I am writing this letter to facilitate my student's request for practice teaching in your school. My student, Jay Zion Guillermo, is currently enrolled in EDUC z8o Practicum in Teaehing, a course under the Professional Teaching Certificate of the University of the Philippines Open University. In this practice teaching course, students are required to do either actual classroom teaching, assistant teaching or afterschool group instruction for enrichment activities. Attached to this message are further details regarding this course. Thus, this request for permission to allow my student to hold his classroom/session observation and practice teaching in your school. The practice teaching will be in the form of Classroom Teaching, OR Afterschool Group Instruction. The instruction should happen at the Basic Education Level (Kinder/Prep-Gradeschool or High School) in your school. Should you oblige to this, may I request for the following from your end: 1. a response to this letter in writing, to be mailed by my student or through email 2. a 1-2 session-observation by you or a head/cooperating teacher for proper feedback to the student 3. a proper introduction of my student to your teaching staff and class to be handled 4. any other information I should know in terms of school policies and guidelines for practicum teachers From the student's end, you should expect the following: 1. a set schedule for classroom observations (students/class to be handled, expert and novice teachers) and practice teaching (options stated earlier in this letter) 2. daily lesson plans (for classroom teaching and afterschool instruction) 0R daily logs of class activities (assistant teaching) 3. proper communication in case of failure to attend due to emergencies or sickness 4. documentation of practice teaching towards the end of the course 5. any other agreements/ responsibilities you expect from my student I am hoping for a favourable response. OURSE DESCRIPTION

EDUC 280 is Practicum in Teaching. This means that in this course, you are expected to integrate and apply lessons

learned from your previous PTC/EDSSE subjects in order to have a relevant and meaningful classroom teaching and

learning with your students or fellow teachers. This practicum course will provide you with opportunities toundergo actual teaching, teacher training, assistant teaching or afterschool group instruction for enrichmentpurposes.

A. Basic Course Requirements:

1. Evidence of Hours Of Classroom Teaching/ TraininE

This includes actual contact time with students as well as planning and preparation time, and participation in

school events. Thesaidteaching canbeintheformof ANYof thefollowing(student-teacher chooses loption,also upon arrangement/approval of contact person from the school):

. Teacher Training/ Youth Seminar-Workshop (as Service Learning): 3 days Total of 36 hrs

. Classroom Teaching - 45 min-1hr per session in a span of 3-6 wks, Total of 30-36 hrs

. Assistant Teaching - providing assistance to main teacher through handling small group instruction,materials production, preparation for school events/ activities, observation of children, compilation ofstudents' works (total of 80 hrs. in a spread of L0-14wks)

. Afterschool Group lnstruction for Enrichment Activities-for a group of children who can learn more fromdirect skills instruction, storytelling and language/ reading activities, computer literacy, other afterschoolactivities the school intends to have (total of 40-60 hrs. in a spread of 10-14wks)

2. Two Academic Papers. Classroom (students) and School Observations. Observations of Expert and Novice Teachers

3.On-line Journal:

To focus on raising questions while planning/ teaching/ training; anecdotes/ observations (teachers, children,youth); to reflect through self criticisms, learning processes and self-discoveries as a teacher trainer; all part ofdeveloping a reflective practice as teachers and lifelong learners

B. Additional Requirements: PORTFOLIO (hardcopy or ePortfolio)Your portfolio is a compilation of evidences of yourwork as practicum teacher. lt should contain the following:

. letters/ communications to the school/institution

. lesson plans -implemented during the course of your practice teaching( for actual classroom teaching)

. print out of online journal entries posted in Moodle or handwritten daily logs about your class sessions

. samples of teacher-made materials or instructional resources you used/produced for the class sessions as

part of assistant teaching/ afterschool group instruction. samples of your students' works. documentation of observation feedback/ evaluation from a school head teacher/ official. documentation of student feedback/ evaluation of your teaching. photo documentation of 2 practice teaching session or ongoing class sessions (subject to approval of the

school/organization )

. anything else you want to provide as evidence of your work
