Given the appalling revelations which have emerged regarding Jimmy Savile during his timeat the BBC I am writing to ask you to instigate an inquiry into whether or not the BBC are afit and proper organisation to hold a broadcasting licence.
It seems increasingly clear that Jimmy Savile sexually abused a large number of peoplewhilst working for the BBC and on the premises of the BBC. It is also becoming obviousthat there were a large number of people within the BBC, including in senior positions, whowere aware of the allegations surrounding Jimmy Savile and yet did nothing to investigatethem or bring them to the attention of the Police.
There has clearly also been a long-standing widespread culture of inappropriate behaviour atthe BBC, including sexual harassment and assault of which Jimmy Savile's activities were atthe extreme.
We are yet to discover exactly who knew what at the BBC and when but it is inconceivablethat nobody there in senior positions today were aware of the allegations surrounding JimmySavile or other inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour.
Given that Ofeom initiated a fit and proper inquiry into Sky relating to less seriousallegations of phone hacking at a company owned by a minority shareholder in Sky, I amsure you must appreciate that such an inquiry should also take place into the BBC given theserious allegatio elating directly to the broadcaster itself.
