible. Our hope is that each family will prayerfully consider an initial down payment of at least 10 percent of their pledge.
