Stage plan overview:

Introduction Ask students what they can remember about cartoons from last week’s lesson. Ask students what they are going to do after class, tomorrow, next week, give different times etc. Encourage students to use the form

“I’m going to….”Supporting Tasks

Put students into small groups and ask them to brainstorm all the different jobs they know on a piece of paper. Ask each group to share their answers with the rest of the class. Teacher can record their answers on the whiteboard.

Ask students what they are going to do when they are older, what job do they want to do? Discuss and ask why. When we talk about future events we can use going to. On the board, teach how to use going to. Write some sentences on the board in

the future tense, for example: Next week I am going to the cinema with my friends. When Paul grows up he is going to be a dentist. Jane and Jack are going to go skiing next Christmas.

Students practice going to by completing Activity Sheet 1 – Going to Read Suddenly. Before reading, discuss the cover and ask students what they think the story is going to be about. Read the story

stopping at relevant places to ask students to predict what will happen next by predicting what the wolf is going to do. Encourage them to use going to in their predictions. Which student got the most predictions correct?

Students work through PB pp. 16-17 and AB pp.16-17.Main Task

Students make a paper fortune teller using “going to” in all the sections; for example, you are going to be a doctor. You are going to be rich. You are going to have five mansions. Refer to Teacher Resource 1 and Teacher Resource 2 for instructions.Post Task Activities

Students use their fortune tellers with each other to make funny predictions.Lesson Log

Fold the corner to the center of the square (where the X crosses)

Repeat with the other three corners and you'll end up with an even smaller square

Fold and unfold the bottom edge of the square up to the top

Fold and unfold the left edge of the square over to the right

This bit is easier to do than it is to explain -- basically, you want to push the four corners of the square together in the center and then slide 4 fingers into the flaps of your fortune teller, creasing the folds back so your fingers fit in nicely.  You'll be able to move the flaps with your fingers like little puppets.

At this point, carefully print 4 things on the outside flaps (the standard are blue, red, green and yellow).  Print 8 things on the inside flaps (the standard are the numbers 1 thru 8).  And print 4 things underneath the inside flaps (the standard are "fortunes" like:

You are going to be richYou are going to be famousYou are going to be a singerYou are going to be happy

You can color in some of the sections if you like or add stickers.

How To Play

Ask your partner her/his favorite color and then flap the fortune teller open one way, then the other spelling out the color (ex:  B  L  U  E)

Ask how many children (boyfriends) he/she will have and then count out the number, again flapping the fortune teller back and forth

Then ask your partner her/his lucky number, lift that flap and read the person's fortune.

OR

Ask your partner to choose a colour on the outside flap, then spell the word whilst moving the fortune teller (ex. B L U E)

Ask your partner to choose one of the numbers shown, and then move the fortune teller that many times. Repeat with another number.

Then ask partner for a number but this time open the flap and tell them their fortune: You are going to be a singer.
