Great Ways to Celebrate Easter and Spring with Kids!!(StatePoint) The onset of spring brings with it more than mild weather, it’s the season for Easter celebrations, spring cleaning and renewal. Remember all those favorite Easter traditions you had as a kid? It’s time to keep them alive with your family and to start new ones.!!There are many ways your family can make spring and Easter fun and even educa-tional:!Egg-stra Special Fun!After a long winter, a good old-fashioned Easter egg hunt is a great way to usher in spring, giving children an opportunity to spend time outdoors with friends and fami-ly.Before heading outside, let kids get creative and craft their own unique bags to fill with treasure. Decorate eggs by dyeing them and adding your own special designs. Invite friends and neighbors to join in the fun!!!Easter Basket Ideas! You can help avoid those sugar highs by sprinkling in just a few sweet treats and fill-ing kids’ baskets with fun, educational alternatives, instead. Consider a kid-friendly tablet, such as VTech’s InnoTab 3S and additional fun, age-appropriate software car-tridges that allow a child to progressively learn key subjects such as math, reading and science in steady stages.  With all their favorite characters from Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, Jake & the Neverland Pirates and more, they’ll have so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning! Or opt for action toys that can promote motor skill development, like VTech’s new Switch & Go Dinos Turbo and Go! Go! Smart Wheels electronic vehicles. Learning toys and books can make your kids’ gift baskets even more special and long-lasting. More ideas for Easter basket alternatives can be found at www.VTechKids.com.!!Take a Spring Hike! After a long winter most kids have cabin fever, along with their parents! Take advan-tage of the season to head out for fresh air. Take a nature hike at a nearby park or even in your own backyard, if your children are too little for longer treks. Prepare in ad-vance by learning about trees and plants together by reading a library book or surfing age-appropriate sites online. Then have kids identify local greenery along your route. And collect a few rocks or flowers to bring home as keepsakes.!!Out With the Old!Make spring cleaning a fun family affair by giving children a bin to fill. Whoever fills the bin with the most stuff or the quickest gets to pick a family treat like eating at their favorite restaurant or a movie. Teach kids the rewards of giving by donating gently used items to a local charity. One perk of cleaning and donating is it makes room for new things. And you can breathe new life into old toys by purchasing new accessories for dolls and action figures, or new software for electronic games. For example, a range of educational cartridges are available for VTech’s InnoTab, including such kid-favorites as Monster’s University which in-cludes nine games, an e-book and more. !“Spring is a great time for parents to take a fresh approach to learning, incorporating themes of nature and renewal into children's toys and activities,” says Dr. Lise Eliot, early childhood development expert who consults for VTech, a leader in age-appropriate and developmental stage-based electronic learn-ing products for kids.!!Spring is a season for fresh air and renewal, so renew your family’s minds and spirit along with your home. Ways to Save on Spring Travel Costs!Families eager to enjoy some fun in the sun are turning their attention to spring getaways. According to a recent Bank of America survey, nearly half of Americans say the most difficult part of planning a trip is sticking to a budget.!!But don’t go over budget or put your dream vacation on the back burner without exploring alternative methods for funding your journey, says travel expert and Travel Channel host, Samantha Brown.!!“When you start researching vacation destinations, it’s impor-tant to keep in mind that a credit card with a good rewards pro-gram can help offset travel costs,” says Brown.!!For example, the BankAmericard Travel Rewards credit card offers 1.5 points for every dollar spent that can be used to pay for flights, hotels, vacation packages, cruises, rental cars, bag-gage fees, theme park tickets and travel upgrades.!!According to the same survey, 77 percent of American families will use credit cards for vacation planning and shopping this spring. If you’re among them, let your spending help you offset your costs.!!

Liberty American Legion Post 81 13 March 2014

A meal of hot dogs with all the fixin’s was served to all present. This is what I called Youth Night, with Scouts and our Oratorical Contestant at the meeting. March is also the American Legion’s 95th Birthday. There were about 30 Legionnaires and Auxiliary members and a room full of Scouts and parents. ! The meeting was opened by Commander Ritchie York, prayer by Henry Galary, and Ronnie Hill did the POW/MIA Ceremony. Commander York led the pledge of allegiance and saluting the colors. We had no meeting in February because of the snow and ice, and did not read the minutes for the January meeting because of time! We had invited Taylor Coble to come and share her speech but she shared her thoughts about the American Legion and the respect she has for the organization, and the Legionnaires she has met. She was very inspiring and also is a member of the Auxiliary Unit 81. The Post presented her a Certificate of Appreciation and a check for her college fund. Adjutant McMas-ters read a card from Taylor thanking the Post for our help and friendship. The Troop and Pack 502 were with us to celebrate Scout month and get to know Post 81 members. PDC Cary Mc-Masters thanked the leadership in the Troop and Pack for doing an outstanding job in the community. He also asked the Troop to submit Scouts for The American Legion High Adventure Awards and the Eagle Scout of the Year Award and Scholarship. Pres King is the new and up-coming Scoutmaster. Commander York covered some of the events that need our attention: Baseball Hall of Fame Banquet in Apex, Brunswick Stew Sale, and the Post Golf tournament in May. The Liberty Vet-erans Memorial and Gardens has a tournament in April and we need your support. The Liberty Chamber of Commerce Banquet is on 22 March 2014 and everyone is invited. Adjutant McMasters reported that we were about 30+ members behind on membership this year. He also stated that he had sent letters to all that had not paid. He has received a few memberships but it would be nice if we got them all. The Post has talked about several differ-ent fundraisers but they are still in the planning stage. Adjutant McMasters read a letter from Grady Lawson about our donation to the Eastern Randolph Post 81 Baseball team. Earl Morin made a motion that we give $1000.00 to the Baseball program after we have the Stew sale. The motion was seconded by Joe King ……………..Motion Carried. It is also time to consider two students for the Tar Heels Boy’s State Program which cost the Post about $700.00 for 2 Boys. !
