    Inner camera lens

    Call key

    Dials a phone number andanswers incoming calls.

    Multitasking key

    End/Power key

    Ends or rejects a call.Turns the phone on/off.

    Press once to return tothe home screen.

    Installing the USIM and battery

    Remove the battery cover1

    Press and hold down the batteryrelease button at the top of thephone and lift off the batterycover.

    Remove the battery2

    Hold the top edge of the battery

    and lift it from the batterycompartment.

    WARNING:Do not use yourfingernail when removing thebattery.

    WARNING:Do not remove

    the battery when the phoneis switched on, as this maydamage the phone.

    Install the USIM card3

    Slide the USIM card into the USIMcard holder. Make sure that thegold contact area on the card isfacing downwards. To remove theUSIM card, pull it gently in theopposite direction.

    Install the battery4

    Insert the top of the battery firstinto the top edge of the batterycompartment. Ensure that thebattery contacts align with theterminals on the phone. Pressdown the bottom of the batteryuntil it clips into place.

    Charging your phone5

    Slide back the cover of thecharger socket on the side ofyour GT505. Insert the chargerand plug into a mains electricitysocket. Your GT505 will need

    to be charged until a messagereading Battery full appears onscreen.

    Memory card

    Installing a memory card

    You can expand the memory spaceavailable on your phone using amemory card.

    NOTE:A memory card is an optionalaccessory.

    Open the memory card cover.1

    Slide the memory card into the2slot at the top, until it clicks intoplace. Make sure that the gold

    contact area is facing downwards.

    Close the memory card cover.3

    Formatting the memory card

    Your memory card may alreadybe formatted. If your card isntformatted, you will need to format itbefore you can begin using it.

    From the home screen select1 then touch Settingsand choosePhone settings.

    Touch2 Memory managerthenchose External memory.

    Touch3 Formatand then confirmyour choice.

    Enter the password, if one is set,4and your card will be formatted

    and ready to use.TIP!To change your defaultstorage destination, openMemory manager from thePhone settings menu and selectPrimary storage settings.

    NOTE:If your memory card

    Touch screen tips

    The home screen is also a great

    place to get used to using the touchscreen.

    To select an item, touch the centreof the icon.

    Do not to press too hard; the

    touchscreen is sensitive enoughto pick up on a light, firm touch.

    Use the tip of your finger totouch the option you require. Be

    careful not to touch any otherkeys.

    When the screen light is off,either press the Unlock/Lock keyon the right hand side or holddown the Unlock key on thetouch screen to return the homescreen.

    Whenever your GT505 is not

    in use, it will return to the lockscreen as default.

    The quick keys

    The quick keys on your home screen provide easy, one-touch access to yourmost used functions.

    Touch to bring up the touchdialling pad to make a call.

    Input the number as youwould using a normal keypad and touch Call or pressthe hard key.

    To initiate a video call withthe number, press afterinputting the number andchoose Make Video call.

    Touch to open your contacts.To search for the number

    you want to call, enter thename of the contact usingthe touchpad. You can alsocreate new contacts and editexisting ones.

    Touch to access theMessaging options menu.From here you can create anew SMS.

    Touch to open the full Topmenu which is separatedinto four sub-menus. Touchthe vertical tabs to view

    The status bar

    The status bar uses various icons toindicate things like signal strength,new messages and battery life aswell as telling you whether yourBluetooth or GPRS is active.

    Below is a table which explains themeaning of icons youre likely to seein the status bar.

    Changing your status from

    the status barTouch the current status icon thatrepresents your current setting inthe status bar to open the Status

    Summary. It shows the current Time,Network, SVC ID, Battery, Handsetmemory, External Memory, Profile,MP3, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi status. Youcan set Profile type, play/pause MP3

    and activate/deactivate Bluetoothand Wi-Fi.

    Using the Multitasking

    functionPress the multitasking hard keyto open the Multitasking menu.From here you can view all the

    applications you have running andaccess them with one touch.

    From any application, press theMultitasking key and select Homescreen to return to the home screen

    without exiting or closing theapplication.

    When you have an applicationrunning in the background (e.g.a game or the FM radio), willappear in the status bar.

    When you press this key from thehome screen, you can view a shortcut menu to some commonly used

    functions.

    Making a call or video call

    Touch1 to open the keypad.Key in the number using the2keypad. To delete a digit pressthe clear key.

    Touch the3 hard key toinitiate the call.

    To end the call press the4hard key.

    TIP!To enter + for making aninternational call, touch twice.

    TIP!Press the lock/unlock

    button to lock the touchscreento prevent calls being made bymistake.

    Making a call from your

    contactsFrom the home screen touch1to open Contacts.

    Touch Name and enter the first2

    few letters of the contact youwould like to call.

    From the filtered list, touch the3contact youd like to call andselect the number to use if you

    have more than one saved.Touch4 Call.

    Answering and rejecting a

    call

    When your phone rings press thehard key to answer the call.

    Tap to mute the ringing. This isgreat if youve forgotten to change

    your profile to Silent for a meeting.Press the hard key to reject anincoming call.

    In-call options

    TIP!To scroll through alist of options or your listof contacts, touch thelast item visible and slideyour finger up the screen.

    The list will move up somore items are visible.

    Speaker- Touch to turn on thespeaker phone.

    Mute- Touch to turn off themicrophone so the person you are

    talking to cannot hear you.Options- Choose from a list of furtherin-call options, including Create newmemo and Go to messages, so you cancheck your messages and add contacts

    during a call. You can also end the callfrom here by touching End call.

    - Choose to search your contactsduring a call.

    - Choose to add another person tothe call.

    - Touch to open a numerical keypadfor navigating menus with numberedoptions. For example, when dialling call

    centres or other automated telephoneservices.

    Adjusting the call volume

    To adjust the volume during a call,use the up and down button on theright side of the phone.

    Speed dialling

    You can assign a frequently-calledcontact to a speed dial number.

    From the home screen touch1to open Contacts.

    Touch2 and choose Speeddials.

    Your voicemail is already set to3speed dial 1. Touch any othernumber to assign it a speed dial

    contact.

    Your contacts will open. Select4the contact youd like to assignto that number by touching the

    phone number once.To call a speed dial number, touch

    from the home screen thenpress and hold the assigned numberuntil the contact appears on screen.

    The call will initiate automatically,

    theres no need to press Call .

    Making a second call

    During your initial call, touch1and select the number you want

    to call.Dial the number or search your2contacts.

    Press3 to connect the call.

    Both calls will be displayed on4the call screen. Your initial callwill be locked and the caller puton hold.

    To change between the calls,5

    touch and choose Swapcallor press the number of theheld call.

    To end one or both calls press6

    and select End Callfollowedby All, Heldor Active.

    TIP!You can combine your calls

    by touching Join icon thenJoin. Check that your networkprovider supports conferencecalling.

    NOTE:You will be charged for eachcall you make.

    Turning off DTMF

    DTMF allows you to use numericalcommands to navigate menuswithin automated calls. DTMF isswitched on as default.

    To turn it off during a call (to makea note of a number for example)touch and select DTMF off.

    Viewing your call logs

    Touch and selectCommunicationand tap Recenthistory.

    Choose to view:

    All calls- View a complete list of alldialled, received and missed calls.

    Dialled calls- View a list of all thenumbers you have called.

    Received calls- View a list of all the

    numbers that have called you.Missed calls- View a list of all thecalls you have missed.

    TIP!From any call log touch

    and Delete allto delete all therecorded items.

    Using call divert

    Touch1 , select Settingsandchoose Call settings.

    Touch2 Call divertand chooseVideo callsand/or Voice calls.

    Choose whether to divert all calls,3

    when the line is busy, when thereis no answer or when you are notreachable.

    Input the number youd like to4

    divert to.

    Touch1 , select Settingsandchoose Call settings.

    Touch2 Call barringand chooseVideo callsand/or Voice calls.

    Choose any or all of the five3 options:

    All outgoing

    Outgoing international

    Outgoing international calls

    except home country

    All incoming

    Incoming when abroad

    Enter the call barring password.4

    TIP!Select Fixed dial numberto turn on and compile a list of

    numbers which can be calledfrom your phone. Youll needyour PIN2 code from youroperator. Only numbers includedin the fixed dial list can be called

    from your phone.

    to answer the phone using thesend key or any key.

    Minute minder- Slide the switchleft to Onto hear a tone everyminute during a call.

    BT answer mode- Select Hands-freeto be able to answer a callusing a Bluetooth headset, orselect Handsetto press a key on

    the handset to answer a call. Save new number - Select Yesto

    save a new number.

    Changing your video call

    Searching for a contact

    There are two ways to search for acontact:

    From the home screen

    From the home screen touch1

    to open Contacts. TouchName and enter the name of thecontact using the key pad.

    Touch2 Call or the hardkey to initiate the call.

    From the main menuTouch1 , selectCommunication.

    Touch2 Contactsand Search.

    TIP!The alphabetical keypadis displayed once you tap Name.

    TIP!To scroll through your list

    of contacts, touch the last itemvisible and slide your finger upthe screen. The list will move upso more items are visible.

    Adding a new contact

    From the home screen touch1then select Create new contact.

    Enter the first and last name of2your new contact. You do nothave to enter both, but you mustenter one or the other.

    Enter up to five different3numbers and assign a type foreach. Choose from Mobile,

    Home, Office, Pager, Fax, VTand General.

    Add an email addresses.4

    Assign the contact to one or5more groups. Choose fromNo group, Family, Friends,Colleagues, Schoolor VIP.

    You can also add a6 Ringtone,Birthday,Homepage, Home

    address, Company name, Jobtitle, Companyaddressand aMemo.

    Touch7 Saveto save the contact.

    Creating a group

    From the home screen touch1and select the Communicationtab. Touch Contactsand selectGroups.

    Touch2 .

    Select3 Create new group.

    Enter a name for your new group.4

    Touch5 Save.

    NOTE:If you delete a group, thecontacts which were assigned tothat group will not be lost. They willremain in your contacts.

    TIP!You can edit an existinggroup by highlighting it andtouching .

    Changing your contact

    settingsYou can adapt your contact settingsso that your Contacts suits your ownpreferences.

    TIP!To scroll through a list ofoptions, touch the last itemvisible and slide your finger upthe screen. The list will move upso more items are visible.

    From the Communication tab1touch Contactsand touch .SelectSettings.

    From here you can adjust the2 following settings:

    Contact list settings - You canalso choose to show the firstname or last name of a contact

    first. You can display with quickcommand key among Make voicecall, Make video call or Send amessage.

    Synchronisecontacts-

    Connect to your server tosynchronise your contacts. SeeSynchronising your contacts.

    Export contacts- Copy yourcontacts from your USIM to your

    handset or from your handsetto your USIM. Choose to do thisone at a time, or all at once. If youselect one at a time, youll needto select each contact to copyone by one.

    Import contacts- This works inthe same way as Copy, but thecontact will only be saved to the

    location youve moved it to. So,if you move a contact from theUSIM to the handset it will bedeleted from the USIM memory.

    Send all contacts via

    Bluetooth- Send all of yourcontacts to another device usingBluetooth. You will be promptedto turn on Bluetooth if you selectthis option.

    Clear contacts- Delete all yourcontacts. Touch Yesif you aresure you want to wipe yourcontacts.

    Messaging

    Messaging

    Your GT505 combines SMS, MMSand email into one intuitive andeasy to use menu.

    There are two ways to enter themessaging centre:

    From the home screen, touch1or touch , then select

    Communicationand chooseMessaging.

    Sending a message

    Touch1 then Newmessagetoopen a blank message.

    From here you can choose2

    Messageto send an SMS orMMS.

    Touch3 Insertto add an image,video, sound, New slide, Subject

    or More (Business card, Schedule,Memo, To do or My businesscard).

    Touch4 Recipientto enter the

    recipients number, or touchthe search icon to open yourcontacts. You can add multiplecontacts. When you are finished,touch Send.

    WARNING:You will becharged per 160 character textmessage for each person thatyou send the message to.

    WARNING:If an image,video or sound is added to anSMS it will be automaticallyconvert to an MMS and you will

    be charged accordingly.

    Entering text

    There are five ways to enter text:Keypad, Keyboard, Handwriting-Screen, Handwriting-Box,Handwriting-Double Box.

    Tap the screen once, then thekeyboard shows up.

    Touch to turn on T9 predictivetext.

    You can change the writinglanguages.

    Tap to change betweenthe numbers, symbols and textskeypads.

    Use to scroll through thedifferent keyboard types in eachtext entry mode (for example,capitals or lowercase).

    To enter a space touch .

    T9 predictive

    In T9 mode you will see .T9 mode uses a built-in dictionaryto recognise words youre writingbased on the key sequences youtouch. Simply touch the number keyassociated with the letter you wantto enter, and the dictionary willpredict the word you want to use.

    For example, press 8, 3, 5, 3, 7, 4, 6,

    6, 3 to write telephone.

    Abc manual

    In Abc mode you must touch thekey repeatedly to enter a letter.

    For example, to write hello, touch4 twice, 3 twice, 5 three times,5 three times again, then 6 threetimes.

    Using the flash

    The default flash setting is auto, butthere are other options.

    Select1 from the left side ofthe viewfinder to enter the flashsub-menu.

    There are three flash options:2

    Auto- Your camera will assess thelight available for a good pictureand use the flash as necessary.

    Always off- The camera willnever flash. This is useful if youwant to save battery power.

    Always on- The camera will

    always flash.When you touch the option3you want, the flash menu willautomatically close, allowing youto take a picture immediately.

    The flash status icon in the4viewfinder will change, based onthe new flash mode.

    Adjusting the exposure

    The exposure defines the differencebetween light and dark areas inan image. A low contrast imagewill appear foggy, whereas a highcontrast image will appear much

    sharper.

    Taking a continuous shot

    From the viewfinder, touch1to open all advanced settingsoptions and select Shot modeand then Continuous shot.

    Position the subject in the2viewfinder and press the capturebutton as if taking a normalphoto.

    Using the advanced settings

    From the viewfinder, touch toopen all advanced settings options.

    After selecting the option, touch theOKbutton.

    Swap cam- For self portraits, switchto the LG GT505s inner camera.

    Scene mode- Set the camera

    to adjust to the environment.Choose from Auto, Night, Portrait,Landscape, Beach, Sport and Party.

    Colour effect - Choose a colourtone to use on your new photo. See

    Timer - The self-timer allows youto set a delay after the shutter ispressed. Select Off, 3seconds,5 secondsor 10 seconds. This isideal if you want to be included in

    a photo.Shot mode- Choose the normalor continuous shot mode or Frameshot.

    Super fine, Fineand Normal. Thefiner the quality, the sharper thephoto. However, the file size willincrease as a result, which meansyoull be able to store fewer photos

    Preview style- Choose the previewstyle.

    Memory in use- Choose whetherto save your photos to the Handsetmemory or the External memory.

    Shake reduction- Enables you to

    take a photo without the camerawobbling or shaking.

    Show captured image- Select

    show the image or not after takinga photo.

    TIP!When you exit the cameraall settings will return to theirdefaults, except image size andimage quality. Any non-defaultsettings will need to be reset,such as colour tone. Checkthese before you take your nextphoto.

    The more pixels, the larger the file,

    Using the inner camera

    Your LG GT505 has an inner 640x480camera for both video calls andtaking photos.

    To switch to the inner camera1touch then select Swap camfrom the Preview menu.

    After a few seconds youll see2yourself in the viewfinder. Tocapture the image, press the side

    button as normal.

    TIP!The inner camera has fewersettings as it has no flash noradjustable sensitivity. You can

    still alter the image size, coloureffect, image quality, whitebalance and set the self-timerby touching in the sameway as when using the main

    camera.

    Draw something on your

    photo, freehand. Select the linethickness from the four options,then the colour you want to use.

    Decorate your photo

    Using date finder

    Date finder is a handy tool to helpyou calculate what the date will beafter a certain amount of days haspassed. For example, 60 days from10.10.07 will be 09.12.2007.

    If you set the Ask always modeas default, the phone will alwaysprompt you to select a type of USBconnection mode each time youconnect the phone to a PC via the

    data cable. If you disable the Askalways mode, the connection modewill be the one you have manuallyset in Menu - Settings - Connectivity- USB Mode and one of the optionsMass storage, PC suiteor Musicsync.

    You can synchronise your PC withyour phone to make sure all your

    important details and dates match,but also to backup your files to putyour mind at ease.

    Installing LG PC Suite on your

    RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is afamily of web feed formats used topublish frequently updated contentsuch as blog entries, news headlinesor podcasts. An RSS document,

    which is called a feed, web feed, orchannel, contains either a summaryof content from an associated website or the full text. RSS makes itpossible for people to keep up

    with their favourite web sites in anautomated manner that is easierthan checking them manually.The user subscribes to a feed by

    entering the feeds link into thereader or by clicking an RSS iconin a browser that initiates thesubscription process. The readerchecks the users subscribed

    seconds to several minutes. Assisted GPS(A-GPS ) on this

    mobile is used to retrievelocation assistance data overpacket data connection.

    Pairing with another

    Bluetooth deviceBy pairing your GT505 and anotherdevice, you can set up a passcodeprotected connection. This meansyour pairing is more secure.

    Check your Bluetooth is1 OnandVisible. You can change yourvisibility in the Settingsmenu.

    Touch2 Search.

    Your GT505 will search for3devices. When the search iscompleted Refreshwill appearon screen.

    pair with and enter a passcode,then touch OK.
