Brake safety is in the news a lot lately. With several reports released inside the last 12 months outlining brakes as one of the key focus areas to prevent fatalities, brakes and brake maintenance is quickly becoming a feature on the agenda of

industry leaders and regulators.

Ongoing brake maintenance should be a key priority for fleet managers,

owners and service managers alike. With the safety and the chain of responsibility, for assets and the lives of their staff

and the general public at stake, regular brake maintenance can help lower the instances of some of the leading causes of accidents.

Why Test Brakes?Safety - To ensure vehicles are safe to use.

Legislation - It is becoming more of a regulatory focus to frequently test brakes. Liability – Reduce the risk of legal action with accurate testing information.Economy - Minimise vehicle downtime, reduce lining and component wear, and decrease tyre wear.

OH&S Fatigue Management - Provide a positive effect on driver fatigue management.

So what can you do? Be proactive -- preventative maintenance is critical. Having the right testing equipment means you can reduce tyre wear, improve vehicle safety, experience fewer brake related incidents, and retain auditable records to reduce your risk of liability.

Roller Brake Testers are widely considered as the most comprehensive testing system in the industry. Using this method produces the most consistent results across all axles and achieves greater safety. There are also a number of options to enhance the system including speedo checking, play detectors, emission testers, air pressure testing, headlight aimers and noise meters. These accessories give this unit the added advantage of being able, in some cases, to form the basis of a complete vehicle test lane.

Commercial vehicle wheel alignmentwith camera technology

While the mechanics of a Diesel engine have not changed that much over the years, the technology to ensure longevity, safety and durability of big trucks and buses has moved forward in leaps and bounds. David Lowery of David Lowery Diesel Repairs out of Emerald, decided he needed the best for his clients, so he turned to Levanta and JOSAM for the right solution.

Emerald might be a small town, but we love how David saw a big opportunity! Realising that wheel alignment was being offered by one other business in Emerald, David jumped at being the first and only Diesel Repair Workshop in the region to offer commercial, heavy vehicle wheel alignment services, utilising camera technology. His new JOSAM Cam-Aligner is designed specifically for commercial vehicles such as trucks, trailers and buses – all of which pass through his town on a regular basis. David can now service more clients quicker, resulting in greater productivity, which is flowing through to his bottom line. Nice one Dave!!

Why Wheel Alignment?By measuring and adjusting wheel angles on a vehicle, fuel costs and tire wear are reduced. At the same time comfort, security and running characteristics are improved. This leads to a better economy and environment for everyone. It also means that the vehicle travels on the highway without taking up as much space as an incorrectly aligned vehicle  would.

Wheel Alignment TechnologyThis compact wheel alignment system enables truck and bus workshops, as well as tyre service centres, to offer wheel alignment options quickly and accurately.

Measurements such as;• Toe, Steering Box Position, Camber, Out of Square, Parallelism and Axle Offset• Caster, KPI, Toe Out On Turns and Max Turn

are calculated using patented camera technology with the chassis centre line of the vehicle as reference.

Enabled by the unique rolling method, toe and camber measurements may be taken while the vehicle is in driving position. No lifting of the axles with run-out compensation is required, alternatively the system can also be operated with standard run-out procedure.

Measurement Principle & ScalabilityThe JOSAM cam-aligner wheel alignment system uses the centreline principle to determine the position of axles and individual wheels in relation to the centreline of the vehicle.

The system is designed to measure commercial vehicles such as trucks, trailers, buses and light commercial vehicles.

Thanks to the scalability of the system it is also possible to obtain functions for

• ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) alignment• Frame check• Quick diagnose

JH1500 is the successor of the JH1300 induction heater. This upgraded version is lighter, has improved software and is easier to manoeuvre but still produces the same amount of power as its predecessor. Moreover, it features five output levels and is water cooled with compressor for optimal running time. To be able to execute the most demanding types of heating work, this is your weapon of choice.

Heat is applied directly to the material without the need to disassemble nearby heat-sensitive components. Chassis, axles, joint reinforcements, bolts, clamping rings, pins and heavier steel parts can simply be heated up for loosening, adjusting or straightening.

Page 5: Levanta | Heavy Vehicle Workshop Catalogue - April 2015

If space is always an issue in your heavy vehicle workshop, what you need is something that can give you your current space back and then offer more flexibility when you need it. A major service on a major vehicle, requires major space … what if you could simply find a level location, hoist up the vehicle and then lower it back down onto axle stands? What if you could then pack that hoist away, or make that heavy duty lift instantly available for use elsewhere, while the major vehicle service is being performed? If this sounds good to you, then you need a set of Levanta’s mobile column lifts!

You may not have previously considered getting a set of mobile column lifts, but their adaptability, durability and operational ease can make them one of the most useful items in your workshop.

Mobile column lifts are easily stored away so they don’t take up valuable workspace when you’re not using them, and you’re able to set them up ANYWHERE, so you can turn your car park area, or another empty space, into a work bay if needed.

Of course, mobile column lifts are often used for trucks and buses, but what if you need to lift up a semi-trailer or an articulated bus? Just add or remove sets as you need to, and you’ll be prepared for anything. Synchronised, lightweight, easy to maintain and quick to set up, break down and store, these versatile lifts are the perfect addition to any heavy vehicle workshop.

OVERVIEWGrowing sales and increased customer needs meant that Daimler Trucks Perth needed to relocate some of their existing workshop and install new equipment to accommodate rapid growth. Enhancing their capabilities, Daimler Trucks expanded in their brand new premises to include a new pre-delivery centre, plus an additional servicing and maintenance workshop. One of the largest truck workshops in Australia needed to be managed by one of the largest fit out delivery businesses in Australia, so Daimler called Levanta to design, supply, project manage and install, ensuring that budgets and workshop efficiencies were top of mind at all times.

SOLUTIONIncreased sales and the associated growth in service work meant that Daimler Trucks Perth needed to expand their sales and service centres to cope with the increased workload. This realisation presented Daimler with the opportunity to relocate the business to a brand new, purpose built facility and improve workflow and profitability through the introduction of new equipment and workshop design. An expanded Pre-Delivery centre and dedicated service workshop along with increased office and yard space mean that the new Daimler Truck Centre in Hazelmere WA will be the most advanced service facility in Australia. To ensure that they made the right decisions when it came to workshop equipment, Daimler put their trust in Levanta to provide them with a reliable and lasting solution to fit their needs and budget.

CUSTOMER BENEFITBuilt to deliver increased capabilities, more efficient throughput, clear and effective flow principles, as well as increased productivity and profitability, this massive workshop project has exceeded the client brief and expectations.
