LG Nexus 4 E960 – Teardown Guide

Battery

Begin to teardown the LG Nexus 4 by removing the back cover. Locate the two T5 torx screws that are located on either side of the dock port. Remove the two screws with the appropriate screwdriver.







• Next, insert the plastic opening tool in the notch in the back cover of the LG smartphone. Pry at this point to release the clips holding the cover to the phone. You can now remove the back cover from the LG E960.








• With the back cover off, the battery is visible. The battery has two Phillips screws (#00) securing its terminal to the smartphone. Remove the two screws to release the battery from the Nexus 4.








• With the terminal screws removed, the battery can be easily removed. It is secured down with a small amount of adhesive. Use the spudger to separate the battery from the adhesive securing it to the LG smartphone.








• Locate and remove the two Phillips screws (#00) holding the loudspeaker to the smartphone with the appropriate screwdriver.


Loudspeaker Assembly







• Use the spudger to maneuver and remove the loudspeaker assembly out of its housing in the Nexus 4.








• Locate and remove the nine Phillips screws (#00) that secure the rear housing cover to the Nexus 4.

• With the securing screws removed, the rear housing cover can be removed from the LG Nexus 4.









• Use the spudger to pry up and release the headphone jack and proximity sensor assembly connection. This will allow you to lift and remove the headphone jack from the Nexus 4.









• Use the spudger to release the large display assembly connection, andthen peel it up from the motherboard.


Rear-Facing Camera








• Continuing with the spudger, pry and release the connection for the rear-facing camera.

• You can now remove the rear-facing camera from the Nexus 4.









• Use the SIM card eject tool or a paperclip to remove the SIM card tray from the side of the LG Nexus 4.


SIM Card Tray








• Two ribbon cable plugs and one antenna connector secure the motherboard to the LG smartphone.

• Use the spudger to gently pry up, release, and then remove these threeconnections.









• With all of the connections released from the motherboard, themotherboard is now free to lift and remove from the body of the LGNexus 4.


Front-Facing Camera







• The front-facing camera is still secured to the bottom side of the motherboard. Use the spudger to swipe at and release its connection.

• You can now remove the front-facing camera from the Nexus 4.









• The dock port assembly is secured with a small amount of adhesive. Usethe spudger to peel up and remove this assembly from the LG Nexus 4.


Dock Port Assembly







• Use the heat gun/blow drier to heat the adhesive securing the LCD and touch screen assembly to the smartphone’s frame/front housing.


Display Assembly (LCD & Touch Screen)







• To begin the separation of the display assembly from the plastic frame, insert the plastic opening tool in the earpiece speaker’s opening to begin prying the display assembly from the frame/front housing.

• Continue to work the plastic opening tool around the perimeter of the display assembly and frame until they are completely separated.
