Dear Editor, I am writing in response to your article titled

‘Parking Near School Raises Safety Fears’ published on 25th September regarding the lack of parking spaces near IES Mugardos.

As mentioned in your article, the situation is becoming increasingly chaotic. In my opinion, it is only a matter of time before a child is injured or worse due to the appalling parking and access conditions.

There are no dedicated parking spots for parents dropping off and picking up their children. On-street parking is near impossible. This means that both parents and children must risk walking on the busy road.

I suggest that a drop off and pick up area is built on site to reduce the traffic impact in the already congested area. The school would also benefit from a lollipop person to patrol the road and ensure that pupils arrive safely.

Students and parents are calling on the wider community to help us find a solution. We cannot go on like this. If nothing is done we will be forced to take further action.
