Introduction Note: Most NetCast LG TV’s do not support the power on or discrete inputs. They must be used with devices that support HDMI CEC (LG SIMPLINK) – for example, Chromecast.

The release of the LG TV IP driver lets you integrate LG televisions with the Clare Controls Network. Customers can now control their LG TV through IP using the Clare Controls App. No software or download is necessary. Simply connect the LG TV to the home network, add the TV in Fusion, and then pair the LG TV to the project.

This integration release supports all NetCast (non-Web OS) based LG TVs 2012 and newer, and Google Chromecast.

Notes The Chromecast must be connected to LG TV for this driver to operate.

You must set a static IP address for the LG TV.

Installation Only qualified technicians should install and connect devices used with Clare Controls products. Refer to the installation instructions that came with the LG TV. Clare Controls does not assume any responsibility for damages caused by improper installation or connection to the data network.

To collect the LG TV network settings: 1. Turn the LG TV on, and then browse to the TV’s Network Settings.

Menu > Network > Network Status Note: Menu options vary based on LG model.

2. Set the static IP address.

3. Note the MAC Address and IP Address. The MAC Address and IP Address are required for Fusion configuration.

4. Exit the TV menu.

To get the Chromecast hostname: 1. Connect the Chromecast to the LG TV HDMI 3 Input. Use the instructions

provided with your Chromecast device.

2. Look at Chromecast screensaver on the LG TV. The bottom-left corner displays the Chromecast hostname. For example – Chromecast1654.local.

3. Write down the hostname, this is required for Fusion programming.

4. Add the LG TV in Fusion.

Note: The TV will power on to HDMI 3 and can then be changed to the desired Input. See “To configure the scene:” on page 6.

Fusion configuration Configure the device in Fusion to enable the LG TV to function with the Clare Controls UI.

To add the LG TV IP Driver: 1. Access the project.

2. Click the Devices tab, and then click the New Device button .

The Select Template dialog displays.

3. Browse to LG TV’s – 2013+ (IP).

Entertainment IP Devices > TV > LG TV’s – 2013+ (IP) Note: The Communication Method drop-down is unavailable.

4. Click OK.

The device Details tab displays. If desired, enter a name and notes for the device.

5. Click the Configure tab, and then enter the Network Address, Chromecast host name, and MAC Address in their corresponding fields.

6. Verify that the Network Port is set to 80.

Note: Leave the Authorization Code field blank. You will get the code after pairing the LG TV.

7. Click the Save button , and then assign the device to an area.

To create a service for the LG TV IP Driver: Note: You must use an HDMI CEC (LG SIMPLINK) supported device with the LG TV to enable remote start.

1. Click the Services tab, and then click the New Service Instance button .

The New Service Instance dialog displays.

2. Enter the name of the service in the Name field, select the area, and then click Entertainment Service.

3. Click Next to display the Devices tab.

4. In the left panel, select the devices you want to use in the service. 5. In the right panel, set the values for each control point by clicking the Value

field to view the drop-down menu, and then selecting the device. 6. Click Next to display the Scenes tab.

To configure the scene: Notes

Most LG TVs do not support Power On via IP. A device that supports HDMI CEC (LG SIMPLINK) can be used for power if available.

HDMI CEC must be enabled in each device. See the instructions that came with the HDMI CEC supporting device.

1. In the Start Sequence field, select Create new Scene, and then click the New Device Operation button .

2. Configure the Device, Function, and Operation drop-down menus with the values below. Device: LG TV’s - 2013+ (IP) Function: Switch Operation: On Note: This command is sent directly to Chromecast, turning the TV on (via HDMI CEC) and switching to the Chromecast input. You can create a scene to switch inputs.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each device being used in the scene.

4. Scroll to the Stop Sequence field, select Create new Scene, and then click

the New Device Operation button .

5. Configure the Device, Function, and Operation drop-down menus with the values below. Device: LG TV’s - 2013+ (IP) Function: Switch Operation: Turn Off

LG TV pairing After you have configured the LG TV in Fusion, created services, and deployed the project, pair the device to your project. You must access the LG TV and Fusion to pair the television.

To pair the device to your project: 1. Turn on the LG TV.

2. Access the LG TV in Fusion, and then click the Test Tab.

3. Expand the Network Device Authorization, and then click Start Pairing. Fusion displays a request dialog, this dialog disappears once pairing starts.

4. Click Send Pairing Code. Fusion displays an Operation Arguments dialog.

5. Look at the LG TV. A small dialog box displays. This dialog contains the authorization code.

6. Enter the authorization code in the Operations Arguments IN1 field in Fusion, and then click Execute.

7. The pairing result displays, click OK.

Note: The authorization code on the TV will disappear after the device is paired, or, if the device has been idle too long.

8. Click the Configure tab, and then enter the code in the Authorization Code field.

9. Click the Save button , and then deploy the project.

User interface example Once you have configured and deployed your project, access the entertainment service created for the projector. Note: There are no discrete codes for input control in this driver, so the inputs must be controlled manually. To change the source of the LG TV, you must access the menu and browse to inputs. – or – You can create a custom entertainment button to toggle sources. To create a custom entertainment button, see the Clare Controls Knowledge Base article Custom Entertainment Buttons.

To access the service in the Clare Controls App: 1. Tap to run the app, and then select your user space. 2. Tap to view the inventory page.

3. Tap Entertainment.

4. Tap the area that you want to access – for example, Game Room. – or –

Tap to add the area to your space. Return to your space and tap to access the service.

5. The area displays. 6. Tap in the top-right corner, and then tap LG TV.

7. The service entertainment remote displays.

Note: The buttons on the virtual Clare Controls remote correspond with the configured LG control points.

The LG TV now successfully functions with the Clare Controls App.
