General Information This document is intended for use by LexisNexis® sales and support teams as well as external customers as reference. Information includes DMV hours/availability, processing schedules, registry fees, and primary and secondary search requirements.

MVR Order Types

There are two main types of orders: Interactive and Batch.

Interactive ordering means each of your orders is processed one by one in real-time as you order. Each state or province processes inquiry information differently; thus, the amount of time it takes for you to receive results differs depending on the state or province. Results are returned to you in the same interactive transaction during which you placed the order.

Note: Some interactive orders may "roll" to a batch order mode, if the state or province cannot process the order interactively for a period of time. In order to use this rollover, you must have the feature with your account setup.

Batch ordering means multiple orders for a state are sent in a single file at a scheduled time. In return you will receive one results file for all the orders in your batch.

In many instances, the requirements for Interactive ordering for one state will be the same as those for Batch ordering. In some cases the requirements may differ.

Additionally there may be occasions where LexisNexis receives your orders in batch files, but the order may be fulfilled with the state's or province's Department of Motor Vehicles through an interactive process. The results are still returned to you in a batch file. This is referred to as Batch to Interactive ordering.

Driver License Number (DLN) Formats

Driver License Number is the main search criteria for state DMV records.

A Driver License Number may be composed of Numeric (a number), and/or Alpha (a letter), and/or special character (hyphens, spaces, etc.). Each state has its own DLN format. For example:

• 7 Numeric indicates a seven-position numeric only Driver License Number.

• 6 (1 Alpha+5 Numeric) indicates a six-position Driver License Number where the first position is a letter and the subsequent 5 positions are numeric.

• 9 (1 Alpha [A, B, D, or Y only]+8 Numeric) indicates nine-position Driver License Number where the first position is one of the letters A, B, D, or Y; and the subsequent eight-positions are numeric only.



• 1-7 Numeric indicates a numeric only Driver License Number that could be from one position to seven positions.

• 9 (2 Alpha+6 Numeric+1 Alpha) indicates the first two positions are letters, the following six positions are numeric only, and the last position is a letter.

• Leading/Trailing Zeros must be present for a match indicates that if the number zero begins or ends the Driver License Number, it must be included on the order.

• 1 Numeric+2 Special*+4 Alpha indicates the first position is numeric, the following two-positions are special characters, and the last four- positions are letters. The asterisk (*) indicates that the specific special characters allowed on the order are listed following the DL Format.

• 9 Numeric (SSN) indicates that the Social Security Number must be used in place of the DLN.

Note: Some state DMV systems can accept more than one DL Format. Different format specifications are separated by "OR".

Name Formats

Names are often used in the DMV searches too, with DLN and DOB. They may appear in combinations of the following:

• Full Name - Driver's Full Name (LName+FName+M) as it appears on their Driver License.

• LName - Driver License last name

• FName - Driver License first name

• M - Driver License middle initial

• Suffix - Driver License Name suffix

• Char - Characters or positions in the Full Name data element.

• 1st char - First character or position in the Full Name data element.

• 1st 2 char - First two characters or positions in the Full Name data element.

• 1st 3 char - First three characters or positions in the Full Name data element.

• 1st 4 char - First four characters or positions in the Full Name data element.

• 1st 5 char - First five characters or positions in the Full Name data element.

DOB Format

Date of Birth uses one format: MM/DD/YY.
