June 2015 Volume 9, Issue8 We're in the home stretch of this school year, as hard to believe as that is! We're immersed in state testing and transitioning in our new 6th graders while we prepare our 8th graders for their Freshman year of high school. Hayes Freedom and Camas High Schools are receiving a bright, quirky group of 8th graders that we will dearly miss! They're currently in the midst of their culminating project, Constitutional Issue Debates, which will prepare them well for their Senior Projects. Our administrative team has visited all current 5th graders to share information about Liberty and answer questions, and we held two parent meetings last week. We have provided links to video of those sessions here for those unable to attend. On Tuesday we welcomed those students to an orientation at Liberty, including more Q & A time, a tour, and an assembly with our incoming Lions from Lacamas Heights, Woodburn, and Helen Baller. Our final celebrations of the year include our 9th annual Paw Party on Monday, June 15 and our Awards and Talent Show on Tuesday, June 16. The Paw Party includes our rental of the Liberty Theater (for 8th graders) and the Camas Pool (for all). Parents are welcome to attend either or both of these events, and in fact we could use as much help as we can get for the Paw Party! It has been an amazing year for Liberty, with national, state, and local awards. Our passionate and talented staff and your scholars make this possible. Thanks for sharing them with us! The Dean’s Corner We are coming up on our very last month of school for the 2014-15 school year.

Many parents are looking for opportunities to continue their child’s learning beyond the last bell on June 16th, as their students begin to settle in to their summer routines. Three great avenues exist (as well as many others) as opportunities for our learners to continue their progress academically over the summer. One is our Camas Community Education programming that is run through the Camas School District. The Community Ed website (http://schools.camas.wednet.edu/communityed/) details camps and classes that can keep your child involved throughout the summer months. Another great activity is the summer reading program put on through the Camas Public Library. Information about this program can be found on their website (http://www.ci.camas.wa.us/index.php/camaspubliclibrary) or at the library itself. Lastly, another great option is online learning.  Educational websites (such as www.khanacademy.com) have become invaluable in their curriculum and support, while also being engaging for our digital native students. Overall, we have had a tremendous year here at Liberty, and our hope is that each of our learners will continue to explore and challenge themselves throughout the summer.

Enjoy the sunshine, and Go Lions!

Summer Time Collections

Thanks for a great school year Liberty Lions! We earned $387 this school year from the Box Tops for Education™ program. You can still help our school by collecting Box Tops this summer. For a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Clip the Box Tops, keep them in a safe place, and turn them in next school year. We will be having a Grade vs. Grade competition for the 2015/2016 school year. The winning grade will earn a pizza party at the end of the year, so start collecting now and get a head start. Remember to put your student name and grade on the envelope/baggie to get credit for the competition. Only non-expired Box Tops will count. Have a great break!
