Investor Info J anuary 2011

Investor Relations

Sales growth continues in 2011

The Lufthansa Group reported strong year-on-year sales growth in

J anuary, despite the extreme winter weather disrupting flight operations

in the USA and the unrest in the traffic region Middle East/Africa. Also, the replacement of smaller aircraft with larger ones continues as part of

the fleet rollover, further optimising unit costs on short-haul routes. The

result of this was that the number of flights rose by less than the

increase in capacity. Although load factors in the intercontinental

regions were slightly down on the same month last year, the load factor

in the Europe traffic region improved despite considerable additional

capacity. Demand and pricing remained robust in J anuary, with the

known distinction between short-haul and long-haul traffic.

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines increased its sales sharply in all

regions, registering a significant improvement of 2.0 percentage points

in the passenger load factor in Europe. SWISS too recorded a double-

digit increase in capacity and sales in J anuary while maintaining a highpassenger load factor. By contrast,  Austrian Airl ines only made

marginal additions to capacity and its sales declined slightly. Both the

market environment and the EU limits on capacity represent challenges.

At bmi the focus remains on restructuring, so capacity and sales were

both well down on last year. Lufthansa Cargo was able to increase

capacity and sales substantially by over 20 per cent in a positive pricing

environment. Additional capacities came mainly from the reactivation of

previously decommissioned freighters and the fleet expansion at

AeroLogic in the course of the year 2010.

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines rearrange organisational structure Following the appointment of Carsten Spohr as CEO of

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines with effect from 1 J anuary 2011, the organisational structure is to be adapted as of 1 April 2011 to the

changes in the market environment. They are intended to facilitate a sharper focus on customers and competition as well as to expedite

internal decision-making and management processes. The divisionalisation strategy is also to be continued.

Pay settlement with cabin staff agreed Lufthansa and the trade union Unabhängige Flugbegleiter Organisation UFO e.V. have

reached an agreement, thus concluding the round of collective bargaining that began in March 2010. The arbitration settlement includes

rules on extending the wage agreement and revising the framework agreement, both of which apply to around 16,000 Lufthansa flight

attendants. The wage agreement provides for a pay freeze until end of 2011.

San Francisco to be fifth Ai rbus A380 destination The A380 will fly daily from Frankfurt to San Francisco from 10 May 2011. As of

today, Lufthansa will be the first and only airline there to offer arrivals and departures with an A380. By deploying the A380, Lufthansa

is increasing capacity on flights to San Francisco by 31 per cent.

The next Investor Info with the traffic data for February will be published on 10 March 2011.
