Upgrades Domestic Upgrades Upgrade requests are cleared based on the window applicable to your status level: AAdvantage Executive Platinum members 100 hours prior to departure AAdvantage Platinum members 72 hours prior to departure AAdvantage Gold members 24 hours prior to departure AAdvantage non-elite status members*24 hours prior to departure Upgrade requests are prioritized first by status level, then by fare and finally by the order in which they were upgraded. Request your upgrades early! Its cheaper to buy your 500-mile upgrades online/at a kiosk
  • 7. Upgrades Systemwide Upgrades EXP members are awarded 8 per year they qualify/re-qualify. SWUs/eVIPs are valid on virtually ALL fare classes. SWUs/eVIPS are valid ONLY on American metal. SWUs are valid for a one-way, one-class upgrade on a paid fare. SWUs are also earned at certain MM thresholds. Dont forget to waitlist for the long segment.
