    Generating Evidence

    The evidence for this unit is provided by passing a formal pre-set written test paper

    drawn from a bank of test questions. Observation of practical demonstrating ofcompetence in procedures. Demonstration of knowledge of the subject throughoutthe training period by answering oral questions and completing exercises and casestudies both as individuals and in groups.

    Description of unit

    This unit introduces operators to the operation of CCTV equipment both within theControl Room and at the camera location. It will allow the Operators to understandmore fully all of the equipment that will be used together with dealing with tapeManagement

    Summary of outcomes

    To achieve this unit an operator must:

    1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of how the CCTV system works

    2. Demonstrate a basic working knowledge of the control and operation ofkeyboards and joysticks within the Control Room

    3. Demonstrate a basic working knowledge and understanding of the monitorswithin the Control Room.

    4. Demonstrate a basic working knowledge and understanding of the CCTVcameras, which are linked to the Control Room.

    5. Show a basic working knowledge and understanding of all recorded mediaand the way it is controlled within the Control Room.

    Summary of outcomes

    To achieve this unit an operator must:

    2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the ISDN (Integrated Special DigitalNetwork) and its uses.

    Content

    1. When surveillance planning explain the need for detailed knowledge of thelocal topography and cameras relationships to features on the ground. An

    understanding of the capabilities of CCTV equipment and local crimepatterns.

    2. Explain what body language is and how to interpret it. Recognise indicatorsof suspicious behaviour and vulnerability.

    3. Explain the dangers of stereotyping individuals and targets.

    4. Demonstrate an understand for the reasons for targeting individuals andwhat the restrictions are. Targeting in relation to pre-planned operations.

    5. Demonstrate the ability to track people and vehicles.

    6. Display the ability to carry out lost contact drills to regain a target.

    7. Demonstrate the ability to set up and use monitors for identification,covering areas and gaining time.

    8. Show the ability to search using cameras and assist external agencies inthe event of a bomb alert.
