Traffic figures include Germanwings for the first time Non-
recurring factors depress passenger business, Cargo remains
positive
The developments in Japan and the ongoing unrest in Middle
East/Africa had a tangible influence on the Groups traffic figures inMarch. Capacity at the Passenger Airline Group rose in March 2011
by 7.5 per cent due to the ongoing fleet rollover, whereas the number
of flights was only up 1.2 per cent on last year. Sales increased by 0.3
per cent while the passenger load factor fell by 5.3 percentage points to
73.5 per cent. For the first time these performance figures also include
Germanwings. Cumulative figures as well as those for last year have
been adjusted accordingly. Their inclusion had no significant impact on
the traffic figures (without Germanwings: capacity +7.8%, sales +0.5%,
load factor -5.4 pp to 73.6%). As in prior months, the distinction in
demand and pricing between long-haul and short-haul routes remained
pronounced in March.
Lufthansa Passenger Airlines sold 1.1 per cent more capacity than ayear ago, driven primarily by performance in the Europe traffic region.
SWISS increased capacity by 10.2 per cent and sales by 4.7 per cent.
The situation in Japan and especially in North Africa depressed traffic
figures forAustrian Airlines and bmi in particular.
Performance at Lufthansa Cargo remained much stronger. It was
again able to report a double-digit rise in sales and also profited from
higher load factors ex-Germany.

Flexible reaction to developments in Japan Lufthansa responded to developments in Japan with flexible adjustments to its
capacity. The Airbus A380 previously flown from Frankfurt to Tokyo is now being deployed to New York, as Tokyo is being served by
smaller planes in view of the current situation. Adjustments to future developments are possible at short notice at any time thanks to the
high degree of flexibility. Lufthansa Cargo and the European Commission put on a special flight from Frankfurt to Tokyo free of charge.
The MD-11 freighter transported around 70 tonnes of emergency aid supplies.
Expansion of the A380 route network Following New York and San Francisco, Lufthansa is to introduce Miami as the sixth A380
destination, with daily flights from Frankfurt beginning 10 June. Furthermore, the A380 service to Beijing can be offered daily from 10
April thanks to additional air-traffic rights.
Group decides to modernise and expand aircraft fleet The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG has approved orders for
30 aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family for the Passenger Airline Group and for five Boeing 777F freighters for the Logistics segment.
The new aircrafts great cost-effectiveness will further enhance the competitive position of the Group airlines.
Financial calendar On 3 May 2011 the Annual General Meeting of Deutsche Lufthansa AG will be taking place in Berlin. Theinterim report for the first quarter will be published on 5 May 2011. The next Investor Info with traffic data for April will be published on
10 May 2011.
