The Global Honors program was able to collect almost $300 to go to a worthy cause, thanks to loose change and charitable students.

The program decided to raise money for Doctors With-out Borders by having members compete in Penny Wars. Students were divided into teams based on their year but freshmen were divided into their Freshmen Development Groups.

Each group got their own bucket labeled with their team name. Positive points were given to a team whenever pennies were placed into a teams bucket, with each penny equaling a point. However, points were taken away if anything besides pen-nies were placed in the bucket, with the deducted points being equivalent to the coins value.

Doctors Without Borders is an organization that pro-vides medical care to countries around the world. They as-sist with people that have been a part of a violent situation, who have been neglected, or even been through any type of catastrophe. The money people donate goes to getting medical supplies that help to save peoples lives.

You dont really get to see what your organization is all about until you really get together and do something that represents something bigger than yourself. Participat-ing in the Penny Wars with Honors was one of those mo-ments that really put everything into perspective for me, Sierra Aichner, a sophomore Secondary Education English and Spanish major stated. I absolutely love being a part

of honors programs for reasons like these. Everyone really chipped in and got in the spirit! I am so proud of what we have done together,

)RU WKH *OREDO +RQRUV 3URJUDPV UVW WLPH UDLVLQJmoney for this organization, they collected more than their goal of $80 for a total of $294. This means that 74 injured LQGLYLGXDOVZLOOJHWWKHDQWLELRWLFVQHHGHGWRJKWDQ\LQ-fections they have.

It was honestly a craze. Once one person put in a lot of pennies than more people kept showing up,

and the money kept coming in, Sar-ah Filipski, a pre-physical thera-

py major and a Global Honors Program Student Associate Director stated.

Since the annual talent show takes up much of their

attention in the fall semester, the program is hoping that they can con-

tinue Penny Wars every spring semester to make it an annual event. The only thing that would change yearly is the organization that receiving the donation.

I was stunned to learn that the total amount raised was over 3.5 times more than our goal! I am very proud of Shelby Helwig for organizing the event and for all who par-ticipated in the program. Said Jacqueline Whitling, Glob-al Honors Director and a chemistry professor, mentioned.

As an incentive for the students, Professor Whitling had agreed to get pied in the face by Filipski if the fund-raisers met their goal.

Im glad I like whip cream pie, Whitling joked. The program looks forward to seeing how everything

comes together next year and if they can beat their goal once again.

You dont really get to see what your organization is all about until

you really get together and do something that represents

    something bigger than yourself.

Students take back the nightKyra [email protected]

Dozens of students lined up in front of Price Auditorium to take a stand against sexual assault and violence at an annual Take Back the Night event on April 1.

Take Back the Night is a nationwide movement to encourage people to speak out and support survivors. At LHU, it was sponsored by the Gay Straight Alliance and the Gender Equality and Liberation club, along with numerous other clubs and the Hope Center.

Professor Lisette Schillig, from the English Department and the Director of the Hope Center, asked to start the event with a moment of silence for Carlie Hall, a freshman from Millersburg University who was killed in February, allegedly by her boyfriend.

The event featured speakers who were students, faculty and representatives from the Clinton County Womens Center.

The audience was composed of a relatively equal number of men and women, which was mentioned several times as an encouraging sign.

Guys should be concerned, but what reason do they have to worry about it? They dont think that it might happen to them, said Tim Baylor, a sociology professor. We are intimately tied to the issue by the women we are connected to. I believe that men are what we need to help end sexual assault, he added.

The Department of Justice reports that 1 in 71 men will be raped in their lifetime, but that number is distorted by males who dont report being raped because of stereotypes or uncertainty.

The obstacle course required to report sexual assault is ridiculous, said Noah Penny, a junior majoring in recreation management. Something needs to happen here on campus.

Several speakers shared their experiences as survivors or their friends and encouraged the audience to support people they know in any way possible. One of the best ways to help is to encourage them to consult with professionals.

Options around campus include the Hope Center or the Clinton County Womens Center.

Professor Tara Mitchell, from the psychology department and the Hope Center board of directors, stepped up to the microphone. She asked members of the audience to climb up the stairs and count off from one to 48.

Youve heard a lot of statistics, but I want to show you one. Weve been here 75 minutes, said Professor Mitchell. In the time weve been here, 48 people in the United States have been raped.

The end of the event was a march around campus, where students voices echoed across campus as they chanted, Take back the night!

Fear gathers silence and silence doesnt protect you, Amy Downs, a social work professor, said. We have strength together, if we stand together.

Lock Haven Universitys Sports Administration Department held an alum-ni discussion panel on March 26 where six alums visited to discuss how they were able to make it from a small-time school and secure important roles in other businesses.

Look out simmers, theres a new expansion pack out for the newest in-stallment to Maxis famous Sims se-ries! Hope you have some time to kill because The Sims 4: Get To Work will keep you entertained for hours!

Released on Tuesday, the newest installment allows simmers to control their Sims at the workplace. Get to Work is a mixture between the Sims 3: Ambitions and the Sims 2: Open For Business. This expansion embod-ies a pack that has been long awaited in the Sim community.

There are now three new active careers in Get to Work, doctor, scien-tist and detective. With the introduc-tion of these new careers, there is also the introduction of venues for each career where players will follow their Sims to.

Focusing on the doctor career, a player will fol-low their future miracle worker to the hospital where they will be intro-duced to gameplay similar to the events in the Sims 4 base game. Instead of having

a main goal to achieve, players will have different tasks they must complete to move the bar.

There are three lev-els bronze, silver and gold. Achieving gold helps the player out ma-jorly as it leads to quick promotions, which unlocks different positions and re-sponsibilities. As a doctor, a Sim can treat patients, perform emer-gencies and even deliver babies.

The other active careers run in much the same way as the doctor ca-reer, only they have different tasks. A detective investigates crime scenes and interrogates suspects, while a scientist must do research and make amazing discoveries.

One of the newest gems, and a shout out to Open for Busi-

ness, is the new ability to own different types of retail

businesses. Simmers can now own various shops,

such as a photography gallery, an art gallery,

bookstores, bakeries and even a clothing boutique.

All of these businesses are made possible by the in-

troduction of a new neighbor-hood known as Magnolia

    Promenade. Magnolia Promenade

is small, (a tiny disap-pointment in an expan-sion as vast with Sim

possibilities as this one), with a total of four lots for

businesses. Its beautiful to look at during the short run to

and from your Sims shop.Despite the small world, the im-

portant part remains, you really do rule your Sims workplace. I have a Sim named Liam and he has a fashion boutique affectionately named Li-ams Fabulous Fashions, and I was awestruck by the amount of things I could do while he was at work.

As the owner of your business, you completely control employees, uniforms, prices, sales and more. Your Sim can even schmooze customers and secure sales!

A small blue bar tells you how close a Sim is to being sucked into a sale and at the top, where the cus-tomers name is, it will say whether

they are receptive or not to your sales pitch. You get the full retail experi-ence and its wonderful.

In addition to creating practically any retail business, Get to Work also introduces two new skills to the game. The photography skill and the baking skill. While the photography skill is short and you get to capture anything you want, take pictures with friends and store memories, perfect for those story driven players.

As for baking, the skill is a full Sim skill with 10 levels and all kinds

of recipes. The baking skill al-lows players to decorate cakes

or cookies and works along-side the pre-existing cup-

cake factory for much of its recipes.

The addition of these skills and busi-

nesses allows many new realms of gameplay for

simmers, an addition that will allow for more diversity

in the stories created.Thumbs up for EA on this one,

this pack is well worth the 40 dollars. Time for all my simmers out there to Get to Work!

$QHZ1HWL[2ULJLQDO6HULHVPDGHLWVGHEXWRQ0DUFKUnbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt is a comedy produced by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, most commonly known as the producers of 30 Rock.

The series tells the story about two people who are trying to make it in the Big Apple after fac-ing a few setbacks while trying to reach their dream. Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper from Bridesmaids, wants to forget about her past and move on. Titus, a gay black man, played by Tituss Burgess, just wanted to be on Broadway but never made it.

The story begins when Kimmy and three other women were discovered in a bunker in Durnsville, Indi-ana after having been missing for 17 years.

When Kimmy moves to New York she meets Titus and the two encourage each other to pursue their dreams which are for Kimmy to get her

GED and a job and for Titus to perform live on Broadway. .LPP\QGVDMREDVDKRXVHNHHSHUIRUVRFLDOLWH-DQH.DUNRZVNLDQG7L-

WXVQGVDMREDWDWKHPHGUHVWDXUDQWZKHUHKHPXVWGUHVVXSDVDZHUHZROIAs a fan of many of Tina Feys works, I have noticed that she likes to poke

fun at society and how the media plays a huge role in the viewers perception. It seems to be obvious that she is making light of how easy it is for

people to become famous because of bizarre antics. ,QRQHHSLVRGH LWVHHPVWKDW7LWXVZLOOQDOO\EHFRPH

famous because he embarrassed himself on live TV and it got a lot of views on Youtube. It also seems that Fey and Carlock make fun of the cult culture and their religious beliefs. The show is a reminder that people face adversities but its light hearted twist to han-dling it with humor.

Before I watched the show, I had high-expecta-tions, because I knew Tina Fey was one of the execu-

Philadelphia Flyers owner and chairman Ed Snider grabbed a seat next to captain Claude Gi-roux early last week as the Flyers assembled for their annual team photo.

If theres anything that we know from Snider, its that he wants to win, every season. He was quoted last season in the press conference after the ULQJRIH[KHDGFRDFK3HWHU/DYLROHWWHWHOOLQJUH-porters that the Flyers are always in the hunt.

Thats been the M.O. of this organization for years, basically since they were founded in 1967. And who has been the Flyers owner since they were founded? You got it: Ed Snider.

But that statement sums up the reason why the Flyers have been Stanley Cup-less for 40 years now. There comes a time when you have to re-group, rebuild and start fresh. Always being in the hunt is a phrase that every Flyers fan, in their right mind, should be tired of hearing about.

7KH)O\HUVFOLPEHGZLWKLQIRXUSRLQWVRIWKH-nal playoff spot going into a game at the Bruins, ZKRKHOGWKHQDO(DVWHUQ&RQIHUHQFHSOD\RIIVSRWon March 7. The Flyers clawed themselves back from 14 points out in January and people were starting to become excited about this team.

They had wins over the Capitals, Predators and Rangers all within the past two weeks. But Wayne Simmonds took a penalty with 2:03 left, Boston

tied the game at two with 15 seconds left in the game and eventually won the game in overtime 3-2, pushing the Flyers six points out of a playoff spot.

That, right there, has been the story of the Fly-ers season.

As the end of the season nears, it cant get here soon enough for the Flyers. There is good news, KRZHYHUDQGLWVWKDWWKHUVW\HDUJHQHUDOPDQ-ager, by making trades has put the Flyers in a posi-WLRQZKHUHWKH\KDYHVHYHQGUDIWSLFNVLQWKHUVWfour rounds.

7KRVH LQFOXGH WZR UVW URXQGHUV RQH IURPTampa Bay and one when the Flyers can get as high as the sixth best chance of winning the lottery to get the No. 1 pick.

It is a good sign because it seems that Hextall has a plan. They made trades at the trade deadline WKDWKDYHDGHQLWHFKDQFHRIEHQHWLQJWKHWHDPbig time in the future.

Build through the draft, be patient with young talent and build an elite team that will contend year after year.

That may take two or more years.Ed thinks it might take the summer. In an interview with Sam Donnellon, a colum-

nist for the Philadelphia Daily News, Snider was quoted as saying, Being patient with kids, draft picks theyre not our answer right now.

I mean, for us to give up now and say were not a playoff team and weve got to be patient and all that kind of thing, sends the wrong message, I think. To our guys who are here, to the fans, to everybody, Snider told Donnellon.

Ah, yes, there it is. Sniders winning-only, ev-ery single season attitude may be fueled by the memory of half-empty arenas, or the fear of them.

Still, at 82 years old, he is one of the greatest hockey fans Philadelphia will ever see and he has put his heart and soul into the Flyers.

He wants more in less time he always has. But what the Flyers need to get away from is their short-term decision making that has haunted the franchise for decades.

That very short-term decision making is exact-ly what Hextall is trying to get away from and as long as Snider is here, that is never going to hap-pen. Snider is the reason why the Flyers franchise has faltered, coming so close only a handful of times and never coming out on top.

Maybe hes waiting for the second coming of Giroux. Maybe hes waiting for Matt Read and Sean Couturier to come around, which the Flyers were hoping would have happened in the past three years.

Maybe hes waiting for the good crop of players that the Flyers have down on the farm, or the slew of draft picks they have in this years draft.

But all of those things cant come soon enough for an owner who has seen a lot of heartache and hockey, but has not seen a lot of cups.

After all, this is the Flyers. Anything can hap-pen. But until Snider changes his ways, we can all expect the same things to happen, over and over again.

With spring right around corner (and 60 degree temperatures this week!) that can only mean that summer is not far off. For many of us, summer is a chance to relax and break free of the deadlines we were held to throughout the school year. A good portion of college students spend their summers working and saving up money for school, vacations and some splurges here and there. When I think of summer, a word that always comes to my mind is tradi-tions.

Each person and family is different and we all like different things. My family has many traditions and many traditions that only occur during sum-mer which always makes me yearn for them (especially true when its almost April and still 25 degrees below normal temperatures). Nothing makes it feel like summer to my family more than a cookout over the charcoal grill. Fantasy sports a fun way to competeTyler PotoskiGuest [email protected]

Fantasy sports have long been a tradition that many fanatics around the world participate in religiously. Like managing their own personal team, fan-tasy owners from a variety of sports have a chance to draft some of their favor-ite players and compete against other owners within a league for the coveted fantasy title.

Fantasy sports draft work in a variety of ways, with drafts being the most important part. The two most popular formats for drafting are known as snake drafts and auction drafts. Snake works in a way where all players get an equal amount of picks that go in a serpentine style. Auction drafts are different because they give owners an imaginary amount of money (usually $200.00) where they then bid on different players throughout the draft. The higher the draft value of the player, the higher the bid usually goes for.

Fantasy baseball season, the current season which is underway is one of WKHPRVWSRSXODUQH[WWRIDQWDV\IRRWEDOO)DQWDV\EDVHEDOOUXQVIURPWKHUVWday of the regular season to the last day, which is usually about twenty weeks. Many friends partake in private fantasy drafts and play for money which

makes the league much more interesting and intense.Owners of fantasy teams tend to pick players on various tendencies. There

are some owners that will pick players solely on what team they play for. For example, an owner who is a Red Sox fan would be more likely to draft players from the actual Red Sox roster. Other owners will study players more than a QDOH[DPLQFROOHJHDQGPDNHGHFLVLRQVEDVHGRQWKHLUVWXGLHV

One player from a personal league I partake in explains his personal draft-ing strategy by arguing Not all players will perform as good or as bad as they did last year. He continues to say that You have to take into consideration if they were traded, what league or division they are now in, or even who they are now teammates with along with how old that person is.

Some fantasy leagues also offer teams and owners to keep previous players they believe outperform others, but this strategy can be risky because keeping a player on your team from the previous year means that you also lose a pick in the following years draft.

Fantasy sports have always been both a friendly and complicated way for people to live out their dream of managing their own sports team. They offer various outlets for people to learn about different players are show off their own skills in managing their own team, although everything can hinder solely on how a certain player performs. Fantasy sports will continue to be a risky and fun way for people around the world to compete with one another.

The Final Four is set for this coming weekend in Indianapolis, and is looking like one of the best Final Fours in recent memory.

Three No. 1 seeds (Kentucky, Wisconsin and Duke) and No. 7 seed Michigan State will all be in action at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.

The No. 1 overall seed, Kentucky, has managed to stay unbeaten at 38-0 throughout the tourna-ment, even after surviving a scare from No. 3 seed Notre Dame, and walking out with a 68-66 victory. The Cats will take on fellow No. 1 seed Wisconsin, from the west region, in the second game of Satur-day nights doubleheader.

Wisconsin defeated No. 2 seed in the west, Ari-]RQDRQ6DWXUGD\EHKLQGSRLQWVDQGYHrebounds from Sam Dekker. Dekker has been on a tear throughout the tournament, especially in the ZHVWUHJLRQDOQDO'HNNHUDYHUDJHGSRLQWVSHUgame in two games against North Carolina and Ari-zona.

The matchup of Kentucky and Wisconsin is a rematch of last years Final Four, a game in which Kentucky defeated the Badgers 74-73. Aaron Har-

rison hit a deep three from NBA range with 5.7 sec-onds left.

It is a very intriguing matchup, with the na-WLRQVPRVW HIFLHQW RIIHQVH LQ:LVFRQVLQ DJDLQVWthe nations No. 1 defense in Kentucky.

Tom Izzo, who will be coaching in his seventh Final Four matchup, led his Spartans to a 76-70 vic-tory over Rick Pitinos Louisville Cardinals. Coach K, who is coaching in his 12th Final Four, holds a career mark of 8-1 when coaching against Tom Izzo.

Duke defeated the No. 2 team in their region, Gonzaga, in the Elite Eight to reach the programs 16th all-time Final Four appearance.

Justise Winslow, a native of Houston, was one of four Blue Devils to reach the double-digit scor-ing mark. Jahlil Okafor was the only starter to not reach double-digits (nine points) and the bench did not score a single point.

The two schools played in the Champions Clas-sic earlier this season and Duke came out on top with a 81-71 win. Michigan State made three more VKRWVIURPWKHRRUEXW'XNHPDGHWKHLUPRQH\DWthe charity stripe. Duke was 20-26 and Michigan State was only 6-10.

Up until recently many of the weights were donated from funds raised by Coach Fisher with help from a number of former student-athletes.

Over the last several weeks the weight room in the Rogers Gymnasium has undergone a major transformation and remodeling phase.

A number of current LHU student-athletes, coaches, administrators, staff and faculty, as well as alums, trustees and local community members joined LHU President Michael Fiorentino in thanking Mr. Berkebile and the LHUs Student Auxillary Services (SAS).
