Dear John Glenn Families, Our students, families, and all of our John Glenn teammates have accomplished extraordinary work during the course of our extended eLearning event. I have personally witnessed many examples of curiosity, problem- solving, dedication, and perseverance during this time. I have also seen care, concern, teamwork, and the application of the “Golden Rule” to support students and families beyond the work of schooling. Thank you to everyone for your commitment to the children and the greater community of John Glenn! I continue to swell with pride and appreciation for all that has been accomplished since our last day on campus. Well done! Per the order of Governor Holcomb, and at the direction from the State Superintendent Dr. McCormick, school will continue via eLearning Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through Friday, May 22 nd 2020. This plan will ensure that John Glenn School Corporation is in compliance with the updated state mandated attendance requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Students must complete their eLearning requirements before they are finished with this school year. This is because right now, student attendance is determined according to their completion/submission of eLearning assignments. As such, please continue working hard on your eLearning work. Your student’s teachers will confirm the aforementioned state mandated attendance requirements based on the work submitted. Once more, May 22 nd is the last scheduled student school day for the 2019-2020 school year. Again, students must complete the attendance requirements by submitting eLearning assignments before the school year ends for them. Teachers will work as needed with incomplete students, and record keeping for grades through May 29 th . Regarding summer school. We plan to provide online summer school opportunities for high school students working on credited classes. Additionally, pending Governor Holcomb’s guidance, we hope to provide on- campus summer remediation. Details for this are still unknown. More information will be forthcoming as the school year comes to an end. I know that end of the year traditions are very important to all of us across all grade levels. I particularly acknowledge the importance of annual traditions for our graduating seniors whose final semester has been interrupted. Please know that your John Glenn team is working diligently to monitor guidance from our state leaders, to problem-solve, and to deliver alternative recognition events for all students, and especially our seniors. Stand-by for updated information about grade level and building-specific “end of the year” activities that will take place on our already scheduled eLearning days. Graduation has not been cancelled, but it will most likely be conducted in a different format. Please take care of yourselves and each other. Caring Regards, Christopher Winchell, Superintendent
