This follows on the heels of an October 25, 2016,headline in the Financial Times that “Renewablesovertake coal as world’s largest source of powercapacity.”

While polls consistently show that Americansoverwhelmingly support a strong transition torenewables, many people aren’t aware of theremarkable progress that is taking place behindthe scenes. Worldwide in 2015, 500,000 solarpanels were installed on an average day, whileChina alone averaged 2 wind turbines every hour, according to the International Energy Agency.

People might also be unaware of the good newsthat renewable energy jobs are growing rapidlyand providing living-wage opportunities forAmericans of all education levels. PolitiFactrecently stated, “Based on an apples-to-applescomparison using the best available data, theratio [of solar-related jobs to coal-related jobs] isjust short of 3-to-1.” A 2016 “Clean Jobs NewYork” study commissioned by EnvironmentalEntrepreneurs found 85,197 clean energy jobsacross New York State.

We certainly have a long way to go, and we’vebarely begun the transition to renewables inheating our homes and powering our cars, butthe transition has begun and is rapidly picking upsteam. This is good news for the health and well-being of our children and even better news fortheir children.
