Group load factors for August 2010 compared with last year

    Strong demand continues

As in previous months, sales in August showed a further increase.

The 15.0 per cent growth in capacity in the passenger business due

to the consolidation of new companies was almost fully sold

(+14.1%). As a result, the passenger load factor came in at a strong

83.2 per cent. On a like-for-like basis (i.e. excluding Austrian Airlines,

including bmi restructuring since July) capacity in the Passenger

Airline Group rose by 3.3 per cent. Together with a sales increase of2.5 per cent, this resulted in a passenger load factor of 83.2 per cent

as well. All traffic regions reported positive developments. Especially

in the Asia (88.4%) and Americas (87.4%) traffic regions the high

load factors were maintained. As in previous months, pricing trends

remained strong in August as well.

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines achieved a high load factor of 82.9

per cent (-0.6 pp). The use of larger aircraft meant that capacity went

up by 5.7 per cent, whereas the number of flights only increased by

3.5 per cent. In the Americas traffic region, sales fell by 2.2 per cent

as a result of more restrictive, yield-focussed management. The pas-

senger load factor came to a particularly good 86.3 per cent. In Asia,

the passenger load factor improved even further to 88.3 per cent

(+1.6 pp), with sales growth (+5.7%) outstripping the 3.8 per cent risein capacity. The passenger load factor was also up in Europe

    (75.2%, +1.4 pp).

SWISS carried more passengers this August than in the same period

last year (+3.4%). The bulk of the 8.0 per cent increase in capacity

was sold (+6.8%), keeping the passenger load factor very high at

    86.3 per cent (-1.0 pp).

A similarly high passenger load factor of 83.3 per cent (+1.5 pp) was

also reported by Austrian Airlines. Sales (+2.8%) were well above

the slight expansion of capacity (+0.9%). Austrian Airlines carried

11.3 per cent more passengers than last year.

Evidence of the sustainable restructuring of bmi can be seen in a

sharp adjustment to capacity (-28.0%). This was accompanied by aload factor of 78.6 per cent (-2.5 pp).

At Lufthansa Cargo the positive trend continues. Driven in particular

by strong demand in the Americas traffic region and the consolidation

of Austrian Airlines' freight business, sales climbed by 16.2 per cent.

After expanding capacity by 12.4 per cent, Lufthansa Cargo im-

proved its load factor to 68.3 per cent (+2.2 pp year on year).

Closer cooperation between Lufthansa and Germanwings Luf-

thansa and Germanwings agreed on a wide-ranging set of measures

as part of their future collaboration. From 1 September 2010 Miles &

More members can not only redeem their miles for all Germanwings

flights, but also collect premium miles as well. The fixed mile num-

bers for individual booking classes on Lufthansa flights now apply to

Germanwings connections too. Boomerang Club, the Germanwingsfrequent flyer programme, will continue to exist independently of the

Miles & More partnership. Members of both frequent flyer pro-

grammes can decide before each flight which programme they would

like to collect miles for. From early 2011 it will be possible to combine

fares for Lufthansa and Germanwings flights (interlining). This means

that travel agents and Lufthansa sales outlets will be able to book

and sell outbound and return legs for both companies in one step

and from a single supplier. The result will be greater flexibility for

customers of both airlines in terms of travel and booking options. It is

also hoped that a cooperation agreement will be in place for corpo-

rate client business by early 2011.

Third Airbus A380 named "Peking" Lufthansas third Airbus A380

was delivered in late August and commenced scheduled services to

Beijing on 1 September. The flight plan for the A380 initially includesone flight a week to this destination but Lufthansa strives to gradually

increase the frequency of the service in coordination with the Chi-

nese authorities. From 12 September Lufthansa will be operating the

A380 to Johannesburg on Thursdays and Sundays.

10th anniversary of Lufthansa Technik PhilippinesLufthansa Technik Philippines, one of the largest providers of aircraft

overhaul services in the Asian area, is celebrating its tenth anniver-

sary. The joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MacroAsia

Corporation was established in 2000 with 1,300 employees and has

since developed into an internationally recognised MRO facility with

2,700 staff. Lufthansa Technik Philippines specialises in the

A330/340 and A320 families of aircraft and is the Lufthansa Technik

group's most important MRO operation for Airbus planes outside

    Germany.

New customer business and contract renewals for Lufthansa

Systems Both TUIfly Nordic and Thomas Cook will in future be

flying with navigation maps from Lufthansa Systems. China Cargo is

also aiming to achieve efficient load planning using IT from Lufthansa

Systems. The contract in place for eight years with Singapore Air-

lines for IT to optimise flight-path planning was renewed for a further

three years. Egyptair has also decided to adopt this flight-path plan-

ning solution. The Polish airline LOT was acquired as the first cus-

tomer for the recently launched Web Kiosk.

Contract renewal and joint venture at LSG Sky Chefs LSG Sky

Chefs has signed an extensive catering contract with Air Canada.

The new contract covers eight airports in North America, four inEurope, two in Asia and another four in Latin America. Expansion

into new markets with growth potential is also continuing apace. LSG

Sky Chefs has established a joint venture with Bulgaria Air to set up

a catering facility at Sofia airport with an initial capacity of around

    3,000 meals per day

The next Investor Info with the traffic data for September will be

    published on 11 October 2010.
