Humane Education Program in 32 Schools

The Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society is current ly implementing Humane Education programs in 32 schools with over 18,000 children. LAWCS believes that all change for the better

begins with education. If we are to truly make a real difference for animals and their

communit ies, we must begin by equipping the younger generation with knowledge about KINDNESS, RESPECT and COMPASSION to animals and people.

Children-Animals Interaction Program

LAWCS runs a program called Children-Animals Interaction Program. The program introduces children to the amazing characterist ics of animals by allowing the children to interact with their

family animals. The children learn the behaviors of animals and how they can safely and humanely interact with animals. By interacting with their family animals, the children also learn

that animals are just like us, they feel pain, hunger and thirst , need clean and comfortable

shelter, balanced diets, love and affection, and veterinary care when they are sick or need vaccines.

Animal Kind International`s Director, Karen Menczer Visit to Liberia

AKI supports LAWCS animal protection work in Liberia. In March, 2017, Karen Menczer, Director

of AKI visited us and part icipated in one of our outreach community education and animal health clinic programs.

LAWCS Free Outreach Animal Health Clinic

For the past three months, LAWCS conducted 5 animal clinics and treated 356 dogs and 55

cats. The clinics target poor communit ies in rural Lofa County and offer free veterinary services

such as de-worming, mange treatment, sores treatment, flea/t ick prevention and treatment and free nutrit ional diets for dogs and cats. Basic animal welfare education is also offered

during the clinics. 1,056 pet owners were reached with the education program. These services have filled a much needed gap among local communit ies in Lofa County who lack access

and resources to provide the requisite health care for their animals. There is however greater

demand for such services than LAWCS has been able to meet. Each clinic cost USD 70 for medications and nutrit ional food for the dogs and cats.

LAWCS Radio Program

For the past three months, we have been

conducting a weekly radio program reaching the larger society about kindness, respect, love and

compassion to animals and people. The program is

conducted in English and the local languages in Lofa County. We spend USD 50 monthly to run the

program with one radio stat ion.
